Answer:
This ultimately depends on where you live. If you live near a wooded area with a lot of critters nearby, this can isn't likely to do a good job keeping animals out of your trash. The lid is pretty easy to open with one hand, and my kids (4 and 6 years old) can easily get the lid off.

Answer:
One model does, one model doesn't have wheels.
The wheeled version has very small wheels (perhaps 2-3" in diameter), so it won't roll over anything except a solid hard surface. That is, it won't roll on grass or soft dirt.

Roughneck 32 Gal. Black Round Trash Can with Lid is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 395.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from As a trash can it's great! The price was right and I have a couple already that have served me well. The lid stays on even when it's windy and pets and other critters can't get into them. But I bought this one to modify as a compost container that I could tip over and roll around every few days. With 5/16" holes it works well enough to start cooking the compost but it's not stiff enough to lay on its side and roll around like I'm supposed to when it's 3/4 full. Trash can yes, you'll be happy with it but cheap rolling compost tumbler no.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from To cheap. Very flimsy and lid falls off Got as a replacement and hate them. Lid doesn't seal well flys can get in the can. Lid falls off just carrying tha trash to the curb. If the can is to heavy the can is so thin it will buckle and pinch. Not like the old ones.

The name "Roughneck" implies a sturdy product, and this is not. I bought it to store bagged stuff like dog food in it, but the lid--also on the soft side--does not fit snugly, and it is a bit difficult to snap into place (it has two small snaps, 180 degrees opposite each other). I almost returned it, but I needed it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from ok for price, I guess Containers are much lighter weight than the ones I have had for several years, Not planning to need them for much longer, moving to smaller place, so these should get me there. Lid is flat instead of crowned like old containers and not as thick plastic. If you are planning to use these a lot for somewhat heavy material, I suggest you move up to next level.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great quality for the price I've been able to convert this bin into a compost unit. I drill holes all around it and it has been able to maintain its structure and provide me with a reliable and safe compost bin. I don't have to worry about critters getting in. The only thing I would change is the sturdiness of the lid.
Date published: 2016-08-16
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not very Roughneck !! Bought two Roughneck cans 20 years ago and they are still in use, these recent ones probably won't last a year. Thin and flimsy .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Used as rainbarrels under roof downspouts; good robust container; repeat buyer. Used as rainbarrels under roof downspouts; good robust container; repeat buyer.
Date published: 2016-10-25
Rated 5 out of 5 by from DUAL-CAN I had already bought rain barrels to collect the rain that we recently had. I didn't want a lot of rain barrels because we don't get a lot of rain. I needed something that I could use to collect the overflow and yet use whatever I found for other things after the rain. I found this trash can. It was just as strong as the rain barrel and I could use it for something else after the rain and not spend a lot of money on something to use. Yes, you can get a rebate on your rain barrels and your allowed only so many. This is a tuff trash can and is worth the price. Just because it's labeled a "trash can" doesn't mean you have to use it for trash only and it's worth the price.
