Answer:
It depends upon how much current is flowing through the wire. 10 AWG Type NM cable is rated for 20 Amps and is likely not large enough for your application. Also, Type NM-B cable is rated for dry locations only. This means it can only be used indoors. It cannot be installed outdoors, even in conduit. Check the generator rating plate for the amperage and per National Electrical Code (NEC) 445.13, multiply that number by 1.15 (for 115%) and use that number to determine the required ampacity for the wire. Insure that your installation complies with Article 445 of the NEC. The above advice is based upon the current edition of the National Electric Code (NEC). Free access to the latest version of the NEC is available online at www.nfpa.org/freeaccess. The NEC and local building codes regulate the types of wire and cable that can be used in specific electrical applications, as well as the manner of installation. Check your local building codes before you start any wiring and cable electrical project and be sure to obtain required permits. When your work is complete, always have it inspected for compliance with local codes to ensure that it has been safely installed. Read Less

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by 10/2 Romex with ground wire When you need 10/2 Romex with a ground wire, this works fine. June 11, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Price for Just the Amount Needed For me, wire is one of those things I hate to end up with a lot of extra sitting around for years. I like the ability to buy just what I needed for a reasonable price. I bought 80 feet for a little more than the cost of a 50 foot prepackaged roll. January 15, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This was a great deal & time saver 1st. I am a Licensed Electrican & this was all I needed, so by ordering on-line & having lead time of a week before needed. I saved lots of money overall, as time is money & gas to make a 3 hour round trip to pick up just one item. It was much cheaper to buy & ship then drive for it, at the nearest home depot or electrical supply house.. March 4, 2014
