How much time i need to cook a cornished Hen

Asked by: Sandra
It took mine about 40 minutes which was also the recommended time in the instruction manual.

Can I roast or bake a 12 pound turkey?

Asked by: Ruby
The instruction manual states up to a 15 lb. turkey. I haven't tried it, but based on my experience with cooking an 8 lb. prime rib, I think it would work great.

It is on the Home Depot website, but you add it to your cart for the price. $125.55 was what showed for me. There are different models at different prices. It is a really great product.

Customer Reviews

5500 Showtime Rotisserie Countertop Oven is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Huge Rotisserie I absolutely love this rotisserie! Not only is it good looking, but it is well made and will hold a nice large sized hen, 2 Cornish game hens, a roast or a duck. It has an included roasting rotisserie basket for steaks, chops and/or veggies. It even came with ties for whatever birds you are cooking and gloves. I am going to thoroughly enjoy making my whole chickens now and even ducks using this. I might even try cooking a smaller sized turkey in it as it looks big enough to hold one. Definitely get one!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Rotisserie Chicken! When the package arrived, I was a bit shocked on how big and heavy this appliance was! Then I was wondering as to where I should store it when not in use? It is much too bulky to stay on the countertop. I did find a spot for this huge thing, but I definitely had to rearrange some things in a cabinet to make space for it! This item can hold a large chicken or duck easily, as well as a couple of Cornish hens or some chicken quarters or even fish. Cooking was easy, but clean up was a chore ... but the results? Delicious! And healthy (far drips off into a tray)! Why spend $8 on store bought Rotisserie Chicken when you can make your own? I love that I can set it and forget it ... and do some meal preparation for other menu items. I used this for my mom's birthday dinner and cooked a large chicken in 1 1/2 hours. Got lots of compliments and my mom was pleasantly surprised that I can cook so well! As per other reviews, yes it is a bit noisy, but it's not a deal breaker for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great addition to the kitchen - but a little noisy This rotisserie is a replacement for an existing unit we have; the old one works just fine, it's just showing its age and really needs to be relegated to the pantry when not being used. The new one looks great and is nice enough to sit on the countertop when not being used (if you have the space). The rotation speed is faster than our old one, which I think may be partially to blame for the noise it makes. You're not going to want to try and watch TV or listen to the radio while this is running without turning up the volume a bit. That aside, this does its job and does it very well; we cooked a 4lb chicken in just over an hour and it came out perfect. The unit has a basket you can use for vegetables, burgers, or fish, although we've not tried that just yet. The spit is Teflon-coated, so sliding the chicken on - and more importantly, off - was really easy, and the included oven gloves make handling everything easy, too. It also has a no-heat rotation setting for use after cooking; it's supposed to keep the juices moving within the bird if you're doing other things and not ready to eat. Is that effective? The jury's still out on that one....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes better than store bought rotisserie food This is a great kitchen appliance. The rotisserie comes with a nonstick drip pan and grate cover, nonstick spit rods, a nonstick rotisserie basket for cooking smaller pieces of food such as burgers, a small instruction/recipe book, oven gloves and food ties. Another nice accessory is a carving platform which is used to hold the spit rod assembly to enable you to remove the food from the spits or carve meats without removing it. There also is a silicone loop on the side to hold the door closed. The first items I cooked were chicken quarters and they were phenomenal! The fat drained off into the drip pan and the meat was so juicy and nicely browned my guests were really impressed! I was amazed at how much fat came off the chicken! This is a much healthier method of cooking. The outside of the oven does get hot, so please don't touch it right away. Cooking smaller items, such as veggies in the tray was a little bit of a challenge as small pieces fell out. I do wish the slots were a bit smaller, but I just learned to cut the pieces bigger. On the right side of the oven, near the timer, is a mini-instruction list for times for cooking, but on the stainless steel model it is almost impossible to see as it is almost the same color. I didn't even see it until I was cleaning the item after I used is. I would recommend darker print. When my oven arrived, the gloves and food ties were missing. I called the Ronco customer service line twice, with them taking my info but I received no response. I sent an email, which is the method I recommend for contact as within hours I received a reply and I am waiting for these items to be delivered. You really need to use the gloves as when removing cooked items from the oven, the metal is hot and the heat proof gloves will be a great protection. I look forward to cooking all sorts of meals with my "set it and forget it"!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good for large servings - A lot of cleaning Good for large servings, like 2 chickens and the sort, but for smaller servings, it's a lot of clean up afterwards for the portion cooked. It does the job. I started with a little game hen chicken - it did well. It's a set and go away oven which is convenient if you have other meals to prepare. Safety is a big deal if you forget to wear gloves as I came close to poking myself with the spits. Lastly, I took this outside of the kitchen because i don't have the kitchen counter space. Any risk of fire or smoke is outside. That said, it's a bit of a challenge when temperatures are getting down in the 40s. All in all, I would recommend if you into cooking for large settings and you need the set it and go away convenience.

The sound it makes was to noisy that we thought it would explode. We turned it off to check it. Everything was in its right place. The sound kept loud. We followed the instructions from the booklet about the time to cook the chicken, it didn't work either. It took 1 1/2 hours to get the chicken cook, so embarrassing. The product didn't meet my expectations. My friend has one but the older version. I bought the newest thinking it would be better but it wasn't. So I'm going to return it this weekend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This rotisserie works really well. This rotisserie works really well. It is a great way to cook healthier. The product itself is great! All the meats come out perfect. This is an awesome addition to the kitchen. It cooks GREAT food! Literally, set it and forget it. I used to buy rotisserie chicken at BJs and now I do my own . All have come out very moist and with a nice golden brown outside. This product does exactly what it says. Makes awesome rotisserie food, easy to use, and the pieces go together smoothly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great. I received the rotisserie to test for Home Depot and give it "two thumbs up"! I tried it for the first time to cook a 10 pound turkey on Christmas Day. Worked out great and saved me oven space where a had a rib roast. As per the instructions, cooking times may vary due to the circuit voltage. The turkey cooked a bit faster than I had planned but no real issue. Not that I know, I will be better equipped for the next one. All on all an very good product.
