Answer:
I believe so. There would not be any problem say on an outdoor covered patio. Just remember, though the plastic is good quality it is designed for indoor use. If it was left for long periods outside in direct sunlight, exposed to the elements, it probably would not be as durable as a trashcan designed for outdoor use.

Answer:
I suppose it could be used outdoors but it depends on where you place it outside. If you plan to put it on a covered deck or patio area it should be OK. Keep in mind It is not weather resistant like the Rubbermaid outdoor and commercial trash barrels so it will fade and the plastic will probably crack in direct sunlight, etc. after some time.

If you are wondering how the trash liner lock hold down bars lock trash bag down, when you close them down on lip of can they have a tab that snaps into the inside, side of can holding the bars down on the bag. Gently push tabs inward from outside of can ,lift bars to remove bag.

I did not pull the liner lock out all the way. Just pulled up, inserted bag and snapped in to place. The lid design is flawed in my opinion and that may be the issue.

Answer:
The liner lock is not designed to be removed. The user "unclips" the two sides and it is hinged at the front and rear. Slip the bag over the liner lock starting at the rear and working it toward you (like you would put a fitted sheet on a bed), then snap the two ends down until they lock. If one of the liner locks pops out of its hinge, simply snap it back in place.

Thank you for your interest in our products. To use the liner lock feature in the wastebasket, lift the wires up and place the trash bag into the can wrapping the top of the trash can bag around back wire. Push the back wire down once the bag is wrapped around it and then place the top of the trash bag around the front wire and push the wire back down.

Hi Karissa, first of all, I'd like to know how you got the lid off? After I posted my review of this trash bucket, your question came up so I went to my bucket to see if I could get the lid off and help you.
After a great deal of struggle with arthritic hands, I did figure out how to remove it...after pinching the wide tabs at the very back the lid it did come off pretty easily; then, reversing the process and really pushing hard, the tabs snapped back in.
I'll be using baking soda and vinegar to clean the lid in the future. Since it's been driving you crazy, I have to assume you tried the exact same thing that I just did,
Home Depot and Rubbermaid have great customer service/support so in all honesty, and appreciating your vexation, I'd urge you to go to the 'Depot for help or replacement. I wish I could be more help to you, but it's also possible it's not you - it could be the lid assembly is defective, or maybe one of the tabs broke?
Please for your own peace of mind, check with the store or go to Rubbermaid directly. They don't like having unhappy customers. :) Read Less

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very nice trash can and Made in the USA! This is a very nice trash can. I love that the Liner Lock keeps the bag in place around the rim and that it just takes gentle pressure to open the lid. (see video) Not only is it a really nice waste basket but you could use it for other things too like pet food or for storing something like lawn fertilizer, etc. It is designed really well and is neat and attractive looking. The color black makes it look nice and sleek. It is very lightweight so you can move it around easily. It seems durable but not heavy duty. It is about 24 inches deep. I am also very pleased to know it is Made in the USA! August 18, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Sorry to say disappointing..... This USA made Rubbermaid 13 gal trash container disappointed me. The release tab for the lid and the lid both require way too much force of push for my preferences. I am finding the lid does not latch to stay closed sometimes, turning back and seeing the lid springing back open. The trash bag does not tuck away nicely and is seen flapping out onto the release latch blocking view of lid release tab. August 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by You can use any size bags I was surprised that I could use my 30 gal bags in this can. They may be over kill but I hate pulling out a bag and it is so full it's hard to close. It has this neat liner lock system that holds the bag in place. It is much smaller then my old one so it doesn't take up much space. I love the way you press gently on the front and the lid pops up (see my video). It's a nice black color that goes nicely with my kitchen. And it is made in the US so that's a big plus. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Trash Can for Shop Area! I received this item in the mail .... it arrived in good time and was packaged well. It has a "Touch Top" which pops up the lid when pressed. It also has a plastic can liner with arms for securing a garbage bag and holds a 13 GAL. or 49.1 L garbage bag. The can is made by Rubbermaid and is a mid-weight black plastic. It is 24.8 inches tall and sits 15.4 inches from the wall. It is 17.6 inches wide. August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy open Easy close I needed a new garbage can and this one is one fit the bill nicely. It has a locking lid that springs open with just a touch and closes easily as well locking in place. The inside is 13 gallon and has two locking bars inside to hold the bag in place and keeps it from falling into the can. It is well molded and sturdy, the lid and the can are of the same thickness and should hold up for years.Easily washable and looks nice. July 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A Trash Can that looks nice I had a trash can that had the swinging lid that I liked but sometimes food would get on the lid when cleaning off a plate and was just aggravating to have to keep wiping it off. I know the lid could have been taken off but not everyone in the household would do that. So with this one touch open Rubbermaid trash can it opens completely up so cleaning off plates or bowls is so a breeze. One less mess to clean and that is what I like. I like the way the trash bags are put on secure. When you raise the lid you will see on each side along the top of the trash can a grey liner lock. This is a feature I really like because it secures your trash bag keeping it from falling down in the trash can. The lid is easy to open. You just gently push down on the lever part and it pops right open completely. Then just push it down to snap it shut. To put a trash bag on you just lift up the arms on the inside of the trash can and wrap your trash bad around it then press the arms down and it secure the trash bag. Nice feature I really like. Your trash bag does not show because it's on the inside of the trash can. Your trash can looks so neat and don't we all want a neat looking trash can. :) Nice looking in your kitchen with no bad handing over the sides. Changing the trash bag is simple too. There are 3 steps to changing the trash bag...lift the arms up then wrap the bag around them and then shut the lid. So easy. .It hold 13 gallons of trash. Can is made out of plastic. The trash can measurements are L - 15.44 inches - W - 17.59 inches - H - 24.82 inches. Trashcan is easy to wash out. Easy to handle..not real heavy. No matter how big or small your kitchen is this trash can will look nice. I am glad I chose this trash can and it is an overall really nice. Love it so far. July 31, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by TOUCH LID WORKS GOOD THIS TOUCH LID WASTEBASKET IS IDEAL FOR HOLDING ALL KINDS OF TRASH. IT IS WELL MADE AND IT HAS A CLEAN LOOK. THERE IS A GRAY RING OF SORTS INSIDE THE RIM OF THE WASTEBASKET THAT YOU CAN LIFT UP AND TUCK THE TOP OF THE PLASTIC TRASH BAG THAT YOU SUPPLY AND INSERT UNDER THE RING SO THE BAG WILL NOT DROP IN TO THE BOTTOM OF THE WASTEBASKET. THE FRONT CAN NOT BE TUCKED UNDER SO AS THE PUSH TAB WILL NOT BE COVERED. THE TOUCH LID WORKS EASY AND POPS THE LID RIGHT UP AND LOCKS DOWN WHEN YOU PUSH DOWN THE LID, TOUCH LID WORKS GOOD. July 6, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Touch-top is a stretch It's a small step above your typical Rubbermaid plastic trash bin. It has a spring loaded lid and bit of plastic on the inner rim that helps secure the bag. However the top and locking mechanism are pretty flimsy. It's a bit comical to get the lid latch to engage in the closed position. I typically have to push the lid down 3 or 4 times before it locks closed. It's also doesn't create much of a seal, so if you have stinky trash this isn't going to do much to contain the stench. For my use case of saw dust and "shop trash" it'll be fine, but you may want to consider for your use case. June 24, 2016
