Customer Questions & Answers

Will this be suitable to waterproof a wool felt hat?

Asked by: rocky
Many wool surfaces contain oil that prevents coatings from properly adhering to the surface. For this reason, we do not recommend applying Rust-Oleum NeverWet Outdoor Fabric Spray Paint to a wool surfaces.

can i use neverwet on a tent

Asked by: Mark
Yes, you can if the tent fabric is NOT Nylon. The manufacturer does not recommend it to use on Nylon, since it makes it more flammable. Please see the attached pictures and instructions.

Can I use NeverWet on shower tile and grout?

I need to seal the bottom 2' of the walls of my shower. This would need to work for a year or more, until I can redo the shower tile. Please advise.
Asked by: BobW
no, it is a spray on waterproofer, doesn't seal at all. its more for boots, shoes coats; stuff you want rain to run off of, awnings, tents, etc.

Can i spray it on white shoes

My White Air Max Janoskis
Asked by: Isaiah
Happy to help, Isaiah! Rust-Oleum NeverWet Outdoor Fabric Spray is suitable for use on shoes. Please keep in mind that NeverWet may enrich light material with a slightly darker tone so we recommend applying in a test area first to ensure the desired results.

11 oz. NeverWet Outdoor Fabric Spray is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 39.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Ski clothing dry after heavy wet snow (all day exposure) I have a very old pair of ski bibs and an old rain jacket I ski in and this weekend was a really heavy wet snow up on Mt. Hood. I treated the garments the night before so they had roughly 15 hours to dry, less than the 24 recommended. The only thing I noticed is the smell from the spray, it is very strong and fragrant like overwhelming laundry. But whatever I just wanted to be dry! The treated garments performed very well and kept me dry all day. After about 5 hours there was some wetting on the surface of the ski bibs but it wasn't enough to soak through. I suspect that if the drying time was longer and maybe I would have treated the clothing with two coats prior to going into the elements it would have worked even better. My friends are eager to try NeverWet on their bikes/packs/motorcycles and I'm interested in using it on my commuter bike as it would be nice to have a dry bike to haul inside the apartment. All in all I'm very pleased with the product and will use it again but I wish the fragrance wasn't so darn strong. As long as your moving you don't notice it but soon as you stop moving you and others can smell it. Maybe I had a bad batch or maybe the other versions for boots and other things don't have the smell issue.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Loved the idea; can't wait until next year for waterproof effects. At age 86, I don't buy green bananas, so I was doubtful about spraying outdoor cushions for next year's warm weather season. Having said that, I was encouraged by the ease of using Neverwet, the lack of noxious odor, and the promise of a dry bottom come next Spring. My beautiful blue, white and yellow cushions appear none-the-worse for spraying. Time alone will tell. Suggestion: Instruction label under the peel-off label was difficult to access--some bits lost in removal--as well as dificult to read, which may or may not be age-related. (See above.) Sorry I can't supply photos.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It Works! I used NeverWet on my outdoor bench and glider cushions. The spray went on easily and did darken the fabric slightly. The bench and gliders are under the patio but in an area that catches spray from the sprinkler. The were always damp and the previous cushions were replaced because dampness and South Florida equals mildew. On the new set, I decided to invest in Neverwet and I am glad I did. The water is still rolling off after a month plus and I couldn't be happier. I don't have to put the cushions out in the sun to dry off anymore, this really has made my life easier. I

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does not work Purchased 3 bottles, which covered 4 cushion sets, front and back. Followed the directions, actually let them dry for a week before putting them outside. We had rain, and 4 days later the cushions are soaked. I have used Thompson outdoor fabric protector, which worked very well and kept the cushions dry all season. I will be using Thompsons from now on.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the job. I used this on the cushions of my patio furniture. The fabric is not a solid weave, but fairly porous so I was worried that it wouldn't seal well. It worked better than expected. After applying it, water now beads up and rolls off of the cushions. The spray did not affect the color or the feel of the fabric at all. The chairs get a lot of use, so after about 3 weeks the water stopped beading as well. I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did given the fabric. I will probably have to re-apply a few times over the course of a summer. Very happy with the results and would recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Blocks and repels water from fabric. I used the Rust-Oleum Never Wet Outdoor Fabric Spray to seal my slip-on canvass tennis shoes which--previously--had been allowing the dew from my lawn, excess spray from my hose nozzle and water from the rain puddles in my drive to soak my feet. I washed and dried the shoes, then followed the simple instructions for applying the product to the fabric parts of my shoes. With nominal drying time I,now, have water-proof shoes. I tried the product on my older fabric lawn chairs with excellent results. I even had to manually remove the rainwater from the middle of my outdoor lounger. What a great product! My soft, leather working boots are drying in the sun at the end of the patio and I am expecting excellent results with them, too!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good solution, especially for canvas shoes!! This is very easy to spray on the item and it smells fruity. I used it on 3 pairs of canvas shoes, it works well and goes on evenly. Don’t shake the bottle and make sure you spray it in a well-ventilated because although it smells nice, it is a strong smell. Depending on how much you spray on, it could take a couple of hours to dry and make sure to wipe off excess spray on any non-fabric parts, such as in my case with the canvas shoes, I noticed little bubbles on the rubber trim of the shoes so I had to lightly dab with a lint free cloth. I missed some bubbles after a few minutes of spraying the shoes and they were starting to dry already, so inspect the entire item before leaving it out to dry. Don’t let the solution bubble or puddle on the item. Before exposing the item to water, wait at least 24 hours. I’m happy with the results, the shoes are now water-proof and they won’t stain like they did without this solution. Especially my white canvas shoes, I had to wash weekly because every single little dirty wet drop of water ended up showing too well, but now I won’t have that issue.
