Customer Questions & Answers

Can it be used on glazed ceramic tile on a countertop if I prime it first or would I have to sand the tile?

Asked by: Jf
Happy to clear things up! We do not recommend applying Rust-Oleum American Accents Stone Textured Finish Spray Paint on countertops due to the textured finish and the heavy cleaning countertops receive. If wanting to have your countertops look more like stone, check out Rust-Oleum Countertop Transformations Kits! http://www.homedepot.com/s/rust%2520oleum%2520countertop%2520transformations?NCNI-5&style=List&s_tnt=82648:1:0

Will this adhere to plastic? What additional prep would I need to do to use this product on plastic?

Asked by: KRIS
Rust-Oleum American Accents Stone Texture Spray Paint is not designed to adhere to plastic surfaces. The use of a primer such as Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 will assist in the adhesion. Please keep in mind, for best results, we recommend applying a base coat of a color that blends well with the stone finish. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Zinsser-Bulls-Eye-1-2-3-1-qt-White-Water-Based-Interior-Exterior-Primer-and-Sealer-2004/100398398

Can I use this on a fountain?

I have an older, faded and discolored polyresin fountain that I think would good with this product. If I prep the surface first and I use a clear finish after, will this product hold up being submerged in the bowl of the fountain.
Asked by: RandyFL
Unfortunately, Rust-Oleum does not have a product that can be submerged under water. The American Accents Textured Stone can be used on the outside of the fountain, but not in the bowl of the fountain.

I purchased this hoping it would cover a wicker plant stand that was originally spray painted metallic brown. We did use 2 cans of white spray paint over the brown first, but it still bled through in spots. So I bought the stone textured spray hoping it would cover, but it was even thinner than regular spray paint and didn't cover at all. Now the plant stand has tiny lumps all over it, which I can't remove. I will try using regular gloss paint over the texture to see if it will help. Lesson learned -- do a test first before using! By the way, the Rust-oleum metallic spray paints that I have used are wonderful.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Should be 4.5 Tried 4 colors and loved all but the bleached stone. It was fine, but a little chunckier and different to work with. Re-did some old Formica countertops with it; mixed with the gray one. Love it. Lightly sanded after each coat to knock texture down a bit, then polycrylic the heck out of it and it's good to go. Did one a year ago and still love it for a cheap remedy to and 80's counter.

Once I replaced the photos with pictures that I had taken of the beach environment, the frames came out wonderfully.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice finish but poor coverage First off these American accent stone paints are expensive and coverage is limited. For large projects you will need several cans which can become very pricey. Also, surfaces must be prepped extensively because this paint goes on thick and dries very slowly. This is not your normal quick drying spray paint. PRIME your surfaces before you apply this paint or it will never dry and the paint will goop off. Because this paint sprays several beads of different textures/pigments at once, the spray nozzle can get jammed and/or not spray even. It's important to carefully aim this type of paint. All in all, when done properly, the finish is excellent and looks like a real high end stone look. Would I buy this paint again - yes but for only very special items because the finish is awesome. Otherwise this paint cost too much and covers too little to apply to cheaper surfaces. Use this diligently.
