This upgrade allows you to use 1/4" bits when trying to go through tougher material.

My old collet got lost somewhere, and I needed a new one to use my tool as designed. It was difficult to find it in the store, but after searching for a few minutes they had it on the shelf.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Maintguy Just right for the Ryobi cordless zip tool
Upon getting ready to use my cordless Ryobi version of the rotozip, I discovered I had a 1/8" collect only. My Home Depot doesn't carry the tool any longer, and there were no parts/accessories available for it. The tool had a 1/4" collet with it originally, but it had obviously fallen out of the box (no case provided with the tool). The instructions indicated that for 1/4" shanks, I was to remove the 1/4 to 1/8 adapter from the provided 2 piece collet. Well, my 1/8" collect must not be the one provided with the tool. It was one solid piece that had no adapter to remove (a few minutes in a vise using a small chisel confirmed this). The rotozip NUT in the kit would not fit my Ryobi - but the collets are a perfect match.

Some items are sold that the user know how to remove and replace a new part. Manufacturers should always include instruction or at least a website (if they don't want to kill trees) to direct people in the proper installation of replacement parts. Just because we know how to use the tools does NOT necessarily mean we know how to replace and repair the tool.
