Answer:
The underlayment has a 2-mil vapor barrier, which is suitable for most installations. However, if you are genuinely concerned about moisture on a raw concrete subfloor, I would recommend the 3-in-1 AirGuard or Premium underlayments, as they have a better vapor barrier in addition to the superior sound absorption and cushioning.

Answer:
The product instruction says its structure provides sufficient vapor barrier. Homedepot sales person also confirmed you do not need additional vapor barrier for this product. However, if your concrete subfloor tested with higher moisture level, I would probably add additional vapor barrier for extra protection.

Answer:
I would not use it. It tears way too easy. You will spend a lot of time repairing the tears or the vapor barrier will be useless.

Answer:
Depot Girl-
Black Jack Laminate and Engineered Wood Flooring Underlayment is moisture resistant. If used on or above grade concrete, there is no need for an additional vapor barrier. If below grade, I would recommend using the Roberts Moisture Barricade Underlayment as a vapor barrier. Hope this helps! Thank you for choosing Roberts!

Answer:
That depends on whether the subfloor is concrete or wood. If the planks are nailed into the subfloor, it would puncture the underlayment, which would render its moisture barrier pointless.

We are installing Traffic Master laminate on a plywood sub floor over a crawl space. The crawl space is insulated and has heavy plastic laid across the ground.

As long as the crawlspace was prepped by the plastic vapor barrier, then using this Black Jack underlayment over a plywood subfloor is fine.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 77 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product This underpayment was inexpensive, delivered promptly and early to install. No pops or noise under our new flooring like we used to have with old products August 3, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to Use Used this under our bamboo laminate floor and it worked great. Thick enough so it rarely tore and the adhesive strip worked perfectly as we adhered it little by little. Only thing that could be improved is if it was rolled the other way as you'll need to unroll the entire roll to use it. June 29, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works well The only complaint I have is this stuff is seemingly rolled up backwards. I would like to be able to set it on the floor and roll it across the room to the other side. Instead you have to roll it from underneath. March 29, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Value This product has great thickness-perfect for our application. It unrolled very easily, was incredibly easy to line up and seam together. What I liked the best was that it includes a VERY sticky strip to adhere the overlap material (the white plastic wrap part). So easy to cut with a box cutter-like butter-and so much quicker than using scissors. I liked it so much I put it in a second home when we installed a floating/click-and-lock bamboo flooring. The only 'negative' is you shouldn't wear shoes when installing or at least keep them off the already-installed areas while laying more down. The shoes, while on your knees and hands, can very easily put a tear in the material. We just patched up our spots w/duct tape and worked in our socks afterward. January 12, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by I am not rating this product becuase I never used it. I will be returning it. I used the 1/4inch cork underlayment instead for my Engineered Wood Fl I would recommend this product for a thicker flooring such a solid hardwood. March 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great underlayment! This underlayment was very easy to install and took very little manipulation to keep it in place while positioning it. It gives a great spongy feel to the floors and makes absolutely no noise at all!! November 1, 2011
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by this product appears to do the job that had to be done this product was installed under a Swisstrax garage floor to prevent the flooring pad from slipping when cars were driven in or out of the garage - it cannot be seen but appears to be doing the job - i will be very happy if it continues to prevent the floor tiles from slipping. September 4, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent underlayment It rolled out great and stayed in place. The additionally tape strip made it easy to keep the pieces in line and under my laminate flooring! October 9, 2012
