Customer Questions & Answers

this sander or the ryobi?

I am looking for a sander to shape small woodworking projects and put bevels on knives.
Asked by: goofy
Thank you for taking the time to ask additional questions on our product. I would not suggest this model for beveling of knives. This tool will provide a fine finishing edge. Thank you for your time and patience.

Is this any different than the Ryobi Sander that's $50 less?

Looks like different branding and a different color.
Asked by: Bart
No! Buy the Robbi. I'm going to get it to replace this one. Belt is garbage. Berrings made noise.

I want versatility but is it reasonable to think that I can use this to sharpen my tools rather than a bench grinder?

I don't want a low speed grinder that can only sharpen. And, I don't want a high speed that can't. I could spend more and get variable but if I'm going to spend more, why not get a belt/disc sander? That's my dilemma. I have a gift certificate that's burning a hole in my wallet! I wish they made a sander with a grinding wheel rather a disc pad. Do you think I could get high end emery cloyh types belts and discs? That may solve my problem.

Thank you for taking the time to ask additional questions on our product. We do not offer this type of cloth or disc however I researched the product and see that the belt length is 4" x 36" and the disc size if 6". This is the required size and if they can be found you can use this unit to perform the job. Thank you for your time and patience.

4.3 Amp 6 in. Disk 4 in. x 36 in. Belt Sander is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 34.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bench Belt Sander Very pleased with this item! Quieter than my last one and more powerful. Lighter than my old one.

It is heavy so you don't need to bolt it to a work table and does an excellent job sanding. The only issue that I've had with it is that the lock for the sanding disk table doesn't hold the best so it can change the angle on you if you push down too much.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works quite nicely The machine has only had limited use, but intense use, sanding slats for a small table top. Set up was simple and "Squaring up" the unit's fences was very easy. The set up only took a few minutes, and it was ready to go. Once placed into service, the included sanding belt and disk removed material very efficiently. An adaptor had to be sourced to mate the machine to the shop vacuum, but when all connected the dust collection worked well. The only "Con" on construction quality is the number of plastic parts that could have been metal. That being said, the plastic parts did not diminish the machine's abilities and the unit stayed in place while in use. So far, money well spent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far, so good. I bought this sander after much research, and so far I'm quite pleased. Anyone looking to purchase a combination benchtop sander will find a lot of bad reviews about machines in this price range. There is a reason the Rockwell sander takes top ratings and is frequently sold out on this website and others. It's a well made tool with plenty of power and a decent warranty for the price. I have been working my Rockwell sander pretty hard over the last two weeks, shaping dense exotic hardwoods. It plows right through them without even getting warm. The heavy cast iron base ensures the sander will not budge while you're working. The dust collection port hooks up to my shop vac perfectly and saves a lot of mess. As with all sanders in this class, some may find the disk table and mitering guide a little flimsy, but it should be sufficient for light hobby use. The belt tensioning mechanism- another concern among similar tools- seems to be sturdy and well designed. If this sander continues to perform as it has for the past couple weeks I'll have no complaints.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Rockwell 4" Belt, 6" Disc Work Bench Sander PROS: This unit is quite (too) heavy, and tends to stay in place rather well during aggressive use. Belt replacement and tweaking is very easy. The overall feel of the unit provides decent response when working with wood pieces. CONS: The overall construction of the unit feels low-end, but I am happy to own this unit rather than the comparable Ryobi unit. If you want an industrial or commercial grade unit, you will need to spend more money. This unit will tolerate low frequency use well, but will not stand up to heavy usage over time. The motor runs now, and I can only hope it will outlast my expectations. Also, the quality of the belt itself is questionable. Hopefully, a replacement belt, when needed, will be a little more structurally formidable. I recommended this unit for persons working with (small) wood projects, but little else. This unit will work for low or moderate usage which does not require precision. Overall, I am happy I bought this unit when looking at the other options in the same price range. Time will tell.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great little bench top sander Very easy to assemble. Works as advertised. Its a little annoying to change from 180 to 90 degrees because you need to loosen two screws with an allen wrench and then tighten them again to lock it in place, but as far as sanding capability it seems pretty solid. I haven't done a lot on it yet, but for the pieces I have sanded it has been extremely useful. The miter gauge is pretty average for a bench top unit, which is to say mediocre at best, but you can always replace it with a better gauge and I haven't seen anything in this price point with a better one. Overall, if you need to add a belt/disc sander to your shop and you're looking for a solid machine at a reasonable price, you've found it. Much better quality than the Ryobi that home depot has in their stores. Look around because you can find it for less, and home depot will price match.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Value This unit has a cast iron base so it doesn't need to be clamped down to use. Not as noisy as others I have used. Also priced this unit at two other stores and it was twice as much than at Home Depot!! Free shipping right to my door step. Very good value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Great Small Belt/Disc Sander This is a great little belt/disc sander if you don't have a lot of space or money. Though small, it is solidly built and heavy enough to not walk off a work table. I've worked with soft/hard wood making signs, cabinets, selves, etc. The sanding belts/discs are readily available in a # grits. BUT, let the tool do the work or you'll end up replacing the miter drive belt. The good news is that drive belts and pulleys are readily available on line. I highly recommend this model and have been very satisfied in my 5+ yrs. of pretty steady use.
