Can it be used to undercut base and door jamb for tile

Asked by: Cas
Yes, you can use this tool using the wheels, but keep in mind that these wheels and right angle attachment has been discontinued. I would suggest for you to use a Dremel oscillating tool or one of the Dremel saws.

RotoSaw+ 6 Amp Corded Variable Speed Spiral Saw Kit with 11 Accessories and a Carrying Case is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 21.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes D-I-Y projects a Zip! Was anxious to put the Rotozip through its paces, to see if it really lived up to all the praises. Was pleasantly surprised to find it does. Started off with some practice on plywood and some old hardwood stock, and couldn't believe how easy it made the cuts. Will agree with others, though-- you definitely have to maintain complete, smooth control of the tool during your cuts, or you'll end up with some "oops"... Cut off some screws and nails embedded in wood-- again, made quick work of them. When cutting stock, I like the immediacy of turning while cutting. Since I plan to use this tool for some upcoming tiling projects, tested it out on several sample tiles-- wow, wish I'd had this saw two years ago, when I spent too much time & money on some alternative tile cutters that proved too feeble and not precise enough. A sturdy, powerful little tool. Would recommend this to all my fellow D-I-Y "weekend warriors."

Rated 5 out of 5 by from a great tool in the right applications This tool does great things in its intended applications. The motor is powerful, smooth and holds a constant speed (adjustable from 15K - 30K) under load. The RotoZip is well known for cutting drywall, grout and tile. I cut a couple of small holes in drywall and it worked find - no surprise - but I was more interested in other uses. The spiral bit moves through 1/4 inch plywood like it's not there, cuts 1/2 plywood like a hot knife through butter, and even made good progress through 3/4 inch maple - cleanly, no splintering. But it's a different kind of tool: it cuts in any direction, and it turns on a dime. Nudge it right, it cuts right. Hesitate and wiggle it around a little, and you have an 'oops'. It has no tendency to go in a straight line on its own so you need to get in the right position and securely brace and control the tool as you cut. The included depth guide helps control the tool on flat material. It works but does reduce light and visibility, and can only be attached in one orientation. Clear plastic would have helped. I bought the optional jigsaw handle attachment which greatly improves control, and with it I was able to easily cut odd shaped, curved pieces out of 1/2" plywood with pretty good accuracy, and of course no issue with arbor. A scroll saw or jigsaw could never have made these cuts. The right angle attachment and cutting guard convert this tool into something like RotoZip's "Zip Saw". The shield fully encloses the metal cutting wheel, but the wood wheel is offset for flush cutting so the shield only covers one side. It also limits the cutting depth to about 3/4". Although Rotozip says the tool is for flush cuts and 'cutoffs' and it's not promoted as a mini circular saw, there's nothing stopping you from using the wood wheel in other ways, and it cuts light stuff very well. But the shield won't really work against a fence or guide. The metal cutting wheel cut fast and clean on big bolts, galvanized sheet metal, and steel angle . No more tedious jobs with the hacksaw. The dust collection adapter connects a shop vac hose to ports on the attachments. It works, but doesn't lock into the opening, so it pops out easily unless you hold the hose under an arm, or get an assistant. There's an the optional Dust Management Kit which is just a piece of smaller diameter hose and an adapter for the vac - but $16 seems a bit high. You get a decent tool bag instead of an annoying plastic clamshell. I think the kit could be better. RotoZip has a new improved version of the right /cutting wheel guard attachments, so the ones in the kit are somewhat obsolete, but are wasted if you buy the new ones. And there's a new jigsaw handle attachment which is vastly better than the depth guide. I think they should have included the newer wheel guard. The jigsaw handle would push up the kit price, but it makes this a much more usefull tool.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Powerful Saw in your hand The are many things I like about this large Roto Zip saw. Also just a few things that did not sit well with me. It has the size and power to make cuts with out slowing down on certain material EX Drywall, Thin Plywood. Using the added attachment I was able to cut thru 3/8 bolts very easily. The side cutting attachment also made short work with PVC pipe. This is a perfect tool for a Do it yourself home owner. The plastic guard did not sit well with me. The intense vibrations created by the tool made this part loose at times when it needed to STAY tight. The Arbor set up can confuse you if your not used to this also. In summary it has the POWER. Just lacks in intense use with being able to hold itself to initial set up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A very good investment I purchased this Rotosaw for a bathroom remodel. It has performed excellent. I cut trim, sheetrock, tile, cement backer board, it did everything I wanted it to do. Spril cut holes for water pipes, it cut through the Marble threshold with ease. I would buy another one without a second thought. Switching from saw to Spiral is no problem. Now for the not so great things... It's a little bigger and heavier than I thought. Not bad just be aware. It's got Power, it will pull away from you, so I would say , this is not for the weak or small. The flat cut saw blade does throw out debris a bit, even with the vacuum attachment. And while I am on that, ALWAY use vacuum attachment when saw cutting Sheet rock, if not you go into a whiteout storm. Don

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Built to last, unlike the competition During a re-roofing job on our cabin, I managed to punch a few nails through the roof deck that missed the beams below. This left me with the task of getting rid of the 'shiners'. I was going to use my angle grinder, but it's a bit bulky so I decided to try out the Rotozip. It's a much easier product to handle than the angle grinder, but still a little bulky when the angled head attachment is fitted so I ran it like a cut off saw instead without using the angled head attachment. It worked like a dream and dealt with the nails in no time. I have some similar saw products and they are no comparison to this Rotozip. The 6 amp motor feels like it will last forever unlike the motor in my Dremel Multimax which feels like its always about to quit. I also liked the small carry bag that it comes in. Its always so much better to have a way to store the tools and keep all the accessories with the tool once they're out of the retail package. It also comes with a good range of attachments and tools like the angled head and the ceramic and metal disc blades. Next time I have woodwork or sheetrock to work with, I'll be using the Rotozip instead of the Multimax for sure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptionally Versatile This Roto Zip spiral saw is an outstanding versatile tool. The 6.0 amps provide enough power and torque to easily cut through the materials I have used in my projects so far. The well designed and positioned auxiliary control side handle really provides additional stability. Attachments are easily interchangeable. This tool has replaced my sabre and circular saws on most projects, and is a real time-saver. Well done Bosh!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from disappointed in this I was disappointed with this item. It looked like a saw that would be easy for a female to handle and use for small jobs. The directions were so confusing and the illustrations not at all clear that I spent several days trying to figure out how to assemble it properly. I finally took it to the store and had an associate try to assemble it correctly and he could not figure it out either. I ended up taking it back and buying the Dremel one like it. No trouble at all with the Dremel, instructions were clear and the tool is very easy for me to use. This one had better reviews than the Dremel but for me, the Dremel is much easier to assemble and use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love it I couldn't decide between a Roto zip and a Dremel, but other reviews made me decide to go with the,Roto zip since it's heavier duty. I was trying to cut a section out of a bathroom vanity shelf, and it worked like a charm. This will be handy to have around!
