Customer Questions & Answers

What is the color ?

Asked by: Gabriel
It's all silver shelving. However as wire shelves, it's pretty minimalist. Once you load it up with boxes, tools, gear, you don't see the shelves very much. These are mainly for shop, storage, pantry, etc. Not the type you would throw in a living room. Not "decorative"

Does installation require separate mounting rail?

The instructions indicate a separate mounting rail is required at the top of the assembly, but it's not identified in this package as being present.
Asked by: Brent
Thank you for your interest in our FastTrack Garage 4 Shelf Kit. We recommend installing with our FastTrack Garage Rail to support the weight of this Shelving system.

FastTrack Garage 4-Shelf 48 in. x 16 in. Wire Shelving Kit is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Overpriced junk Purchased online without seeing the product. It arrived very timely but upon installation I quickly realized this system was made of cheap materials and it did not include the track. The track is essential for installation so I had to buy it at the store. The directions for installation are confusing and the product is cheap. Youbare better off piecing a system together by purchasing a competitors parts separately.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful, great system! We love the FastTrack system. It's easy to install and allows for simple customization of your space. The product is a sleek grey/silver color, and looks modern and simple. Installation is as easy as attaching the tracks to the wall and choosing your shelf heights. I would definitely recommend this product! 4 shelves might not be enough for you after trying it out!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from handy Installed these in my storage closet, and they really helped organize things. They come with ALMOST everything needed to install, and it would be everything if you were installing into ordinary studs. I was installing on an outer wall and it is concrete block. Most people will install these in a garage, but there are some that will use them for an interior room like I did, and the anchors needed for concrete would be nice to have. The shelves are very good quality, and will support enough weight for most applications. They are very easily adjustable for different heights.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very sturdy shelving This shelving system is really sturdy, and because of the ability to space the shelves how you want it ends up being really useful. I ended up installing this in my garage to shelve my sprouting system for animal fodder. I was able to space the shelves to hold the smaller and larger tubs for the best space usage. Also, the length ended up being just perfect to hit studs so I don't have to worry about weight of what I put on the shelves. Very nice!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast & Easy This is a great set of shelving for the home or garage. It is composed of heavy duty wire shelving that is attached to three bars. The installation is fast and easy. I like attaching my support rods to studs, but this kit also includes the hardware to attach if studs aren't available. You use screws to attach the rods, insert the fast clips and hang your shelves.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Shelving sets For the purpose of this review, I will be covering both the “Fast track 16 in x 48 in black laminate shelves” and the “fast track 4-shelf 46in steel wire shelving kit”. They are set up literally the same, only the shelves are different. If referring to the pictures you will see I have them mounted side by side, so instead of two 4’wide by 8’ high, it’s one full 8’wide by 8’ high set up. I then set all the solid black laminate shelves on the top two rows, and the wire shelves on the bottom two. Each of these install very easily. Biggest thing you need is to find out where your studs in the wall are. Yes it does come with dry wall anchors, but we all know a screw into a solid stud will have a much heavier workload, then an anchor into drywall. You essentially mount the tracks along the studs vertical. Typically studs are 12” apart, so once you find the first one, plan for it to have another stud every 12”. As seen in the pictures, the tracks are two pieces vertically. One is I think 48”, the other I think 24”. Giving you a total vertical length of 72” (6 feet). As you can see I mounted mine more than a foot off the ground. I mean the ground itself count’s as a platform, so ideally you want your first shelf a decent height above the ground. Mine is about 20”. I leave the ground for things I don’t want to drip onto my nice shelves such as fuel, landscaping equipment covered in dirt/grass, etc. As for a comparison, I would say the Black Laminate shelves hold more weight than the wire shelves. Not a lot more, but they are generally more solid shelves where as the wire shelves flex more. However, this is a double edged sword. Yes they can hold more, but the black laminate shelves themselves are already heavy. When carrying each shelving set in the box, the wire one was maybe 15pnds tops. The black laminate was likely closer to 80pnds. So imagine if you plan to have 200pnds of stuff on the shelves, one set will be 215, the other 280. Pretty big difference, especially if you are mounting to drywall. Not to mention filling up these shelves you can easily go over 200pnds especially if it’s a lot of paints/liquids/heavy materials. What’s the actual work load? That I’m not sure. I have all of my shelves full of heavy gear such as paint cans, buckets of bolts/nuts, heavy power tools, etc. I’d say between the two sets I’m likely pushing 500pnds of gear, and I’m completely confident that it’ll hold, and possibly even hold more weight. Installation only requires a screwdriver (recommend power drill), either a measuring tape or level (to install it “professionally”). If into drywall you will want a drill and a drill bit (see instructions for actual size) for the anchor. Both sets took me maybe 45 mins total to set up on my own. So expect maybe 20-30 mins each if by yourself. The shelf arms lock to the actual shelves securely. The wire shelves have a latch that locks them into place. The black laminate have screws in the shelf arms that go up into the actual shelves to secure them. Tips and tricks. Now you will notice in one of my pictures where the two join each other, it’s not a perfectly flush joint. Note that’s as good as it gets. Only way to make it perfectly flush would be to make some sort of brace between the two such as a 1x4 under the joint screw into both. For the wire mesh you can try to get a hold of 3/16” ID tubing and fit it around the wire mesh to “join” them together. I will say it does help on the outer most shelf arms, if you twist them outwards. What this does is it pulls the shelves against each other, prompting a better joint between the two. Again this is only if you have the shelves side by side with other shelves. If you have just the one set, it won’t apply. I will say I love these shelves. If I had to pick one over the other, I would pick the wire mesh for a few reasons. If the laminate gets wet, the laminate is water resistant, however the particle board under the laminate is very susceptible to water damage. So if it gets wet, it gets ruined. The wire shelves, don’t have an issue with water. Sure they are essentially steel with a rubber coating on them, so yeah if the rubber coating gets worn they could rust, but that’s likely something that won’t happen for a long time. Unless you are cutting on it, grinding, using a torch or something hot, etc. Not to mention, they are significantly more light weight. Last pro they have over the laminate is when using things that might be dripping/wet, the liquid falls through. Not to mention for those of you using it in a shop like myself, sawdust/dust/whatever doesn’t build up on wire shelves nearly as much as solid shelves. I still recommend both, though I do prefer the wire shelves above all else.
