Customer Questions & Answers

Can it be used on glazed ceramic tile on a countertop if I prime it first or would I have to sand the tile?

Asked by: Jf
This paint will not hold up to counter top use. It will not have the impact resistance or abrasion resistance.

I have a cement bench ( factory finished ) under shelter that got damaged by the roofers by tar. They removed the tar and stained my bench. Would this texture product last and would it be alright to sit on it. Thanks in advance
Asked by: Lucy
Great question, Lucy! Our Stone Bleached Stone Textured Finish Spray Paint is only recommended for interior use, however, you can use our Multicolor Texture Spray on the bench: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Stops-Rust-12-oz-Multi-Colored-Textured-Caribbean-Sand-Protective-Enamel-Spray-Paint-6-Pack-239121/202058556

Can this be painted on a smooth plastic surface (like a tupperware bowl or a high chair) without any primer coating?

I'm trying to paint a smooth glossy finish plastic toy. I don't mind sanding the plastic for better bonding, but I don't want to buy a primer in addition to this. Will this alone work? The Rust-oleum website doesn't help.
Asked by: Nan
This can be painted on many smooth plastic surfaces but tupperware I do not know, maybe not if it is polyethylene or polypropylene. I have painted ABS and polystyrene. One need some polarity.

Can this be sprayed over wallpaper and on a flat painted surface?

Asked by: irishbruno
Yes, but the wall paper may not hold up if it is old and degraded.

Only downside is that it doesn't go very far. I would estimate that you get coverage of about 1/3rd of what a regular can of spray paint gets you.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Needs just a Little I previously bought this textured paint under the same brand and it had much more imbedded particles to give it a special effect of stone. This is by no means a low grade for Home Depot who gave great service all around.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice finish but poor coverage First off these American accent stone paints are expensive and coverage is limited. For large projects you will need several cans which can become very pricey. Also, surfaces must be prepped extensively because this paint goes on thick and dries very slowly. This is not your normal quick drying spray paint. PRIME your surfaces before you apply this paint or it will never dry and the paint will goop off. Because this paint sprays several beads of different textures/pigments at once, the spray nozzle can get jammed and/or not spray even. It's important to carefully aim this type of paint. All in all, when done properly, the finish is excellent and looks like a real high end stone look. Would I buy this paint again - yes but for only very special items because the finish is awesome. Otherwise this paint cost too much and covers too little to apply to cheaper surfaces. Use this diligently.
