Is this appropriate to connect a Reliance 30amp Generator Power Inlet Box to the main electrical panel?

I am looking to run this wire from main electrical panel in attached garage through indoor walls into basement to feed a Reliance 30amp Generator Power Inlet Box that will be attached to the exterior of the basement wall? If the outlet box is mounted on the immediate outside of the exterior wall of house from where it is receiving the wire through the exterior wall, does it still need conduit for those couple of inches where the wire runs through the exterior wall of house into outlet box?
Asked by: Squeakybeanz
The home depot response is wrong. This will work. There are three primary conductors (res, black, and white) as well as a ground. This will work fine for a four prong generator inlet. It does not need to be in conduit if it is in a dry location (check local codes though) but it may need to be fastened to something if the run is overna certain length. I used this for a generator inlet as well as an RV hookup with two 30A legs.

is 10 gauge the right wire to hook up a welder

I,am looking for the right gauge wire to hook up for my welder.
Asked by: Randy
Look at the data plate on your welder. It will tell you how many amps the machine puts out (welding heat) and it will tell you how many amps it draws from the outlet. The number of amps it draws from the outlet will dictate what size wire you will need. If your welder says 50 amps then you need 6/3. If it says 30 amps you can use 10/3. If you have a large distance between your breaker and your outlet then you're going to want to use a larger wire. Some older welders can take up to 103 amps but a lot of newer inverter type will only take 30 amps and put out 200 amps dc. That should be factored into your purchasing decision. All that wire starts to add up! The money u save buying an old used welder might be wasted buying lots of heavy wire and big breakers.

will this wire work to wire a hot tub that uses 220

Asked by: 1beginner
Depends on the amperage of your hot tub. Wire size is determined by the breaker that is in your panel that is powering your hot tube. You would need to find the amperage your hot tub takes. Get a breaker that can handle that load (general practice is to upsize it by 15% for continuous use). And then find the correct wire size for that breaker. You can probably look it up online for the wire size that corresponds to that breaker. Or you can look it up in a NEC book. Or you can do the smart thing and call an electrician and let him do it safely since you seem a little confused.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 50' 10/3 cable I am going to use this for a connection from a generator to my electrical panel when there is a power outage. It was recommended to me by an electrician who uses this type of cable for the same jobs he does for other people.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Exactly what I needed I used this to wire a power inlet box to a transfer switch. It is pretty thick so it was not the easiest stuff to work with particularly when going around corners but overall it is a good product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product, Good Value Bought this wire to complete a project hooking up my emergency generator to my home via a transfer switch. It was great that I was able to purchase it by the foot, only having to pay for what length I needed to do the hook up. Had no issues with the product at all. A bit on the expensive side, in my opinion, but still a better value than purchasing from an electrical supply company.
