Bought this turkey fryer to steam lobsters. my older burner which I used also only has a valve vice a controller to adjust the flame. Bottom line is I was able to steam 3 pots of lobsters to the one using my older burner. The 15 minute maximum timer is useless as far as I'm concerned, unfortunately you have to use the timer. Works fine once you get to temperature, problem is getting to the temperature...takes too long for my preference.

I bought this for Thanksgiving. I already had a burner but did not have a pot big enough for a turkey. Rather than buy a 42 quart pot alone for $79, I went with this unit which includes the burner and stand and 30 quart pot for $59. It did require minor assembly which takes about 30 minutes.
As expected for an aluminum pot, it is lightweight. However, the burner assembly and the stand are plenty heavy. The side supports provide extra security to prevent a catastrophic spill. One reviewer mentions that the burner would not stay lit. I bet good money he did not read the instructions. If he had, he would have realized there is a safety feature (a timer) that must be reset every 15 minutes or the flame WILL go out. While I was annoyed with this myself at first, I can see where this is a benefit to avoid leaving a burning pot of oil either during or after finished cooking. Since boiling or deep frying does not take hours (like smoking), it really should not be a problem.
The unit worked perfectly. For the price, it is an excellent buy. The size was perfect for a 7-8 pound turkey breast. Anything bigger than 10-12 pounds and you will need more than 3 gallons of oil and a bigger pot.

After being inundated with online recipes and reviews about fried turkey, I've been wanting to try to make one of my own for years. However, for what is essentially a once a year item I could never justify the high price of some of the other frying equipment on the market. Enter this option.
After a quick assembly (about 30 mins), we were ready to go. Fits most smaller sized turkeys,
Is this the best turkey fryer on the market? Absolutely not. Is it a good option for occasional/one time use? I think so.

For my first time cooking with fryer, I must say it turned out pretty good.
The 30-quart pot was large enough and being aluminum it was light weight and strong.
The base and burner have good weight and provides good stability.
The base also has support arms for holding the pot. Additional supports are on the feet as well.
Another nice feature is the gas cut-off after 15 minutes. It would be very dangerous to leave this unattended.
The box had all the parts including a nice cooking thermometer. The setup instruction where very clear.
I would recommend this fryer.

I have owned, and still own, other fryers. I rate this one as average for the value & quality of the fryer when compared to its price point. First off, frying foods can be dangerous and expensive. The oil can be costly and one does need to take the cost factor into consideration unless they are frying lots of foods or doing it often. As for the workmanship & quality of the product, it appears to be fine for the occasional user. This would not be my first pick for high-use applications but those generally are priced far higher than this fryer. The temperature control through flame adjustment can be tricky & time consuming.

Update from my previous review - I was contacted by the manufacturer directly and offered a do-over replacement unit. The unit arrived today, and all is well. I assembled the burner and it seemed to not only stand much better, but most importantly it stayed lit. Can't wait to cook another turkey for the Christmas Holiday!
To update the below responses, I think we just had a legitimate bad gas valve on the old one. Even with the timer set on the old unit, the only way it would stay lit was me holding down the gas flow button.
To echo some of the other posts, is the timer inconvenient, yes, but if it saves your home from burning, I suppose it's a very small price to pay.

i wouldn't even recommend this to a beginner. the timer causes the flame to shut off after 15 min, even if you bypass all the safety features the burner cant stand up to the heat. the pot is poorly made from low quality aluminum. i've tried various things to make this product work for me and even at its peak its still a waste of money.
