Customer Questions & Answers

Can I use the existing post to install a Rubbermaid mailbox?

Asked by: Anonymous
Sure, as long as there's between 22 - 30 inches of straight, undamaged post left above the ground.

What is needed to install this mail box?

Asked by: Anonymous
You will need a post hole digger or a way to dig an 18" deep hole that a 4"x4" will fit in. You will also need a Phillips screw driver, a drill, a bag of sakrete, and a 4"x4" treated post 48" long. That should do it.

How long does the new 4x4 post need to be?

How long should the 4x4 post be? How much of the 4X4 post should be above ground level to set this piece over? How much should be buried? Should I use quickcrete to set the post?
Asked by: Anonymous
According to the instrucrions, 30 inches from ground level. I cut mine to 29 inches to make sure there would be no binding. The mailbox post slips over this post and is attached by 4 screws.

Customer Reviews

Gentry All-in-One Plastic Mailbox and Post Combo in Venetian Bronze is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 218.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better then expected It took longer to dig the hole then it did putting this together. Get a 6ft pressure treated 4x4, sink it 18-22 inches in the ground. Get the quick-crete in the red bag that's designed for post/90 min set up. Put a small amount of quick-crete on bottom of post, set post in, 1/2 a bag of quick-crete, and 1/2 a gallon of water, level post on all sides, wait an hour then slide cover over post; secure with 4 supplied screws, then assemble the rest. Assembly will take about 6 minutes. Don't forget to purchase your reflective mailbox numbers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Mailbox My mailbox got hit by a car and more damage was done to the car than the mailbox. And it still functions fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product, this is my second one! I am delighted with my new mailbox and post combo. It looks great and was so easy to put up! No problems what-so-ever, plus I never have to paint it. This is the second one of these mailboxes I have purchased. I had one at a previous house I owned. I was delighted to get a chance to buy another one just like it only a little larger. I now have a place for my paper or small packages to be in out of the rain. This is a great product and I recommend it highly!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Read and follow directions This mailbox definitely needs a 4 x 4 wooden post set in concrete in order to support the top heavy mailbox. When putting mailbox and post together, follow the directions to the T. I only had one problem - when it came time to slide the finished mailbox onto the post, it would only slide part of the way. AFter many tries, I went online and read several reviews and discovered that the plastic groove that the mailbox slides onto needed to be trimmed with a sharp knife to remove pieces of plastic that got in the way. Once I removed those bits of plastic, the mailbox slid onto the post easily. Also, the screws that come with the mailbox (to screw the post to your wooden post) are trash. The heads of the screw came off of 3 of the 4. I purchased some premium wood screws a little bit longer and they went in with no problem. I knocked off a star because of these two problems.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Gentry All-in-one Plastice Mailbox and Post Combo The mailbox was easy to assemble, however, it did not fit quite straight and snug as it should have. The grooves that the box had to slide into seemed to be worn! The front door flap is not tight enough! It falls open. And, I thought it had the extra post(wooden) to attach the Post that was enclosed, but it had to be purchased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Elegant looking and very well priced My wife is an interior designer and a very picky one at that. She really liked the way this mailbox looks. It is very well designed as well. The nice thing about plastic is that it won't rust or dent. The only gripe I have is the way it is packaged. The parts get loose in the box and the screws totally scuffed up the mailbox. Home Depot customer service was outstanding. They overnighted another one right away and gave me a discount on it to boot!. Well the second one had loos parts in the box as well but fortunately it did not manage to scuff up anything this time. I think HD needs to take a look into their packaging methods to save themselves and their customers any future grief and wasted time. ~Peace
