Customer Questions & Answers

Gas vs Electric

It mentions several times in the description that this is for GAS trimmers, will it work OK on an electric? What's the difference?
Asked by: coonster
In general, electric models I have had have a spool that fits into a cup or rotating drum housing. Gas heads are fit tight up against the debris shield or transmission. That's problem one. Next, you would have to find someone witha set of nuts and remove the electric spool and try the reverse head treads. IF, IF, the nut fit, you could THEORETICALLY cut off the drum and use this head. You might be able to make an adapter spacer but that means the debris shield might be too high and not cut off any string you just installed. The answer is mostly likely, "No or impractical." I tested my Toro electric 1400 12" trimmer and it won't work on it. None of the nut set fit. Gas trimmer are really high powered and throw a lot of debris. They have small shields. Electric trimmer are less powerful, have larger shields, and usually don't throw large amounts of debris at high speeds onto you. For thick shafted or tough weeds, a gas trimmer is a must have. Will the PivoTrim X4 trimmer head accept larger than .095 line and is it made out of plastic or metal?

I'm looking for a trimmer head that will accept larger line, such as 1.30 and/or 1.55 because I have to trim several acres of land. For the same reason, I'd like a metal head that will last longer than plastic. Thanks!
Asked by: SoCalDad
The pivotrim is set up to use .095 line. The holes could possibly be drilled out to accept larger line, but that will probably increase the wear on the trimmer you're using, as well as the pivotrim head because of the additional weight of the thicker line. The pivotrim head is a combination of metal and plastic. I'm using a pivotrim head that's 7 or 8 years old, and it's still working. I use the trimmer about 1.5 hours per week during the growing season. I'm edging concrete sidewalks, alley, street, patio, and around both wooden privacy fence and metal fencing. Don't worry about this head wearing out quickly. It will last a very long time.

I have an old trimmer head like this, different brand. Works great, wearing out. Looked at reviews, etc, and want to know if this fits an Echo SRM-225 and do I need to buy a bolt, or does this come with an appropriate one [HD specs does NOT include compatible models, and just saying 'ECHO' is not a compatibility definition] ?
Asked by: Powerhead
The Pivotrim X4 is compatible with the Echo SRM-225 trimmer. All the hardware needed is in the package. Please give our Customer Support Team a call if installation assistance is needed.

Pivotrim X4 Trimmer Head is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 184.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must for any trimmer I bought one of these to put on my new Echo trimmer because I'd seen it advertised and was enticed at $20. I must say, I am very happy I bought this. The line holds up better than it does in a standard "bump" head because it pivots (it will still go fast if you bump it into a lot of not-grass stuff, like fencing or sidewalk), but the real benefit is that it's much easier/quicker to replace the line. The branded replacement line is ridiculously expensive though...save yourself some money and just buy the 250ft rolls for like $12 and cut it to length when you need it (12.5").

