What sized bags should I use? 50 Gallon? 42?

Locking lid?

Asked by: Barbara
No, the lid does not "lock". The lid will only snap in place when closed. However, the snap closure will not ensure the lid stays closed in any moderate to high winds. I have two of these, and I have to put an elastic cord with hook ends (Bunjee) across the lid to keep them from blowing open during rainstorms or high winds.

IS THE LID REMOVEABLE OR ATTACHED

Asked by: Anonymous
I have the older version of this can and yes, the lid is attached and removable but the tabs won't last long... at least if you have our refuse company :) My solution was to drill straight trough the handle and lid and install stainless steel hardware - long bolts with locking nuts. The cans lasted 20 years but the splits on the bottom at getting too big to keep repairing with duct tape :)

Roughneck 45 Gal. Black Wheeled Trash Can with Lid is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 448.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Flimsy This can is much too flimsy for daily/weekly use. It would be fine for wheeling out a few times per year for some big backyard BBQ... but don't plan on making this your daily driver. For starters, the lid doesn't line up with the can perfectly... so if you have stinky diapers like us it's going to smell like an outhouse within a few hours of trash day. Secondly, the plastic used to construct this is so flimsy I can crush the can with one hand. If you have trash trucks with robotic arms like us they're going to rip this thing to pieces. The wheels and the handle is nice I guess... but they hardly make up for the low quality plastic used.

Own several of these for about a year, and the lids were an issue pretty much from day 1. Horrible design. I would NOT suggest this item as a good option. Choose something else.

We wanted covers that were attached and could securely lock. Within one day, critter CHEWED a 6 inch hole into the side of the bin, leaving the cover securely intact.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great design and very practical! I personally love this trash receptacle for its practicality, lightweight and ease of use. There's some other things that give me reason to lower my rating. I don't think it was designed for the Arizona desert on a day when the outside temps are above 110 degrees. In our hot temperatures, the lid is way too flexible and becomes unattached consistently. I am constantly reattaching the lid. Part of that may be from the lid attachment design and I am adding some pictures to illustrate.

I saw this in the store and with words like "Built to Last" and "Virtually Unbreakable" I thought it might fit my use of rain water collection. Now I have to admit, I used it for something it probably was not designed for, but thought it might perform well with the above mentioned words on the product, but after I bought 7 of them, I found I was wrong. They did hold water for one year, but after that every single one of them split in exactly the same spot, which is the reinforcement ribs on the back of the can. I tried to repair them with duct tape and one of the flexible rubber sprays on the market. No luck.

I had it for a few years. However, the NYC sanitation men who pick up my garbage, were suddenly very unkind to my trash can. They picked up the can and slammed it onto the garbage truck, which eventually resulted in a cracked top and can. I purchased another one, line the can with a plastic bag and take the garbage out of the can for collection. Although, I always lined the can, I preferred, not taking the bag out because the pigeons, squirrels and other small animals would sometimes tear into the plastic liner and eat the food scraps.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Big size trash can that handle a great size amount of trash (o: The roughneck trash can is very useful for around the house jobs. I've used it for tree trimmings, trash from a couple of family parties and hauling wood mulch. It has a hand grip on the lower end by the wheels for easy lifting to empty out the can. The lid snaps into place which is pretty nice during the windy days. The trash can has a wide wheel base that allows to pull it with a good amount of weight on it. It's pretty durable but it tends to bend a bit at the top handle while hauling it and while trying to lift it by the hand grip on the bottom the mid section of the can folds a bit. It's not an industrial grade trash can but for a basic around the house duties it should conquer the task.

I like the trashcan, the size, the fact that it rolls nicely and easily, that it seems solid. I liked it a lot more at the beginning, though (a couple months ago) when the top stayed on. For some reason the connections from the top to the rest of the trashcan came loose, and it's very difficult for me to get the top to stay on, the connections won't stay together anymore, and now the top is constantly coming off, falling off. It's very frustrating when that's constantly happening. Don't know what to do.
