We had used the Black Jack previously for our bedroom. This was a update we did about two years ago. We didn't know we had chosen the best under lament possible! So when we decided to update our second bedroom, and extend our bedroom to new spaces, we had not hesitation to use Black Jack again. This stuff rocks the house. The only thing you want to be careful of, is I only put down one row of under lament at a time and then worked the flooring onto that section until the next row of flooring would cover the end of the under lament row. Then I would lay down the next row of under lament and continue with the flooring. This stuff does exactly what it says it does, it prevents moisture, and basically removes any sound and gives a good base for any flooring. The only thing you want to be careful of, is if you make adjustments to floor you have laid to snap it up, or tighten up the connections, use a flat block of wood and hit square on the wood. Otherwise if you hit too low, and graze the black jack, of course your going to scar it. A little scaring doesn't effect its ability to act as basically the best under lament around. Highly recommend. I'd drive the extra mile and pay the extra buck, for this stuff. It does what it says it will do. Straight up!

I rehab houses and I install a lot of laminate flooring. Lately I've been using Robert's Back Jack and I'm pleased with the ease of installation, the moisture protection and the soft feel under foot. From experience let me make this suggestion. Like most underlayment I've used this will not stand-up to unprotected foot traffic, it will snag and tear easily, so install one row at a time, apply your flooring, then install the next row, this will minimize it's exposure. Also, remove all staples and fully seat all screws and nails into the subfloor. Like most things proper preparation is the key to perfect results.

The product is great andas expected. Onlyproblem was it cost me $150 because the product was 4 days late in arriving and Home Depot only gave me $75 credit. Home Depot messed up the delivery and di not want to pay for the difference it cost me. That is not fair to me as a loyal customer..

Much better at sound absorption under laminate than the traditional underlayment. I wish we had known about this product much sooner, we would have used it under the rest of the flooring we already laid.

This underlayment was very easy to install and took very little manipulation to keep it in place while positioning it. It gives a great spongy feel to the floors and makes absolutely no noise at all!!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Handyman Great product, needs slight improvement
This is a sponge neoprene underlayment and appears to be very well made. It comes with a plastic flap on one edge and adhesive tape on the other. The flap and tape are great for situations where you need a vapor barrier (such as over concrete) but it's handy to have regardless to keep your seams tight. There are a couple down sides though:
1) It comes rolled up the wrong way so that when you unroll it the up side is facing down. A minor problem but a bit of a pain.
2) It does not unroll in a nice straight line but rather a slightly curved arc. Don't try to straighten it out or you'll create puckers and bumps. Just go with the flow and be sure to allow about 2" of material to bend up the wall so you can trim it later.
3) Some rolls have splices in the material. Instead of butt joining the splices they overlapped them. I had to cut out all their splices so i could butt them properly. Even their instructions say not to lap the joints!
4) The paper backing on the adhesive tape can be a little difficult to remove. It takes some patience to get an edge started so you can strip it off to expose the sticky tape.
Aside from the above, a great product that does what it's supposed to do.

It rolled out great and stayed in place. The additionally tape strip made it easy to keep the pieces in line and under my laminate flooring!
