On the top part of the boat where the deck part is the kids like to sit and it is aluminum and gets VERY hot so I want to carpet it. But I want to make sure to prep it right. I am not sure if I just sand it before applying the adhesive or if there is something else I need to do. Thanks for any advice.

I would consider making the carpet removable for easy replacement/cleaning however, if you choose to make it more permanent/installed, I would follow these steps:
Clean the aluminum surface with a de-greaser/cleaner solvent. Sand the surface with an aggressive sandpaper such as 60-80 grit & get the surface rough & ready for good adhesion of the glue. Since aluminum 'turns' easily when exposed to air, the sanding creates a physical "grip" for the glue and opens up the surface. A good indicator of an 'open' aluminum surface will be a shiny look to it. Clean the surface one more time with a cleaner solvent & allow it to dry. My final wipe down right before applying the glue is usually done with IPA (isopropyl alcohol) which is available at any drug store (rubbing alcohol). At this point, try not to introduce oils/contaminants or touch it with bare hands. Once the aluminum surface is opened up/sanded/cleaned, you should apply the glue soon (same day) otherwise, restart the same procedure. Read Less

Answer:
Thank you for your inquiry.
Boat manufacturers usually use contact cement. We are not confident that a water- based adhesive will hold up on a boat.
We would recommend to lightly sand the surface and clean with lacquer thinner.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great adhesive for rug binding material I wash Oriental rugs in my business and had two sides of the underneath rug binding strips came lose during the rug shampooing process. This adhesive was the quick & easy fix and easy to go to the Home Depot store and buy. June 29, 2016

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Does what it says it does Used as directed. Worked as promised. Unfortunately in today's world, that's the new bar of a positive product review. June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worked great. Easy to spread. Was easy to spread & worked great. Used on plywood with reral cheap carpet but it worked well & project turned out great. June 9, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good for Indoor/Outdoor carpet Used with some indoor /outdoor carpet and worked well.Let dry 24 hours or more before walking on carpet,we let sit a couple days and dried well. June 7, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Poor coverage I'd only recommend it because it seems to be all that Home Depot carries. It worked OK as an adhesive, but even for a small job (2 steps & 2 risers), one container was not enough. Coverage was about half the minimum listed on the container. Cleanup was not as easy as the label suggested, either, and not possible at all if the product got on the carpet I was installing. May 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worked well and happened to match the basic color of the carpet! Product performed as described and happened to match the color of carpet I was working with. May 17, 2016
