Gas vs Electric

It mentions several times in the description that this is for GAS trimmers, will it work OK on an electric? What's the difference?
Asked by: coonster
In general, electric models I have had have a spool that fits into a cup or rotating drum housing. Gas heads are fit tight up against the debris shield or transmission. That's problem one. Next, you would have to find someone witha set of nuts and remove the electric spool and try the reverse head treads. IF, IF, the nut fit, you could THEORETICALLY cut off the drum and use this head. You might be able to make an adapter spacer but that means the debris shield might be too high and not cut off any string you just installed. The answer is mostly likely, "No or impractical." I tested my Toro electric 1400 12" trimmer and it won't work on it. None of the nut set fit. Gas trimmer are really high powered and throw a lot of debris. They have small shields. Electric trimmer are less powerful, have larger shields, and usually don't throw large amounts of debris at high speeds onto you. For thick shafted or tough weeds, a gas trimmer is a must have. Will the PivoTrim X4 trimmer head accept larger than .095 line and is it made out of plastic or metal?

I'm looking for a trimmer head that will accept larger line, such as 1.30 and/or 1.55 because I have to trim several acres of land. For the same reason, I'd like a metal head that will last longer than plastic. Thanks!
Asked by: SoCalDad
The pivotrim is set up to use .095 line. The holes could possibly be drilled out to accept larger line, but that will probably increase the wear on the trimmer you're using, as well as the pivotrim head because of the additional weight of the thicker line. The pivotrim head is a combination of metal and plastic. I'm using a pivotrim head that's 7 or 8 years old, and it's still working. I use the trimmer about 1.5 hours per week during the growing season. I'm edging concrete sidewalks, alley, street, patio, and around both wooden privacy fence and metal fencing. Don't worry about this head wearing out quickly. It will last a very long time.

I have an old trimmer head like this, different brand. Works great, wearing out. Looked at reviews, etc, and want to know if this fits an Echo SRM-225 and do I need to buy a bolt, or does this come with an appropriate one [HD specs does NOT include compatible models, and just saying 'ECHO' is not a compatibility definition] ?
Asked by: Powerhead
The Pivotrim X4 is compatible with the Echo SRM-225 trimmer. All the hardware needed is in the package. Please give our Customer Support Team a call if installation assistance is needed.

The bolts in this "UNIVERSAL" product don't fit in my Ryobi, a brand listed as being compatible. An hour at Home Depot with the person in the tool rental area (they know this stuff because they repair it) resulted in the person there being stumped. No other bolt would work, and it eventually became apparent there's reverse threading on my Ryobi but no bolt in this "UNIVERSAL" kit will work. The owner's manual doesn't show this part of the trimmer whatsoever, and neither do replacement part sites. I'd love for this to work because my trimmer constantly gets jammed and is nearly unusable, but this doesn't seem to be the fix for it.

It came with directions and all the nuts and bolts to fit any weed eater. After assembly, I tested it. It worked great. The strings that came with it did not break the entire time (approx. an hour). I would highly recommend this product. It certainly beats having to change out the string in most weed eaters. Or not having the string release like it's suppose to.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Trimmer Add-on Ever! I don't usually write product reviews, but after using the Pivot Trim on my Ryoby 10 Amp electric trimmer, I'm really impressed with the product. Prior to replacing the standard string trimmer that comes with the Ryobi, I had to constantly change the nylon string literally ever few minutes because it would break on the sidewalk slab or hollow tile walls. Now, I can trim my yard 3 to 4 times before I have to change the string on the Pivot Trim. I would highly recommend this to anyone and actually would suggest that Ryobi replace their standard string head with a Pivot Trim as a standard part of their product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Installation on my Weedeater straight shaft was a snap, easier than I feared considering all the extra parts that came along with the product. I was tired of consistently jammed lines. I have just used the product for the first time on a big job - I had let my backyard "go" because my Weedeater was impossible to work with its jamming problem. No problem now. I used up about 25% of each of the two lines, so I've easily got enough for a second go-around before changing lines. Considering how rediculously easy it is to replace them and the low cost, I wouldn't mind if I had to change them each time....I can finally use my trimmer again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutetly Fantastic Performance I picked up one of these RinoTuff Pivotrim heads at my local home depot store. I thought the design looked interesting the way the lines can swing around. But , I never thought I would trim my whole yard with one set of lines! I've got a lot of fencing and I am constantly fighting with my trimmer head because the line breaks off all the time. With this PivoTrim head I can get right up next to my fence and the line doesn't break. It's really easy to load the lines on, but who cares if you don't have to change it much anyway! Anyone whose got a gas trimmer needs one of these things!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Time Saver & Fits Ryobi Electric 10 AMP Power Head/Curved Trimmer The title sums it up. Finally, Ryobi makes a corded electric trimmer that can be fitted with the Pivotrim. I assume the reason the Pivotrim can't be used with most electric trimmers is because the motors are at the bottom of the electric trimmers and the spool heads are proprietary designed whilst the gas trimmer ends are more universal? Who knows. Anyway, I have about 150 feet of chain link fence and I've trimmed it about 2 times and so far, no broken strings. WOW! Previously with my other trimmer, I stopped about every 2 feet and spent over an hour just trying to feed the line correctly - no fun. Now it's a quick 5 minutes to trim and maybe another 10 to deal with the cord. I'm liking it so far and hopefully years of "trimmer's frustration" will melt away. Actually, this has totally changed my life, I used to dread trimming but now it's fun and almost too EZ! And what will I do with all these extra hours of freedom....
