A couple years ago I purchased a similar looking trashcan from Home Depot. That one had metal "arms" inside to hold the trashbag. I wanted another one just like it but when I went to Home Depot yesterday, they no longer sell it. This was the closest one. I made a big mistake buying it and now will waste more time and energy having to return it. The plastic arms don't hold the bag in at all but the worst part is that the top doesn't even attempt to stay closed - with or without the bag. If I wanted a trashcan that stayed open, I'd have bought one without a lid. So annoyed.

The lid on this container will eventually open by itself. Luckily i don't produce to much trash but if i did i suspect i would have unwanted vermin in the home. BEWARE!

found an easy fix for the lid....take off the plastic piece that's "supposed to hold the lid on" cut a piece of
foam(from on of those interlocking basement tiles..)slide it into the slot under where the bracket was...then re-install the bracket....this gives it a spring like action..has worked perfect for months now...

The size of the trash can is great, the features also great... unfortunately, the features don't work very well. Trash bag stays in place with the liner lock, BUT the most annoying thing is the lid not staying closed. You can play with the plastic piece that holds the lid closed all day long, and it may work in the beginning. But eventually, the lid will stay open unless you place a paper weight on top of it. I'm about to throw this trash container in the trash!
Side note, this product is so poorly made, it's not even listed as a discontinued item on Rubbermaid's website. Says a lot...

To be fair, it does hold trash. The plastic arms to hold the trash bag in place actually worked for me, so I'm not certain why others had trouble with that. The problem really, as many have said, is that the lid doesn't function properly. The plastic mechanism that holds it in place (both on the front and the swivel on the back) broke promptly after getting home. I wasn't too surprised, however. 15 bucks doesn't really go as far as you'd think. I've still been using it though--I just take the lid off when I need to put trash in, and put it back on after. It does what a trash can is supposed to do, but if you're buying it for the lid, I'd suggest you spring for something of a little more quality.

Guess I should have read the reviews first. Just like the rest say, it doesn't work at all. Lid will not stay shut at all. This is garbage, pun intended.

I got one of the supposedly newer improved model with the plastic arms to hold the bag, but the lid was a little warped and it will not stay closed it keeps popping open. I purchased it on 10/09/2013 as as in the case of others it didn't last long before it would not say closed and the edge the latch handle snapped into on the front of the can was bent out of shape so it would no longer latch and stay closed. I finally removed one of the springs so I could close it manually and it would stay down. I still have to manually lift the lid but if I let go with only one spring holding it it will fall and stay closed. I have been using it all of this time but I am not happy with it. I will be contacting Rubbermaid to see if it is still under warranty and see if I can replace it with another model can. This touch top model even though improved is still worthless.

Seemed like a great product from a great company, Rubbermaid. Nice idea with the arms on both sides that hold the bag in place, but really doesn't. The worst feature is the plastic handle on the front that is supposed to keep the lid closed. Major failure. Pay a few extra bucks for something that works.
