can this be used as sealer over colored spray paint? I spray paint whole coconuts and make wind spinners out of them and am looking for something that will give them coverage to hang outside.

Can this product be use no flexible surfaces like art paper or art canvases?

Asked by: Niko70
Not really, unless the flexible material was stretched out on a frame like a painting. This is a paint, not a stain. Any paint will crack, and peel off of a flexible surface. Hope this helps.

I sprayed my first coat on. It DOES NOT feel smooth. Why? What can I do???

Asked by: Lg
Clear coating is really tricky because it is hard to repair if you make mistakes. Only, because you can't do much without starting over. If you wet sand it down, you run the risk of messing up your under coat, but give it a try? Just work lightly so you don't have to repair the whole project. Always remember that when painting tread lightly. You can always add more, but too much is far harder to fix. Also, don't try to get every drop of paint out of a can. When it runs out, get a new one. The end of a can often splatters and makes your finish splotchy. You're better off with a fresh can that paints evenly. I'm not sure if I answered your question, but hopefully this helps? Good luck, and be patient.

Can this be used over a wooden chair that has been painted with a water based latex paint?

Asked by: TB
Yes. Not only will this spray over the latex paint, it will protect the paint from wear, and chipping.

I first used Deep Blue (from the same series of paint) to paint my entire computer case. Then used Semi-gloss White (again, same series) to paint snowflakes and snow all over the outside of the case. Both of these colors say to wait 48hrs for the paint to cure. I even waited longer before continuing. Although it took nearly 2 weeks to paint, everything was going well. Today, I applied a coat of this Gloss Clear to try protecting the paint. What a disappointment! The blue and white crinkled in several areas. I don't understand why this happened. All painting was done indoors, so sunlight and humidity had nothing to do with it. All my time spent painting was ruined by 1 coat of this.

Applying it on top of Rust-Oleum spray paint caused it to crinkle and it ruined the paint job on my project. In the past I had used it over some items I had painted with exterior house paint and there were no problems. Ironic that it proved incompatible with its own brand!

I used this high gloss paint on all of my newly finished woodwork prior to installation. Give the stained wood a quick coat, and let it dry, and It dries very quickly. Then I give the surfaces a light sanding with 220 grit sand paper. Then I give the woodwork pieces a second coat. The first coat of any paint soaks into, and seals the wood. The second coat gives the wood a beautiful shine. Stain gives wood character, and a coat of clear, gives it warmth. This spray paint is easy to use, and it covers very good. If you take your time, you can end up with a professional looking finish.

I applied to my weathervane which is stainless steel with a paint ontop to look copper and blue. The paint was chipped on the base when I bought it and it would look bad if it all chipped....so I bought this product and applied 3 coats. It has done well for a couple months in Florida with a bunch of rain, etc hitting it. The paint clears completely dry, so I'll add a new coat every 6 months or so. I want to make sure it is well coated. I would be devastated if my vintage looking weathervane turns into a shiny stainless steel dumpling!

Thank god I tested it on some scrap material before doing my actual project. Almost immediately the undercoat paint (also Rustolem 2x) started bubble and peel. Definitely did not have moisture in the base coat as its been painted and dried for almost a month now. I tried to shake the can more and try on other scrap but it did the same thing. I would NOT recommend this product at all. The project calls for layering paints so I'm really hoping I don't have this issue with the colored sprays.
