Will the PivoTrim X4 trimmer head accept larger than .095 line and is it made out of plastic or metal?

I'm looking for a trimmer head that will accept larger line, such as 1.30 and/or 1.55 because I have to trim several acres of land.

For the same reason, I'd like a metal head that will last longer than plastic.

Thanks!

Answer:
This head doesn't hold bigger than .095 line. I think bigger lines can only be used on the big walk behind weed eater. I haven't seen any small engine that holds bigger line. I could be wrong.

The Pivotrim X4's packaging says it accepts .080 and .095 line. The Pivotrim Pro will accept .095 and .105 line, but as far as I know both models are plastic.

Answer:
I suppose you could drill the holes out to a larger size, but the added weight of thicker line might cause faster wear of other components such as the bushings on which the four little heads rotate.
The head is made of a sort of plastic. I think the moving parts are metal. It is very durable, and I would not be concerned about it wearing out since it doesn't touch anything in normal use.

Answer:
The head is not metal...it is hard fiberglass, but very durable. The holes that hold the line are perfect for a .095 line, and maybe the next size up, but no more. I use it for about an acre along tree lines, hedges, etc., works okay for that size.

It mentions several times in the description that this is for GAS trimmers, will it work OK on an electric? What's the difference?

Answer:
I don't know of any electric trimmers that allow you to change the head out. Most gas trimmers will let you unbolt the spinner head. Basically, if your trimmer end is just a bolt that the spinner head attaches to, this will fit

Hi coonster.
Thank you for your question.
The biggest issue of using this adapter with an electric trimmer is the weight. The adapter is too heavy for an electric unit. The gas trimmer is designed to carry the extra weight whereas the electric one is not.
Would the Pivotrim work on an electric trimmer? Yes it would, but it will not work for long because you will burn the motor out!

Nope, I was also very disappointed. The built in spooler on the Ego 56v is not very good. This would've made it into a great trimmer.

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 165 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not worth it Super not impressed. I bought this from Home Depot's website on sale for $9 and I don't think it's worth even that. They suck for edging because they do not make nice straight cuts, so the edge is ugly and uneven. The strings break off incredibly easily. To verify this, I put just one of the four strings on and it lasted about 6 feet before both sides broke off. I have a very small yard and have to replace all 4 strings halfway through August 9, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Rino-Tuff Pivotrim X4 Trimner Head (DISAPPOINTED) After seeing the tv commercial then purchasing this product and experiencing the use of It, I read a few 4 & 5 star rated reviews about this product, but then I read a lot of 1 & 2 star reviews. I figured I would be able to get more Info from people that wrote 1 & 2 stars than the people that wrote 4 & 5 stars about this product. I figured that what I am about to write would't effect the people that wrote 4 & 5 stars because according to them they were satisfied with this product and I woudn't be able to convince them otherwise. This product is made in China (I believe) I don't have the package to check. The nuts & bolts are infurier quality, thanks to our government. Anyone having problems with the hardware should purchase quality hardware made in U.S.A or equivalent quality. I was happy that while cutting along a fence line that the string seemed to last longer than the bump & feed line on my Ryobi SS26 2 stroke (not 2 cycle) gas trimmer. However, since the lines In this kit comes with is 3" shorter than what can be used even with the protective shroud, I (as many other people) had to change the lines sooner than expected. I have a fence line of 60'X60'X120'X120' plus around the house and various trees to trim around. I was disappointed that I had to replace the lines before I was done. About 90%. What I notice was that even just trimming the weeds was that they were not being cut clean. A lot of them were frayed at the tops. I figured like other reviews stated, that the string pivots were pivoting from resistance not allowing the strings to cut the weeds clean. What I did was I purchased a bottle of Gorilla glue and glued all 4 swivel heads in place, waited 24 hours to set, then used my Heavy Duty Rino Tuff .095" thick line used with my bump feed, cut it to the length allowed with the protective shroud (3" longer than the kit came with) and as I expected it cuts like a charm. Now granted the lines won't last as long on the fence line, but I now have the cutting power I was expecting With all 4 heads loaded. like other people noticed the lack of maximum rpms as compared to the old 2 line bump & feed system. I removed 2 lines and the max rpms are a little higher, but with a little more throttle (rpms) it works fine with all 4 lines. If anyone has as gas trimmer then adgusting the fuel/air mixture screws for idle and full throttle is a must for optimum performance. With all this said, with just a couple of modifications, this system works as well I can hope for, therefore I recomend it. I hope this review will help anyone that wrote reviews rated 1 & 2, even 3 stars and anyone reading these reviews to decide weather or not to purchase this product. I rate this product 3 stars. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Doesnt fit. It says on the package that it fits a Toro straight shaft trimmer. It doesn't. None of the included bolts are right for it and it's not a bolt you can just find in the hardware isle. June 24, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Super Trimmer I bought this trimmer head to replace my bump feed head on my EGO 56volt cordless trimmer Easy string replacement and seems to last a long time. A great improvement !! June 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to use Simple to use, easy to install, string last longer. May 24, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great upgrade Inexpensive replacement of the original spool twine. Quick easy install. Simple to replace the twine. May 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Well worth it Great product. Easy to install on my straight shaft Bolens. Easy loading and string lasts longer than regular line because it is double threaded through a pin. I was using my tap and feed head on weed eater to remove grass and moss and leave only top soil. I had to keep feeding new string and deal with line breaking constantly. Got this attachment and finished entire front yard plus backyard, total of 900 sq ft and only had to reload two lines. I could have continued with only two lines, but four lines made it easier. Totally worth the money. March 24, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not very effective The spool uses too much string and it winds up costing you twice as much because of the string May 3, 2016
