Customer Questions & Answers

Will this leach into my lawn if i apply it to weeds in the lawn?

I have patches of mouse ear chickweed, and the weed-b-gon and other products don't seem to be working all that well. I want to apply this product to those patches.
Asked by: Harrison
You shouldn't have leaching issues, but the applicator head is about 0.75x2.5 inches so chances are you will actually apply some of the gel to your grass.

Does it work on poison ivy?

Asked by: Sandy
I don't think so. Poison ivy is a woody plant. To do a good job, you will need a bush killer.

Precision Gel 5 oz. Weed and Grass Killer is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 98.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Application advice This product kills weeds and grass just like the liquid Round-up does. However, it is important to "dab" the weed or grass with the jell instead of using a back and forth horizontal movement to apply it. Otherwise the weed may bend and fling some of the gel to a surrounding plant. It is definitely a good product for getting those weeds in and around flower beds. Just remember to "dab" it on instead of "rubbing" it on. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good for pinpoint killing of weeds and grass This product is very limited to killing weeds and grass. It was fine if you have weeds in a garden or a specific walkway and don't want to kill your lawn. It wouldn't work on a driveway or larger areas as you be on your hands and knees to use it. The gel part does make it stick to what you want to kill. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Precision control for weeds and grass The RoundUp precision weed and grass control is just that - control for precise areas. The product is meant to be applied to the offending plant (grass or weed). It doesn't work like the conventional RoundUp that you spray to to test. My application was to treat stubborn growing weeds in my flower bed. We have some perennial flowering plants that would be too delicate to use a spray treatment and pulling the offending weed had risk of damaging the roots of the perennial. The RoundUp precision gel was the best option. I had my doubts that just touching the weeds with the precision gel was going to work but after 3 - 4 days the tested weeds began to turn yellow. By the end of the week they were just about dead which made it safe to pull them. The RoundUp precision gel dispensed very easily and product control is adequate. It's a little more time consuming to treat this way versus spraying, however, you do get the precision control.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect for spot treatment of medium to larger weeds The Roundup Precision Gel is very easy to use, providing you are not trying to apply to tiny sized new growth weeds or low creeping weeds that are snuggled between the taller grass blades. The applicator easily pushes up a small amount of gel, but the applicator head doesn't allow you to apply gel to tiny weeds without getting gel onto wanted grass. However, the gel can be easily applied to a larger leaf weed. The results are excellent and as I would expect of Roundup. The weed quickly dies from the visible plant to the entire root, there is absolutely no regrowth of the weed even after a few weeks of the application. When walking the lawn inspecting for unwanted weeds, I carry the Roundup Precision Gel applicator and a few Q-Tip cotton swabs, then simply swipe the swab onto the applicator, picking up a little gel, then apply the gel to the tiniest of little weeds. The results are successful with a perfect kill. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally a product that perfectly targets unwanted grass and weeds. I have always found fault with sprays and powder herbicide products as they are difficult to precisely target what I want killed. Unwanted weeds are generally interspersed in my yard among good grass. Spraying not only kills the weeds but the surrounding grass. What one is left with is dead areas in the lawn that detract from the lawn's appearance. This product eliminates the problem. First of all it is a gel that stays on the unwanted weeds or grass instead of dribbling off of it as a spray does. It is applied directly onto the unwanted weed or grass. As norm for Roundup, it kills the roots. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Unsure about this best use for this product? I was very excited to try the new Scott's Precision Gel product since I live in an area with lots of both poisonous and invasive plants. After opening up the product and pumping some poison to the head it became apparent that it would be very difficult to apply to poisonous plants period. As for some of the invasive plants such as honeysuckle it was much easier but also difficult to apply a steady stream of product. From what I tried the chemicals did their job but in a spotty manner. I think it has a purpose but for me the regular Roundup does the trick much quicker and in a more efficient way. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use gel product This product comes in a compact plastic container that is very easy to use. You roll it out, and the amount dispensed is enough to cover the desired weeds without spreading to grass or other plants. It is best for small areas such as weeds growing through cracks in pavement or patio stones, but can also be used for the stray weed or dandelion which crops up in your otherwise green lawn. The weeds die quickly and have not returned. A good, efficient product which does what it states it will do. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