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As Advertised After seeing the commercial for this on TV ,I decided I would read the reviews .At H. D. and Amazon . Much to my surprise most are favorable . So I decided to pay the extra $1.50 and tax and bough it at H. D. ( I didn't feel like waiting for it to be shipped ) . It took less than 5 minutes to uninstall the old head ( weed thrasher ) and install the Pivotrim . I started my trimmer and it works great .My suggestion is that you buy replacement line in bulk and cut it your self . You can get over 250 feet for less than the cost of 12 precut .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product This is a great product. I'm on my second PIVOTRIM head. I actually have one that has only two lines, and I think Home Depot only offers the 4 line head, but no problem -- if you like the 4 lines, use them, but if you only want two lines, only load the head with two lines. I have used mine with the lowest Homelite curved-shaft trimmer for home trimming and edging, and it works SO MUCH BETTER than having to wind the lines, having the line get stuck in the spool and having to take it apart all the time to fix. When you're watching basketball, golf or whatever, precut a bunch of strips so that they're ready when you are. Put a nail or small hole punch in your pocket with some lines, start your trimmer and when the ones in the head wear down, use the nail or punch to pop out the used lines, put in the new ones and you're good to go again. Any problems, such as putting the head on for the first time -- just call the PIVOTRIM customer service line and ask for Monica.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Trimmer Head I purchased this trimmer head for my Poulan Pro 31cc straight shaft trimmer last summer. Unfortunately, I hardly had the opportunity to use it due to carb issues on my trimmer's motor. This year that has not been the case. I have an acre lot that half of it is surrounded by chain link fence. After growing tired of having to stop every 30 seconds to replace trimmer line due to breakage from the fencing, I was off to my local H.D. to find a replacement head and I came across this product. Purchased this head and returned home, read the instructions, and it went on with no snags. Very easy to install. Started my trimmer up and began to do the trimming. After doing my entire yard, the lines were worn, but very little. Then the carb issue began. Fast forward to this year. With the original lines that came with the package (same ones initially installed), I began my trimming once again. This head is simply awesome! I was able to trim around my entire fence line and still have half of the original line left from the initial install. I did notice that in very tall weeds/grass (a foot + high), they tend to wrap around the trimmer base and bogged the motor down. But that occured with the original trimmer head also. It is to be expected when cutting a swath through thick weeds. But if I take them down a bit before I get to ground level, they just go flying everywhere. I had also purchased at the same time a 271' spool of .095" trimmer line (added to this review) to make sure I wouldn't run out since I was skeptical of the trimmer head claims. This package of line should last a very long time. Also, this line cuts through the tall thick stuff easier. This saves wear and tear on the trimmer and saves fuel. I would definitely recommend this product to any who wishes to learn about it, and if they catch me using it, they can give it a go for themselves. With the other line on it, it makes my trimmer a beast! And reloading couldn't be easier. If you are tired of traditional spools and heads, then give this a go. I doubt you will be disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent, Excellent, Ecxellent Gas Trimmer Bolens, 31cc, curved shaft, 2 stroke. Forget about every single negative review you've read here. I've read them all, too. If someone brakes line or does whatever he does to make this product not work is hid bad. Let me start with my review. Product was advertised for straight shafts, I mounted it on curved shaft, using only two of the pivots, not four. The recommended similar spool for curved shaft, that is not available at HD, is only with two pivots and when I called the hotline they advised me to use this spool with only two lines. I did. To the product. I have half of an acre, chain-link fence, wooden fence, driveway, curb, lots of stones, lots of object like staircases, patio stilts, HVAC unit, etc. etc. I have not, I repeat I have not broken a SINGLE line. Even with the one that are coming with the set that are .85 I made it through the whole front and back yard. I got me the .95 for future supply. I was so happy, I trimmed neighbors front curb side, with same lines not a single change. By the way I still have left over, about 2". It's hard to believe what such a simple product can make such a huge difference. I had to write this down so other folks can benefit from my experience. Product is worth every single penny.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not worth it Super not impressed. I bought this from Home Depot's website on sale for $9 and I don't think it's worth even that. They suck for edging because they do not make nice straight cuts, so the edge is ugly and uneven. The strings break off incredibly easily. To verify this, I put just one of the four strings on and it lasted about 6 feet before both sides broke off. I have a very small yard and have to replace all 4 strings halfway through

