Customer Questions & Answers

When and how to apply?

We are planning on 2 coats of colored epoxy and 1 toocoat of clear epoxy on our restaurant floor. We have some rain and lots of kids so want to be sure it is non stick. At which layers do I use this product and do I use it by mixing it in with paint and rolling or do I roll epoxy first and then sprinkle on top? Do I do the same for all 3 coats??
Asked by: David
We are happy to help you with this, David! We would need to know a little more about what product you're using exactly for your epoxy and clear. Generally, you're going to apply your epoxy, then Rust-Oleum Decorative Color Chips into the wet paint, and then the clear. Perhaps you can call us so we can walk through this with you. Please call us at (888) 683-5667 to discuss.

Will mop get caught on this?

Will the surface be such that a mop head might get more stuck on it? We have a restaurant and want epoxy floors with non stick quality but want it to feel relatively smooth (no skinned knees and easy to mop).
Asked by: David
I mop my garage floor once a month without any issues. When my floor first dried, I took a push broom and swept the entire thing twice which removed any partially stuck chips. After that, it was good to go. If you intend to also apply a clear coat (make sure and use the anti-skid additive), the chips will be covered by the clear coat and you would have no issues with the mop.

I installed this product on May 2014 according to the instructions. 2015 the floor was altered by what appears to be hot Tire Marks. These marks take off the product leaving the garage floor with bare places any where our vehicles are parked. It is very disturbing given the cost for a four car garage and the time to prep and pressure clean my garage. I purchased your product Rust-Oleum Gray Blend from Home Depot. I did not report this earlier when it took place but now it is ridiculous.
Asked by: Andy
That's odd, Andy. We would like to hear more about your experience and what you mixed Rust-Oleum Decorative Color Chips with. Feel free to give us a call at 888-683-5667 so we can try to make things right with you!

Can these chips be used with the Counter Transformation coating kits?

Can these chips be used with the Counter Transformation coating kits?
Asked by: Tom
No, Tom. Rust-Oleum Decorative Color Chips are too large for application with the Countertop Transformations kit. They will not dispense through the chip dispenser.

Customer Reviews

1 lb. Gray Decorative Color Chips is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Always Smart to Have an Extra Bag or Two on Hand You never want to run out while in the middle of doing your floor, so I highly suggest you pick up a couple of extra bags (you can always return them). Not only do the chips hide imperfections in the concrete and provide some "Pop" on the look, but they also help reduce how slippery the floor is when wet. They provide just a little bit of a rough surface which really helps if your floor gets wet! I tend to use extra chips instead of the other additive for this purpose as it looks better and essentially does the same job. Cheers!
