Can these shelves be painted? If so, what type of paint is recommended?
Asked by: Dette
Thanks for your interest in our products. We do not recommend painting the 11.8 in. x 71.8 in. White Laminate Decorative Shelf. Due to the material the shelf is made of, paint will not adhere well. In addition, painting or altering your shelf is not covered under our limited warranty.

Has anyone seen any sort of brace to tie the ends of these boards together when they don't end on a bracket?

My shelving system has many loose boards that cant support any weight where the boards butt against each other.

How is the shelf attached to the bracket?

For a white laminate decorative shelf, used with the twin track upright and twin track shelf bracket, how does the shelf attach to the bracket? Is it just resting on the bracket, or is there a way to actually attach it?
Asked by: cphict
It is attached with screws - there are holes in the bracket to accommodate them.

Support for Shelf?

Putting Shelves above washer and dryer. Span is 60". If I support on three sides, do I need mid-support? Does anyone make a wider shelf?
Asked by: John
For that length, I would use one or two center brackets. Even if you're not going to put a lot of weight on it, it'll keep it from sagging in the middle.

11.8 in. x 71.8 in. White Laminate Decorative Shelf is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 330.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice, but not full 12 x 36 First of all, the shelf is not a full 12 x 36. Like lumber, it is actually a little smaller. I think the vendor should update their marketing copy, bullet points and specifications to make this clear. The label on the shelf shows actual dimensions, which are a little smaller. The shelf is very nice and clean. I needed to replace the bottom shelves in my kitchen island cabinets that were water warped. My cabinets are white Formica. Using these shelves I was able to cut them cleanly and use to replace the warped shelves, and in the end, they matched perfectly. A lot easier than making shelves myself and painting or covering with Formica myself. Perfect solution for my problem.

The shelves are exactly what I pictured and work perfectly for holding my books. I'm taking off 2 stars only because of the packaging/shipping. They were packaged terribly. The ends of the boards were not protected whatsoever, which lead to them being damaged/chipped on all 4 edges of each boards. If they would have just wrapped the ends of the boards with ANYTHING, this wouldn't have happened. I'm keeping them and just painting over the chipped areas.

They were stacked vertically with ZERO protective packaging up on the 2nd shelf (~ 45 inches from the ground). This guaranteed that these slightly heavy pieces had to be maneuvered up and over the shelf-lip and then down to inspect. Every Single One was damaged with dings, tears, scrapes and gouges in the cheap, thin plasti-paper coating! I even checked both sides of them. This forced me to purchase basic wood, primer and paint to try and salvage what would've been a wasted trip to H.D. These need to be stacked horizontally, just up from the ground with spacers in between, because they have ZERO protective packaging!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked like a charm I needed to add a shelf in a kitchen cabinet at home, and the local cabinet installer would not return my calls after many repeated attempts and a visit to his shop. I searched on-line and found some places that required that I buy 5 or 10 shelves. The trick was to find a piece of particle board, or the like, that matched the laminate used on the existing shelves. I went to my local Home Depot and was able to find this shelf that was very close to a color match and it needed only an inch or so cut off two edges to fit perfectly. The cost was minimal and it saved the day.

They are laminate so be careful if you cut them and know you will have a bare end if you do. I bought really great hardware for them for amazon- reclaimed iron brackets. Sadly, the Home Depot shipping on these is not great. They are poorly packaged and by sheer luck our first order was not damaged. Our second order was really beat up. They came in a box that was too big for them and NO FILLER material to buffer the corners. HD made up for it by expediting new ones to us but I had to pack up the busted ones and ship them back, on their dime. The fast delivery was nice but my project was still set back a few days. Despite me telling customer service about the packing issue, the replacement was still packed very poorly-lucked out that there was not damage.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Good Substitute My new kitchen cabinets had only one finished shelf per cabinet, and we needed more shelves in the same or a very similar finish. The cabinet shelves were 3/4" thick, but the locking shelf holders for that thickness of shelf were unavailable - discontinued. These half-inch-thick shelves are a close match to my existing shelves in color, and I was able to find 1/2" locking shelf holders, so these were an easy solution. I was very relieved to find them.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I expected that the metal strips to hang clips on would be the same length as the 71.8" boards. ... I expected that the metal strips to hang clips on would be the same length as the 71.8" boards. Instead, the strips were 72" long. I had to use a hacksaw to take 1/4" from each metal strip used in order to nail them to the 72" boards and add a top/bottom shelf to the system. The boards were made well enough for assembling a closet system, but the edges were not the quality I would use for shelving in a room, as the edges were sometimes rough.
