i am running a 220 line to my garage. it is about 150ft from meter to garage is this wire big enough to run that far without losing power
Asked by: manson3210
Unfortunately this wire is too small to work for your application. We could recommend having 1 conductors per phase utilizing a #350 Copper conductor will limit the voltage drop to 2.85% or less when supplying 220.0 amps for 150 feet on a 120 volt system. The above advice is based upon the current edition of the National Electric Code (NEC). Free access to the latest version of the NEC is available online at www.nfpa.org/freeaccess. The NEC and local building codes regulate the types of wire and cable that can be used in specific electrical applications, as well as the manner of installation. Check your local building codes before you start any wiring and cable electrical project and be sure to obtain required permits. When your work is complete, always have it inspected for compliance with local codes to ensure that it has been safely installed.

Can this wire be used in PVC conduit buried underground outdoors?

Asked by: Alan
Hi Alan, Yes, you can use this 10 gauge NM wire inside conduit, as long as it is glued and installed properly. However, it usually is less money and time-consuming to purchase the same wire, but in burial-grade UF (underground feed) form. This type of wire doesn't require conduit when burying it, save for going up walls vertically and low hanging ceilings. I'd opt for this to save you time and money for your project. Joseph

Can this be used in conduit for partial outside install

I am going to use this for a solar install, about 100 foot of it will be run indoors, however the last 10 foot will be outdoors. Can that (outdoor) section of this wire be run in conduit for outdoor use or should I terminate before leaving to outdoors and just switch to individual 10 AWG THWN? Are the individual conductors already THWN?

I need to run a 220 line to my garage it is about 150 ft from meter to garage what size wire should I use?

Asked by: manson3210
Type NM-B Cable is allowed for dry locations (indoors) only. Type UF-B Cable can be used instead for circuits up to 50 Amps. Other products are available in larger sizes. You need to supply the current requirement in order to size the conductor properly. A 150’ run will likely need to be up-sized due to voltage drop. A voltage drop calculator is available at http://www.southwire.com/support/voltage-drop-calculator.htm .

will this wire work to wire a hot tub that uses 220

Asked by: 1beginner
In short, it depends. When you say "220" that is simply stating voltage. What is the accurate way to describe wiring your hot tub would be amperage. This particular wire can go up to 30 amps, but most hot tubs can go up to 50 amps, which is where #6 AWG wire. I really recommend you to check with the hot tub you intend to buy and read the specificiations, as well as consult a licensed electrician in your area for further codes to get the installation safely completed. what size of breaker and wire size do i need to hook up electric cooking stove and clothes dryer

Check with the appliance manufacturers for their recommendations. 10/3 Type NM-B cable is rated for 30 Amps and most likely your appliances will need much more current than 30 Amps. The above advice is based upon the current edition of the National Electric Code (NEC). Free access to the latest version of the NEC is available online at www.nfpa.org/freeaccess. Rated 5 out of 5 by from 50' 10/3 cable I am going to use this for a connection from a generator to my electrical panel when there is a power outage. It was recommended to me by an electrician who uses this type of cable for the same jobs he does for other people.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Exactly what I needed I used this to wire a power inlet box to a transfer switch. It is pretty thick so it was not the easiest stuff to work with particularly when going around corners but overall it is a good product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product, Good Value Bought this wire to complete a project hooking up my emergency generator to my home via a transfer switch. It was great that I was able to purchase it by the foot, only having to pay for what length I needed to do the hook up. Had no issues with the product at all. A bit on the expensive side, in my opinion, but still a better value than purchasing from an electrical supply company.
