can this be run thru 3/4 EMT? It will be indoors, feeding a 50 amp welder plug

Asked by: rodc
You don't run jacketed cakes inside of conduit, wet or dry. Too much heat retention. Use THHN for dry conduit locations, and THWN for wet locations.

Hot Tube Wiring Question

Can I use this wire inside the house from the breaker box to the spa GFCI? This wire would exit the back of the house and connected to the GFCI breaker box hanging on the outside wall. From the GFCI to the Spa Pack what type of wire can be used between those 2 points? Same wire inside a whip? or something else?
Asked by: jhatmhat
YES! If the wire goes directly into the knockout in the back of the box. Most jurisdictions would not consider it leaving the envelope of the house and call it interior. Otherwise every light fixture and receptical on your outside walls would need to be spliced inside then run in uf or thwn. You cannot use this wire after the gfci in the spa box or anywhere "outside" including in conduit. The response from south wire is true only if you exit the house exposed then enter the box. I'm almost a year late in my response but hope to help somebody.

If to install NEMA 14-50 indoor which needs about 20' - 30' 6/3 wire, do I have to use conduit? (Ohio)
Asked by: gonghua
No. Conduit does not have to be used with NM-B when installed in residential applications. The above advice is based upon the current edition of the National Electric Code (NEC). Free access to the latest version of the NEC is available online at The NEC and local building codes regulate the types of wire and cable that can be used in specific electrical applications, as well as the manner of installation. Check your local building codes before you start any wiring and cable electrical project and be sure to obtain required permits. When your work is complete, always have it inspected for compliance with local codes to ensure that it has been safely installed.
