Product Overview

The Roberts 70-193 super felt premium underlayment is a 4 mm thick insulating underlayment made to reduce noise and help cushion flooring. Can this be used under the Allure Traffic Master flooring?

This question is from 360 sq. ft. Felt Cushion Underlayment Roll

I know this underlayment is for use under laminate or engineered wood, but I read a review by someone that had laid their Allure over "green" felt underlayment and loved it. Is this OK to do? I have slightly uneven levels of my present floor where I pulled up old vinyl but it left the backing in most places, but some places it is down to the subfloor (particle board). Also I want it to transition into an area that was previously carpeted (now only the subfloor particle board. Also, sound echos down to basement. Would this be OK to install under Allure?

Answer:
I'd try to get up as much of the old backing as possible before using this underlayment, it is slightly forgiving as my concrete was not perfectly level and it worked out fine. It is sound deadening in my case.

360 sq. ft. Felt Cushion Underlayment Roll is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 46.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Arrived in very poor condition but usable Rolled material was delivered in extremely poor condition with the light plastic covering torn open in several places and open to the rainy weather. Portions were wet but fortunately laying it out overnight inside allowed it to dry without damage or musty smell. Very disappointed with the poor packaging. Delivery time was outstanding. I haven't laid the material down as yet (still painting and preparing) but material seems to be exactly what I needed; sound absorbing and cushioned underlayment. First time I've been disappointed in any online order from Home Depot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprisingly good I bought this underlay for a large family room area (~500 sq.ft., 1st floor, full basement below) for a new hardwood floor, replacing carpet. What I was looking for: - Excellent sound absorbing ability - Above average customer ratings - Cost competitive I didn't want to consider a thick cork solution - one of the best options reported - and use of multiple layers of underlay is discouraged. This material is roughly equal to standard cork underlay and less expensive. It's been easy to work with in 100 sq.ft rolls - 360 sq.ft. rolls were even more cost effective and not difficult to wrangle. The material is like a dense blanket once down and felt very stable. I used a good scissors to cut, which was much faster and easier than a blade.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Luxury underlayment I've installed many laminate floors and have always used the foam based underlayment. This stuff is a dream to work with and totally cushions the floors for literally no sound. I had a tough time cutting at first with a blade so switched to a utility scissors instead which worked perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great product, great price This product was as good as any other felt underlayment I have used, but the price was much better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good/straight forward product for the price I purchased this product because I needed about 320 sq-ft of underlayment and it was just a little more than the amount I needed and cost less than buying 100 sf-ft roles. Plus it's larger so it's easier to cover the floor. It qualified for free shipping and came right to my door. Only problem was the outer plastic was ripped, most likely by the mail company. Fortunately there was no rain that day or it might have been ruined. So be careful when you order to be there when it's delivered. The material was easy to role out, the adhesive strip and overlap seam where convenient and I used clear packaging tape to seal together regions that I cut that didn't have the overlap or adhesive. One thing, I tried to cut the role with a box cutter style knife, but it didn't work well. I found that a good pair of regular hand scissors worked best and I didn't have any trouble from the metal material inside the role. Oh just be sure to put the role green/plastic side up, or look at the instructions which are printed on the opposite side of the cardboard label. That reminds me, don't throw out the cardboard label. Also common scenes sweep/vacuum the floor before putting out the underlayment, a small little rock can be dramatically felt through the material.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sound deadened What a difference the underpayment has made. The sound in the room where installed is 100 times deadened. Will definitely use this in the rest of the home

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrific underlayment This underlayment was well worth the extra money. It has added a bit of insulation for us - we have a tongue and groove subfloor in a very old house so it's a big deal in our house. Also in an old house, the floors are not level (and walls are not square) so this material was a bit more forgiving with the imperfections. It was super easy to work with - I had a child and a dog running around on it the whole time I was installing the floor and the moisture barrier withstood a beating. I'm not sure what issue others faced with it being easily torn, but I found it to be VERY strong and super easy to work with. I'll use this product in the future. Also, there is a flap of moisture barrier that attaches to an adhesive strip on the next row of laminate as you put it down. It is easy to do and VERY convenient to keep the material from sliding around during installation.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent underlayment - Good buy Overlap strips were key. Laid out rather easy - didn't really bunch up much. Quite sturdy to walk on.. read reviews of other products where it tore easily - this certainly does not. In fact, I wouldn't count it as a negative, but make sure you have a good angled razor blade with at least 7 or 8 extra blades. The underlayment has light metal threading that runs through the material. This obviously adds strength, but kills your razor blades when cutting to fit. I installed 300 sq/ft and used about every inch of this roll with nothing left over.