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Ok string trimmer--needed to modify to accept standard .095 and .105 strings Works as advertised with supplied strings. Strings last a long time. However, could not replace strings with pro-grade .095 or .105 widths. I ended up drilling out each of the holes to slightly widen. Now accepts standard .95 and .105 widths. So, recommended with modification.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Trimmer Head Ever We have tried every trimmer head there is and this "Pivotrim" is the best invention on the market. Just like the ads say we can trim around posts, walls, rocks and trees and the string just pivots around these and is not damaged. Here in the mountains the rocks are always cutting the string line on other trimmers, but the Pivotrim head just keeps on going without breaking the line. I told all the neighbors and my friends about this trimmer head because I was so impressed with it. I think that the guy who complains about the product in his review must be using the wrong weight line, .095" is the recommended size. You should try the product and you'ill agree with me about its quality. I bought three heads for my three trimmers at Home Depot and they will refund your money if you don't like it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow! I have a Ryobi stright shaft trimmer which i have been plagued with string line problems since I got it 2 years ago. My first attempt to fix the problem was to switch the head to a Ryobi Easy Reel head which initially worked fairly well. However, for the past 6-8months of use it has caused unending problems with the line not feeding and breakage of line. Last Saturday I spent 1 1/2 hours on a 20 minute job becuase I continually had to stop and take the haed apart to get more line. i then wtiched back to the original head which had the same problem. What luck to discover the Pivotrim head and thank God for the reviews. This head has solved my problem and has kept me from junking the trimmer. it works just like advertised. What a blessing! I 'm cutting alot of heavy weeds with this trimmer and the head functions flawlessly. You can't go wrong using it. As an aside, I had to call the company because I had problems with the installation and they were extremely helpful. Yes, you do talk to a real person, actually one of the developers. Buy this thing!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great concept, could be better... I recently purchased this product PivoTrim String Trimmer Head. I had high hopes for it. Installation went well and initial trimming went well. The "string" seems to be the weakest link in the chain here. I have a fair sized yard with plenty to trim around. I usually use a full spool of trimmer line each time I trim. I was hoping to get through the yard with one set of strings on this device. Didn't happen, I was shaking my head while loading my fourth set of strings to finish up. Made me think that the strings and refill strings had a prior life as dehydrated gummy bears. Next week, I'm going to try a commercial grade .95 line cut to lengths to fit. Like I said the concept good I despise "the spool" design. I use a gas powered straight shaft trimmer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You should Get One!!!! I love this....I bought it for my 69.99 homelite trimmer. It works so amazing!! Heres a tip, if you have a trimmer that doesnt have alot of power, only load 2 strings in. It works great, sounds really cool, my neihbors stop and ask me about it. You can even load better sharper string in it if you want.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesnt fit. It says on the package that it fits a Toro straight shaft trimmer. It doesn't. None of the included bolts are right for it and it's not a bolt you can just find in the hardware isle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent device especially for trimming around chain link fences and rocks. Best thing I have seen for trimming next to chain link fences. does not break the line, it just gets a little shorter as you go. can trim everything in my yard, about an acre including the chain link fence and use about 5' of line instead of 20' plus with a bump head that just keeps breaking off when near the chain link. Read the directions carefully to install and watch their you tube video to get it right.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than the others I have tried several trimmer heads, this one is the best. I don't know about the line lasting twenty times longer. but the line dosen't break like it does on other trimmer heads.Good product, well worth the price.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Rino-Tuff Pivotrim X4 Trimner Head (DISAPPOINTED) After seeing the tv commercial then purchasing this product and experiencing the use of It, I read a few 4 & 5 star rated reviews about this product, but then I read a lot of 1 & 2 star reviews. I figured I would be able to get more Info from people that wrote 1 & 2 stars than the people that wrote 4 & 5 stars about this product. I figured that what I am about to write would't effect the people that wrote 4 & 5 stars because according to them they were satisfied with this product and I woudn't be able to convince them otherwise. This product is made in China (I believe) I don't have the package to check. The nuts & bolts are infurier quality, thanks to our government. Anyone having problems with the hardware should purchase quality hardware made in U.S.A or equivalent quality. I was happy that while cutting along a fence line that the string seemed to last longer than the bump & feed line on my Ryobi SS26 2 stroke (not 2 cycle) gas trimmer. However, since the lines In this kit comes with is 3" shorter than what can be used even with the protective shroud, I (as many other people) had to change the lines sooner than expected. I have a fence line of 60'X60'X120'X120' plus around the house and various trees to trim around. I was disappointed that I had to replace the lines before I was done. About 90%. What I notice was that even just trimming the weeds was that they were not being cut clean. A lot of them were frayed at the tops. I figured like other reviews stated, that the string pivots were pivoting from resistance not allowing the strings to cut the weeds clean. What I did was I purchased a bottle of Gorilla glue and glued all 4 swivel heads in place, waited 24 hours to set, then used my Heavy Duty Rino Tuff .095" thick line used with my bump feed, cut it to the length allowed with the protective shroud (3" longer than the kit came with) and as I expected it cuts like a charm. Now granted the lines won't last as long on the fence line, but I now have the cutting power I was expecting With all 4 heads loaded. like other people noticed the lack of maximum rpms as compared to the old 2 line bump & feed system. I removed 2 lines and the max rpms are a little higher, but with a little more throttle (rpms) it works fine with all 4 lines. If anyone has as gas trimmer then adgusting the fuel/air mixture screws for idle and full throttle is a must for optimum performance. With all this said, with just a couple of modifications, this system works as well I can hope for, therefore I recomend it. I hope this review will help anyone that wrote reviews rated 1 & 2, even 3 stars and anyone reading these reviews to decide weather or not to purchase this product. I rate this product 3 stars. I havent had to change the line but once, and even then I just did it to see how easy it was going to be doing it. Its a great product. Saves me lots of time and headache.

