Product Overview

Rust-Oleum penetrating concrete sealer provides bare concrete with superior protection from the damaging effects of water, oil, chemicals and stains. Featuring a unique fluorinated polymer technology, rust-ileum penetrating concrete sealer deeply penetrates into concrete pores to form a protective barrier beneath the surface. I spent 2 weeks cleaning and scrubbing my new concrete garage floor so it is in pristine condition. I have two gallons and plan on using them (large garage) for one thick coat. Would I be able to put on a second thick coat several days later after it has thoroughly dried? I live in Minnesota.
Asked by: katy
You can't put on a thick coat. The product is thin like water and it soaks in. that's the intent. Yes you can put a second coat on in a couple of days. The dryness of the concrete slab is more important than the air humidity. So you need a dry slab that will suck the liquid down into the concrete.

will this product stop rising dampness coming thru concrete
Asked by: fly
It may. My garage floor seems dryer now. The best method of course is to put a vapor barrier such as 6 mil polyurethane sheeting under the concrete before pouring it.

can i use this product to seal hair line crack on concrete shower floor

Asked by: jclark1
Probably not. I'd suggest something thicker, something with some flexibility and non-hardening.

Firstly-you won't be able to paint the floor later ! ! !. Secondly, you need an absolutely clean floor. Best if put on a new concrete slab but if not, you'll need to vacuum the floor and the brush it vigorously with a stiff brush and a degreaser, vacuum up the wet and copiously rinse to remove the degreaser. I used a combination of TSP and Tide liquid detergent (for the surfactants). Worked very well but couldn't remove the oil down under the surface, nevertheless the surface was clean enough. Then let it dry for a couple of days. I applied the sealer with a paint roller with a 3/8" roller and a 5 gallon bucket. Added about a quart at a time to the bucket and ran the roller up and down on a paint grid to get it dryer than dripping. Rolled on nicely and went over it several time to make sure there was some wetness to all the area. Waited for it to dry for a day or two and added the second coat. It took it. So use it. For me this met all my expectations. The floor is much easier to keep clean, dust sweeps right up. Makes getting under the car much nicer. It took a little more than I expected to get it installed but it was worth it. Most of the difficulty was a result of having an old slab.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible Product I had a new drive poured this summer. Researched sealer products and purchased the Rustoleum brand based on the description and name recognition. Save your money and buy another brand. They claim it repels water, oil etc. My son came back from school and his car had a slight oil leak. This product didn't repel the oil. The oil bled through my new driveway. What a shame. I will never buy another Rustoleum product. They don't seem to care either because they never got back to me.
