Customer Questions & Answers

Can I use the existing post to install a Rubbermaid mailbox?

Asked by: Anonymous
Sure, as long as there's between 22 - 30 inches of straight, undamaged post left above the ground.

What is needed to install this mail box?

Asked by: Anonymous
You will need a post hole digger or a way to dig an 18" deep hole that a 4"x4" will fit in. You will also need a Phillips screw driver, a drill, a bag of sakrete, and a 4"x4" treated post 48" long. That should do it.

How long does the new 4x4 post need to be?

How long should the 4x4 post be? How much of the 4X4 post should be above ground level to set this piece over? How much should be buried? Should I use quickcrete to set the post?
Asked by: Anonymous
According to the instrucrions, 30 inches from ground level. I cut mine to 29 inches to make sure there would be no binding. The mailbox post slips over this post and is attached by 4 screws.

Customer Reviews

Gentry All-in-One Plastic Mailbox and Post Combo, White is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 217.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better then expected It took longer to dig the hole then it did putting this together. Get a 6ft pressure treated 4x4, sink it 18-22 inches in the ground. Get the quick-crete in the red bag that's designed for post/90 min set up. Put a small amount of quick-crete on bottom of post, set post in, 1/2 a bag of quick-crete, and 1/2 a gallon of water, level post on all sides, wait an hour then slide cover over post; secure with 4 supplied screws, then assemble the rest. Assembly will take about 6 minutes. Don't forget to purchase your reflective mailbox numbers.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Junk Annoying to assemble. Certain pieces are deliberately sized so that you have to squeeze them to get them to fit together. I had a difficult time getting the mailbox to fit together onto the newspaper holder, to the point where the guides got damaged. I ultimately got everything to fit together after more hassle than should have been necessary, but not snuggly. I ended up using some Loctite Power Grab like caulk to seal the pieces together. At $54, this thing is overpriced, and should be more like $30 or $35 for the quality you get. Would not recommend.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from buyer beware of uneven construction quality I read the reviews for how easy it is to assemble and found out the hard way why it was easy for some and not others. The quality control for manufacturing these units is clearly inconsistent. The assembled box took some effort as it did not snap in as the instructions say. Then sliding the finished box onto the post is not working. I saw where some advised cutting away some of the plastic track. Tried this and only got half way onto the post. I'm not sure how I will be able to attach this to the post. So much for easy. Also, the opening in the bottom of the post was too small for my 4x4. I had to cut away some of that plastic as well. It SHOULD BE EASY IF THEY HAD TAKEN MORE CARE TO MANUFACTURE AND CHECK WITH BETTER QUALITY CONTROL.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product, this is my second one! I am delighted with my new mailbox and post combo. It looks great and was so easy to put up! No problems what-so-ever, plus I never have to paint it. This is the second one of these mailboxes I have purchased. I had one at a previous house I owned. I was delighted to get a chance to buy another one just like it only a little larger. I now have a place for my paper or small packages to be in out of the rain. This is a great product and I recommend it highly!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from love it ! It's wide enough for magazines to lay flat - I would never have guessed how nice that is, after all these years of bent magazines. It also looks GOOD - stands out on the street where everyone seems to have the "other" mailbox. Had dark green before, the black is very good looking. However, numbers were not included, so don't forget to get those, also reflectors if you want them.
