I am going to put wood over our kitchen ceramic tile, will this adhesive work on laying the wood on tile
Asked by: nativebornTexan
Thank you for your inquiry. No. Substrates recommended and warranted for R1407 are as follows: concrete (on and above grade), APA rated plywood and acoustic cork underlayment. For best results, There will need to be substrate preparation prior to the installation of the wood floors over a ceramic tile subfloor. .Also, Roberts 1407 is an acrylic urethane adhesive designed for the installation of engineered wood up to 1/2" thick and 5" wide and parquet wood flooring. Always confirm the type of adhesive recommended by the flooring manufacturer. For more information about R1407 and installation, contact technical services at 866-435-8665.

Can I use this on a engineered bamboo flooring 3/8 x 5-1/8" thick?

Asked by: SteveNs
Thank you for your inquiry. No. R1407 is only recommended for engineered wood up to 5" wide. Confirm with the Bamboo manufacturer, even though the bamboo is "engineered" some bamboo manufacturers will require a 100% solids adhesive to be used during a glue down installation. Roberts R1509 or R1535 moisture cure urethane adhesives are recommended for Bamboo floor installations. For more information, please contact technical services at 866-435-8665. Thank you for considering Roberts adhesives for your installation needs.

Does this product act as a vapor barrier?

If not, do you offer an engineered wood floor glue that does act as a vapor barrier? Is it necessary to install a vapor barrier over concrete when gluing an engineered wood floor?
Asked by: Joe
Thank you Joe for your inquiry. No. Roberts® 1407 does not perform as a moisture barrier. Roberts offers R1540 a solvent free 100% solids moisture cure urethane product that performs as a single application adhesive, moisture vapor barrier, sound reducer and crack suppressant for wood and bamboo flooring installations. It helps to protect against unforeseen moisture vapor emissions. Concrete moisture levels must not exceed 20 lbs. or 90% RH. It is required to perform moisture tests prior to the installation of wood flooring (engineered or solid) If moisture exists in the sub floor, moisture remediation is needed. If you have any further questions regarding our product please call our Customer Service (866) 435-8665. Thank you for your interest in our product.

I ordered two 4 gallon buckets of this adhesive for installing 1/2 inch, pre-finished hardwood flooring. One of the buckets was filled significantly less than the second. Approximately 3 gallons instead of 4. The time you have to work with this adhesive is shorter compared to other adhesives but it does the job if you work fast enough. Cleanup was easy and rubs off of pre-finished hardwood with your finger or with a wet cloth. Delivery to my home was 6 days later than the expected delivery date provided. The buckets are messy when you open them because there is a thin plastic cover over the adhesive that is submerged by some of the adhesive. You have to pull it out carefully as to not to drip all over. If you can wait a week or two for it to arrive it is worth it. At approximately half the price of many other 4 gallon options, I saved about $75.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Messy still easier than urethane Tried to install engineered hardwood flooring on concrete with this adhesive after running out of Bruce everbond, but gave up using it. Messy not dense, dries very quickly making it difficult to work consistently with 2 rows. At the end, bought urethane base and was a traumatic event. Would rather use this over urethane for sure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice low odor, easy to apply and cleanup I was expecting this to be a living nightmare to use versus nailing our bamboo flooring down. Quite the contrary. I'll do it again anytime. Low odor and easy cleanup.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Floor glue it worked really well and I was pleased with the great bond , but felt it is over priced!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Glue. I had to continue some hardwood flooring in Phoenix on a home we just purchased. The previous owner laid glued down hardwood. I needed about a bucket and a half of this stuff to do about 265 SF. It works well and it easy to use. Just a 1/8" trowel and slap the boards down. It does create a very quiet walking surface as opposed to having a vapor barrier or nailing it down (nailing was not an option, laid on a solid slab). It's a little pricey and doesn't go very far in dry climates (nature of living in the desert) but all in all a great glue.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to use and clean up Pros: +20 min open time +EASY to clean up +Easy to spread Cons: -4 gal = 150 sqft on 1/4x1/4x1/4" V-trowel (claim 185-220) -gets on EVERYTHING -VERY sticky In all, it was a good product that was easy to work with. The guy that claims only 50 sqft must have a different floor type and using a different trowel. I had 3/8" engineered and it it lasted about 150 sqft. Could be my technique, I'm no pro. TIP: cover all your tools in painters tape. THEY WILL GET STICKY. just peel tape off and you're 90% clean.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cleanup was six stars The product was great. I laid engineered hardwood using this glue. Used 3/8” trowel as recommended, I found I did not get the coverage the instructions indicated that I would get using this size trowel. I do blame myself for using too much of the glue. I found troweling ahead of the pieces you should only do a very small area. I also back buttered the wood. The glue seemed to setup a little too fast, reason for a small area. Which I felt was a good thing. This was the eight flooring job, but the first time I used glue. The wood was installed on concrete, little over 400 sq. ft. While it has only been four weeks, the floor looks great, no buckling, and no problems. The price wasn’t that bad. The store associate recommended this one over the other two glues in stock. Can you believe it this was the cheapest. Usually they recommend the most expensive one, being the best product or not. Cleanup, everyone’s concern was so easy I just couldn’t believe it. I was looking for six stars but could not find the button. Because the glue setup so fast I didn’t want to clean up while I was installing the wood. At first, I did but I found it wasn’t necessary. A damp cloth after I was finished installing the floor, and this was hours, the glue wiped right up. And with very little effort. Don’t get me wrong I wasn’t sloppy, I was neat and clean, but you always have that little mishap. The color and consistency was that of butterscotch pudding. I wanted to stop and have desert. The glue stayed where you put it, didn’t run nor was it hard to spread out. I gave the 'ease of installation' four stars only because it setup so fast. It was really easy to use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good flooring adhesive This is good adhesive for engineered hardwood floors. Work time is fairly short so we did one "row at a time". Work in time is about 20 minutes. Use a 1/4 "V" trowel as recommended, and applied over wood sub. This product is- very- sticky, but if you wipe it up from the top of the wood surface right away with a wet rag, it will come right off. But - If you wait until it dries, it will be tougher (we used goo-gone to get it off after it dried). That worked fine. We were able to get about 200 sq ft of coverage per this 4 gallon bucket, again, with the 1/4 inch "V' Trowel. Floor was walkable after drying overnight and looks great. No loose boards and good coverage.
