Our basement floor was painted probably 20 years ago and needs to be redone. Is this product for bare concrete floors only? Will we need a primer?
Also, are the color chips optional or already mixed in?
thanks

Answer:
You can apply the EpoxyShield over a previously painted floor, but you do need to make sure that the coating that is on the floor is adhering well. Any loose or flaking paint will definitely have to be removed. You also would want to test the adhesion of the paint to ensure that it is bonded well with the concrete. To test the adhesion of the remaining paint on the surface, do the following:

I plan on using this on the floor of my basement workshop. I like the high gloss finish of the garage kit. Is there a clear gloss to put over it?

Answer:
Yes, Rust-Oleum Premium Clear Floor Coating can be used over the Basement Floor Kit. However, it is important that pilot lights are off for 24 hours and proper ventilation is acquired since this product is solvent based.

The color came out really dark after it is dry. Is there any way to make it brighter ?

Answer:
That is odd! Rust-Oleum Epoxyshield Basement Floor Coating only comes in one shade of gray. You could certainly paint over it with another product as long as the coating has cured for 7 days. You'll need to sand the surface with 60 or 80 grit sandpaper also before applying a paint over it.

Can this product be used near a furnace or hot water heater? If not, how much clearance should be used between the edge of the epoxy and the furnace? Are the fumes flammable? Once the epoxy dries, are there any fumes?

Answer:
Happy to help Chris. Rust-Oleum Epoxyshield Basement Floor Coating Kit is a water-based epoxy finish. The fumes are not combustible. Be sure to have good air ventilation while applying the coating and while it is drying. Once the coating is fully cured it will no longer have any fumes or odor. Full cure is in 7 days.