REPLACED IT WITH PIVOTRIM X4 TRIMMER HEAD AND LOVED IT. I CAN TRIM MY YARD AT LEAST 2 OR 3 TIMES WITHOUT REPLACING THE STRING. JUST BOUGHT A NEW ONE BECAUSE THE OLDER ONE WAS WEARING OUT.

I was expecting something a lot more difficult but once i got it on, i weed wacked my entire yard (big one acre yard), without changing string! I had to change it at least twenty times with the previous head. Excellent tool to have...i would highly recommend it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ONE BUTT-KICKING TRIMMER HEAD!!!!! After becoming completely fed up with the breaking and failure to feed out trimmer line on my Homelite BC 800 stringer trimmer, I finally decided to spend the $20 and purchase the Pivo Trim trimmer head. Now I'm wishing I would have done it long ago and saved myself a lot of aggravation. This product is AWESOME and combined with the Home Depot SUPER FAST SHIPPING as it arrived in 2 business day after ordering makes it even more of a great purchase. The product is very well made and comes with very easy to read and follow installation instructions for about any make or model string trimmer. Installation took all of maybe 10 minutes and 5 of those were spent trying to figure out how to get the end shaft off my HomeLite trimmer. HINT: It has left-hand threads!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Pivo Trim to anyone that is as fed up with breaking line as I was. Money well spent!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from better than expected I was skeptical at first but was able to do my whole lawn without changing twine and it looks like there's enough fresh twine to do it all over again. Easily cut through fresh root shoots as well as general weedeating and trimming. I suppose in this case eight is better than two! Installed on a standard Ryobi gas weedeater.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superior to bump and feed Works as advertised. I recommend buying a spool of the thickest line you can fit into it rather than their precut lines, it lasts longer. I have a fenced acre lot with many trees and it trims it 3-4 times before needing to replace the line.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Buy Exchanged this head with one of many I have for craftsman weedeater. I have 20 acres of which about 12 are maintained, so I put heavy use and tough conditions on the weedeating. I am getting unbelievable duration of the string and only have to change it very, very seldom. At the clearance price, I purchased 4 more just to have on hand in case they get discontinued. Have used one all summer long and it still works like the day I bought it. Great buy, especially for heavy duty use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Product! I purchased this product because I got tired of replacing line on the old trimmer head. The old trimmer head/ line continued to break or wear on one trip around the house. At this point in replacing the old trimmer head it has outperformed my previous one as i have already used it twice around the house without having to remove and insert new line. It was easy to install and use. It takes about a second longer because the lines pivot when it meets resistance to prevent the line from wearing however it performed twice as good in respect to having to stop what your doing a replace line due to wearing or breaking. I would recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well worth it Great product. Easy to install on my straight shaft Bolens. Easy loading and string lasts longer than regular line because it is double threaded through a pin. I was using my tap and feed head on weed eater to remove grass and moss and leave only top soil. I had to keep feeding new string and deal with line breaking constantly. Got this attachment and finished entire front yard plus backyard, total of 900 sq ft and only had to reload two lines. I could have continued with only two lines, but four lines made it easier. Totally worth the money.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from very poor quality Does not perform as shown on the commercials of course I didnot really think that it would. But it performed way below what I think it should have, strings will not last pass 10-15 feet of trimming before having to replace them. Although they are easy to replace it could be preety expensive if you buy the precut lines. Would not recommend this to anyone. Very poor performance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from awesome product! this is the best string trimmer replacement head. held up to my whole 3/4 acre yard, where most times i quit after 1/4 of it because i am tired of broken trimmer lines. lines are shorter now but still usable for another trim! changing out the head on my ryobi was a 2 minute job!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best trimmer head This is the second pivotrim head I have purchased. The first one is about 7 - 8 years old and still working. It's getting pretty worn out from use, so I bought a replacement. The little plastic pegs that have the holes for the trimmer line are getting loose in the head from years of use. I'll use it until it fails, then install the new head. I'll be good for several more years!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I like it This is the second pivot head I bought. It works very well for me. The first one I had just happened to wear our from keeping it on the ground when I trim. I.e. Driveway or sidewalk. I always hated the bump and feed heads. They never work right and murder to reload. With this head you cut four pieces to about 8 inches and you're good to go. I try to cut a few ahead, just so that my stop time isn't too long. That being said this really is a great trimmer head. Easy to use and convenient.
