Will this work on a Ryobi 40 volt straight shaft trimmmer?

Asked by: Unkilmick
Although the package clearly says it will work on a 40V X, it WON'T. None the bolts fit the shaft of the trimmer.

Bolts are not all left handed but paper says they are.

Paper says all bolts are left handed, but the right size bolt for my Ryobi T430 is left handed. Called for help and was told that paper was a typo, try turning the bolt the other way. Explained not possible. Was told that number 5 bolt was the correct bolt, thus not compatible with my Ryobi. Talked to Ryobi salesman who said all Ryobi trimmers use left handed bolts. Typo?, wrong bolt? What is the story?
Asked by: Blue9
Well, the story from you is confusing. If the right size bolt for your Ryobi is left handed, and all the bolts are left handed, what is the problem? The correct answer is, some of the bolts are clockwise thread, and some are anti-clockwise. The Ryobi uses anti-clockwise, and there is a bolt in the package that fits. How do I know? I installed this on a Ryobi trimmer. And I'm Buzz, owner of a fully charged man card.

Will this work on my Weed Eater XT300. I read the instructions and can't see threads to accept the bolt. The spool is held by spring clip.

Asked by: Marcel
The package lists what will work. YOU have to use the right bolt or it will come apart or strip out the shaft. Very important to look closely at all the bolts. But there is one that is right one.

Home Depot. they had at the time 5 packages in stock all were re-taped over. obvious returned products, one would think if HD is re-taping them and putting them back on the shelves for customers to purchase all included hardware would be there. not so. no adapter cup, no metal washer, no plastic washer, I contacted the manufacturer thinking they'd try and keep a customer happy and send out a COMPLETE hardware package, not so, Rep said return it to HD for a different package, whats the point of this useless effort when all packages have been tampered with and are missing parts. Stupid idiots at Home Depot for putting out products with missing parts.

They are too short, not nearly the standard radius that the string cutter extends to. As a result it's difficult to get close to shrubbery and fences without also cutting them. However, on open spaces it does do a good job, not requiring the string changing. If the vegetation is too thick, then it does get wound around the center, and you have to stop the trimmer and manually unsnarl it. If it's a big piece of property, I have used it as "first pass" not getting close to objects or plants, and then changed back to the string head. However this is a pain. So if you have a Stihl, I'd advise not getting it.

The instructions are so unclear it seems like the person who wrote them had never installed this device. Instructions feature photos (in color!) but they are so absurdly tiny and lacking in detail that they're meaningless. None of the multiple bolts to attach this "universal" product are a perfect fit, and instructions give a dire warning not to install other bolts. I found one bolt that is very close and started using this after eventually assembling it, only to have the bolt (and trimmer head) fall off in about a minute of use. I've almost never had a weed trimer that didn't constantly have the string jam up and so I'm desperate for some alternative, but this doesn't seem to be it unless there's a secret that the manufacturer of this product is incapable of revealing.

The blades on this Trimmer are awesome and has much more life than the string-type. It is so easy to replace the blades that one would wonder why anyone would purchase the old string-type cartridge head. I purchased a string-type trimmer and never used the string-type cartridge head that was included. The only problem is that I have to replace this 3-Blade Head every 12-18 months because one of the heads stops locking the blade and it falls out immediately. The Trimmer Head is unbalanced with only two working blades, so the Head is thrown in the garbage and needs to be replaced. They really need to get this fixed, but the cost is so cheap, it's still worth buying, knowing that you have to throw it away after 12-18 months.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Um...aren't the blades the key feature? Had used this several times on some very thick "California grass" and immediately noticed that my Echo lost some power, also the blades just do not last very long. They're easy to replace, but they just don't last...I switched back to line because of the aforementioned. However, I am gonna give the steel bladed version a try. Now...what to do with the replacement blades I bought for this thing...I honestly expected this product to perform better, and maybe it would IF the blades lasted.

I use this product for thick grass especially St Augustine and for clearing long grass areas. The blades are much tougher than the string version trimmer heads and cut thru the grass with ease. I particularly like the simplicity of the blade replacement method when they do eventually break. Just press in the red lever and insert the new blade. The blades could be made a little stronger especially at the connection hole which is where most breakage occurs.

It eliminates the hassle of string trimmers (getting more string out) that never seem to work right. I finally had to replace my old push-n-load head after at least 10 years. There are multiple styles of plastic blades. This product uses the straight blade, but they also sell one with a rounded head. Those blades don't eject as well (not enough clearance), and I damaged the spring-loaded pin in my old head.
