Customer Questions & Answers

Can color

The image shows a chocolate brown can w/ black attaching lid, but the description just states color is black. Can you clarify the true color of the can? Thank you.
Asked by: Anonymous
It is a slate black. Not too exciting, I know, but I can't think of a color I would prefer. And you can't beat the quality.

Can this can be used for making compost?

Would like to begin making compost for my vegetable garden. Saw on youtube people have used garbage cans in place of buying an expensive compost machine.
Asked by: SB211
Yes I have been using 3 of these for the last 3 years and it makes compost, I just "hacked" it by drilling holes for airation along the bottom, lid, and all around, plus designed a tube to place in the centre (this year) with holes for additional airation. Will plastic leech out onto the compost materials.. I'm sure to some degree, but I like to trust a plant's intelligence to uptake what it needs from the my home made composts using all organic matter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I use this for my kitchen trash can - not to small and not to big! I use this for my kitchen trash can - not to small and not to big!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great value! Its a trashcan, so a glowing review goes like this : I am astounded by the symmetry of this object. It has a well defined cylindrical shape,a remarkable depth of black color, topped by the gently curved lid which fits snugly over the broad lip of the can, and has handles on the side of the cylinder which protrude ever so slightly yet have sufficient room for a big paw to grasp. It is capable of holding a 50 pound back of black oil sunflower seeds and rest comfortably on a flat surface. I endorse this product for completely meeting expectations. I do not recommend it as a musical instrument, or a mixing container for concrete.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Fantastic Can, Horrible Lid I own 3 of these, since 2012. The cans are great, but as many reviewers have stated, the lids are very poor quality. The lids are so deteriorated after just 4 years that if you barely touch them, they crack and fall to pieces. Rubbermaid implies that they are selling something built to last, and back it up with a 10 year warranty, but their lids are not standing up to their promise. If you need a trashcan with a lid and expect it to last for a reasonable amount of time, avoid Rubbermaid.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very poor lid I bought a 20gal roughneck about a year and a half ago.It is inside my garage so it is not in the sun.The only problem is the lid.It didn't even last a year before it started to crack. Now it can't be used at all and you can't buy the lid separately. So i would not recommend this product to anyone.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great size - but lid cracked already Not even a year old and lid is cracked :-( Was hoping to take to my new house since I will be moving soon but without a lid I'm not thinking that I will.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from One Year Can Lid only lasted one year before it split. We use it to store potting soil bags and it did not last one season.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bucket great, lid lousy I am a long-time owner, at least 5 years, but more likely 8. This can has withstood abuse (I store wood in it) and all kinds of weather and is still going strong. The lid is another story. After year 1 it developed cracks. I duct-taped the first cracks and the ones that came in the subsequent years. It wasn't pretty but kept the rain out. This winter we have had freezing temperatures and the lid has basically disintegrated. The bucket is scratched but does not leak. And as noted by another reviewer I can't just buy a new lid!!! How is that for environmental responsibility?! I won't buy another one.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality lid We bought this 20 gal trash can when we retired and moved to FloridaThe can was kept in our garage and never stored or used outside, and never subjected to teenagers or young children. The handles on the lid started to break in less than 1 year, and have completely broken off after only 2 years, despite our exercising as much care as possible when opening the can. I've had other Rubbermaid trash cans that lasted for decades, but the quality seems to have gone down hill.
