I started off with an 80 grit sandpaper. Washed entire surface. Sprayed self etching primer. Next day it was easily scratched off with my fingernail. So then I sanded it down again washed it then used denatured alcohol then sprayed it again next day same results. then I gave it one more chance I washed it denatured alcohol used vinegar then sprayed it again needless to say same results this product does not work for aluminum.

Followed the directions carefully - took a lot of time cleaning, prepping, and cleaning the metal, & applied multiple thin coats as described.
24 hours later, the primer easily comes off if I gently scratch the surface with my fingernail. Now I get the fun task of stripping off a bunch of shoddy primer before I get to start over with a different product.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JeepPower Great primer- I will not use anything else on steel
I am not sure how the person who gave this product one star got the results they did. As others have said, this primer is tough! As long as the temps are in the recommended range and it isn't raining, it dries fast. It will dry just fine at colder temps, it just takes more time (like any paint). Surface prep is always key with any paint. A quick wipe down with denatured alcohol or brake cleaner does wonders for adhesion.
I use this in my rockcrawler. This primer is the only retail product that I have seen that will stay on, even when the topcoat is scraped off by a rock or tree.
I've been using spray paint on automotive/Jeep applications for over 20 years. All other spray primers are a joke compared to this stuff. It is the only thing I will use.

I am restoring a 1951 M38 jeep and have literally primed many dozens of small parts that had been cleaned down to bare metal. I made sure to properly clean every part prior to priming and applied the primer in temperatures ranging from 56 to 100 degrees F. The primer always adhered, dried quickly, and made a great base onto which were applied the finish coats. A auto paint shop did the final spray on the major body parts and I finished the smaller parts like brackets and lamp assemblies.
Like the old lady who kissed a cow, we all have our own likes and dislikes and what is a feast for some is poison for others. To me, it is hard to beat this product and I had tried others- some costing more than twice as much!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by RednexToyz One of the hardest primers i've come across
I must say ... this is one of the hardest adhering primers I've come across yet. This is a good thing.....
I'm converting a utility box bed of a truck into a camper and the diamond plate steel bed was VERY rusty and flaky. I used a knot cup brush on an angle grinder to remove the rust. Cleaned the surface with Mineral Spirits, allowed to dry & sprayed the truck bed with this product in accordance to the instructions. Dried within a 1/2 hour and the next day I was able to move around on the surface. Chose this product as a basecoat for a roll on bed liner paint/product. Surface prep is key before application of this primer; clean, sand, clean & dry before spraying it on. Spray in the shade if possible. Lite coat followed by a heavier coat coat 5-15 minutes later. Took almost 3 cans to fully cover (with good coverage) a 4' x 8' area.
I tried to sand off some of this where I shot it onto an adjoining surface. Using an electric disc sander with fresh 120grit, this stuff was tough to try & sand off!!!! Just went and bout the remainder of the cans my local H.D. had in stock for another project.
Dried a greenish/grey color.

I use this primer on everything from car parts to tools and especially at work. A must when painting zinc plated and galvanized metal, which regular spray primer falls off of. Also good for spot priming over silicone caulk. If you can use spray paint, and properly prep and topcoat your surface, you won't be disappointed.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by HGVaddict Doesn't cure. WOULD NOT USE AGAIN!
I just read other reviews online after ruining our project with this product. It does not stay on and after allowing the suggested dry time, it can be wiped off with a wet paper towel. We waited an additional twenty-four hours and it is the same. It is powdery and comes out of the can spotty.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Phil Very durable finish
I've been using this primer for coating bare metal prior to top coating and have excellent results. It adheres very well to the metal surfaces of my jeep rock rails and the top coat has yet to wear through or flake off after using the rails for climbing up into the cab.
