Nothing is needed to install the Premium Felt Cushion Underlayment, if you need to trim then a utility knife can be used. I hope this helps! If you should have any further questions please feel free to contact our Roberts Customer Service at (866) 435-8665. Thank you for choosing Roberts!

It provides a little insulation, but it's only 1/8" thick, so if the subfloor is very cold I would get something thicker. My floor is wood and has 10" of fiberglass insulation underneath, so this product is fine on top of that.

It doesn't have a heating element in it. However, it does have insulating properties which can make the floor feel warmer than using nothing at all. In fact, I used it in my own home, as we are on a slab foundation. It is also a better value than similar products offered by some of their competitors.

Slightly... It has some R value. But not enough to make a big difference. I installed it in my living room which is above my cold garage. The floor construction below is insulated and drywalled. But, if you have a similar condition without insulation I would start there.

No! all you should need is a vapor barrier as you get all the padding you need with the attached pad. I do agree with Roberts on this one. I installed the underlayment under the Hampton Bay Walnut Plateau with no attached pad. It has been down 1.5 years and does not have a loosened joint in over 800 square feet of flooring. My wife and I love it with the pad.

The pre-backed flooring does work fine alone. You're paying for the flooring, the backing and the less hassle installation. And this underlayment works fine with plain flooring, and slightly less expensive. You would just have to evaluate the worth of its convenience to you.
Unless of course, you already have both products. Then.... just do it. Less costly and convenient than returning, and most importantly, your finished project still turns out great.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Underlaymrent for laminate flooring Excellent products for wood laminate underlayment . May 10, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Worked great! Beautiful, silent bamboo floors as a result. Cutting and placing this felt was very easy. The underlayment was nice and even and very easy to install (especially compared to removing and replacing sub-floor). We did click-lock bamboo over top and you cant hear it at all with this stuff underneath, worked like a charm. Adhering one section to the next was quick and easy. Overall no complaints. May 27, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by great combo price quality great price for a good thick pad. the delivery was split so i had to wait to install but product is excellent February 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Underlayment I purchased this online only underlayment for my half inch solid bamboo floating floor. The product cuts easily enough with a good pair of scissors. Lays down flat and the overlapping flap works well. The product works well at dampening floor noise and adsorbing shock from the treadmill. The free shipping to the house was fast and an added bonus. February 11, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product! Product was easy to install. Provides a sound barrier under the engineered hardwood flooring. January 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellnt product Installed under laminate click-lock type flooring. I have walked on many laminate floors and disliked the hollow sound. This doesn't really eliminate that hollow sound, but it does really cushion the "foot-feel". It also prevents that clicking, crunching sound I have heard under many laminate floors that used the cheapest closed cell micro-thin foam padding. That is a real bonus. It really makes a cheap flooring product sound much better. The vapor barrier is adequate and durable enough to walk on without marring. The cushioning is great. The sound dampening is good. I definitely prefer this product to the cheapest alternatives. It was worth the upgrade cost. August 18, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Material Great material to work with, great soundproofing and easy to lay January 2, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Terrible for Laminate! I put down 1000 sq feet of high quality laminate with this stuff and it all needs to go! Too much cushion for the joints and they are all sagging and coming apart when a 200 pound person walks on it. Never use a soft underlay for laminate floors, use a harder more solid one so you don't have to replace it like I do. October 28, 2015
