Will the PivoTrim X4 trimmer head accept larger than .095 line and is it made out of plastic or metal?

I'm looking for a trimmer head that will accept larger line, such as 1.30 and/or 1.55 because I have to trim several acres of land.

For the same reason, I'd like a metal head that will last longer than plastic.

Thanks!

Answer:
The pivotrim is set up to use .095 line. The holes could possibly be drilled out to accept larger line, but that will probably increase the wear on the trimmer you're using, as well as the pivotrim head because of the additional weight of the thicker line. The pivotrim head is a combination of metal and plastic. I'm using a pivotrim head that's 7 or 8 years old, and it's still working. I use the trimmer Read More

The pivotrim head is a combination of metal and plastic. I'm using a pivotrim head that's 7 or 8 years old, and it's still working. I use the trimmer about 1.5 hours per week during the growing season. I'm edging concrete sidewalks, alley, street, patio, and around both wooden privacy fence and metal fencing. Don't worry about this head wearing out quickly. It will last a very long time. Read Less

Answer:
This head doesn't hold bigger than .095 line. I think bigger lines can only be used on the big walk behind weed eater. I haven't seen any small engine that holds bigger line. I could be wrong.

The Pivotrim X4's packaging says it accepts .080 and .095 line. The Pivotrim Pro will accept .095 and .105 line, but as far as I know both models are plastic.

Answer:
I suppose you could drill the holes out to a larger size, but the added weight of thicker line might cause faster wear of other components such as the bushings on which the four little heads rotate.
The head is made of a sort of plastic. I think the moving parts are metal. It is very durable, and I would not be concerned about it wearing out since it doesn't touch anything in normal use.

Answer:
The head is not metal...it is hard fiberglass, but very durable. The holes that hold the line are perfect for a .095 line, and maybe the next size up, but no more. I use it for about an acre along tree lines, hedges, etc., works okay for that size.

Nope, I was also very disappointed. The built in spooler on the Ego 56v is not very good. This would've made it into a great trimmer.

Answer:
I don't know of any electric trimmers that allow you to change the head out. Most gas trimmers will let you unbolt the spinner head. Basically, if your trimmer end is just a bolt that the spinner head attaches to, this will fit

Hi coonster.
Thank you for your question.
The biggest issue of using this adapter with an electric trimmer is the weight. The adapter is too heavy for an electric unit. The gas trimmer is designed to carry the extra weight whereas the electric one is not.
Would the Pivotrim work on an electric trimmer? Yes it would, but it will not work for long because you will burn the motor out!

Use the gas trimmer and you will be a happier camper in the long run.
Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 180 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by good value but be careful about minimum power required In my case, the four strings demand more power than my weed eater xt 200 can muster so I decided to use only two strings which seems to work fine. It would have been helpful to know that information before hand but it is a better alternative than the "bump and dump" spools. Hoping it will last a lot longer September 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Outstanding Buy Exchanged this head with one of many I have for craftsman weedeater. I have 20 acres of which about 12 are maintained, so I put heavy use and tough conditions on the weedeating. I am getting unbelievable duration of the string and only have to change it very, very seldom. At the clearance price, I purchased 4 more just to have on hand in case they get discontinued. Have used one all summer long and it still works like the day I bought it. Great buy, especially for heavy duty use. September 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best trimmer head This is the second pivotrim head I have purchased. The first one is about 7 - 8 years old and still working. It's getting pretty worn out from use, so I bought a replacement. The little plastic pegs that have the holes for the trimmer line are getting loose in the head from years of use. I'll use it until it fails, then install the new head. I'll be good for several more years! September 27, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by It rattles Product rattles & knocks. I'm very disappointed. It does work, but doesn't seem to be a solid fit October 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great String does last long and a lot easier and quicker to change September 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very good product Works well for me. Timely shipping. Will recommend it to my friends. September 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great value and easy to install This thing is a no brainer when it comes to loading new trim line. It is so easy and quick. And you don't need to buy the line in the cut down pack, you can simply buy by the roll and cut it to length. Does a good job but will wear down fast when trimming along a hard surface such a sidewalk. September 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Would buy again The weedeater head arrived ahead of scheduled. Weedeater head was easy to stall. If you use all 4 lines it will boog down the engine. I just used 2 lines and it work great. September 27, 2016
