Customer Questions & Answers

can you paint over this product

can you paint over this product
Asked by: hudson
Yes. Rust-Oleum Professional Truck Bed Coating can be painted over after a minimum of one week (how long it will take for this product to fully cure). We recommend always testing paint in an inconspicuous area first to test compatibility before applying it to the entire surface. Also, keep in mind your paint coating will not have the same durability as the Truck Bed Coating.

What is the functional difference between this and the spray not marked "professional grade" (item 248914 on the home depot site)??

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't last a month Followed instructions and prep work. Applied two coats. Barely lasted two weeks. I can peel it off with my hand.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Sprays Un-Evenly, Has a Medium Grey Tint, Scratches Easily, I was wondering why the local parts store had a $5 discount when you purchase 2 of these cans. Now, I know; they were trying to get rid of this overpriced junk. Sprays on very un-evenly, and once dry, it feels like sandpaper and takes on an unattractive medium grey coloring. The texture is rough and hard yet it still scratches very easily. After drying for hours in 90 degree sun and heat, I went to slide my bed mat in, it left long scratches all down the wheel wells. Not pleased. I was happy with Dupli-color brand on earlier projects. Never this one again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product! I purchased this product to cover my rocker panel on my pickup, I had previously applied a different brand of bed liner, which had faded and started showing my trucks white paint through the application. I sprayed Rust-Oleum "Truck Bed Coating" right over the other product and there was no issue with adhesion and the texture looks great! I had previously used this product to cover my gas cap over a year ago and have had no issues with fading or peeling. I liked this product so much I purchased another box of 6 to paint my bumpers and sliders. I have not tried this on a truck bed application, it does come out a little thin for what I would want protecting my trucks bed, and if you use your truck for work I would still recommend paying the money and having a company like Line-X spray the bed. However if you are using it to cover rock chipped or scratched rocker panels, bumpers, steps, or misc. truck accessories it is a great product! Make sure you purchase "Truck Bed Coating" over "Truck Bed Liner." "Truck Bed Coating" has a promise guarantee on the label that it will not chip or fade and that it is guaranteed not to peel.
