Customer Questions & Answers

I an trying to paint over a dry erase board can i use this?

Asked by: Kmizzy
Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch Ultra Cover Primer General Purpose Paint is recommended for use on bare or painted wood, metal, plaster, masonry or unglazed ceramic. Instead, we recommend Rust-Oleum Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Water-Based Primer which is an all surface primer and bonds to glossy surfaces without scuff sanding. http://www.homedepot.com/s/zinsser%2520bulls%2520eye?NCNI-5

How many coats of this primer must be used to cover a light wood grain cabinet?
Asked by: Pat
Happy to help, Pat! Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch Ultra Cover Primer is suitable for use over bare wood. We recommend using a good quality synthetic brush to apply light even strokes to ensure smooth and uniform flow. If additional coats are desired, we recommend recoating after 2-4 hours. If wanting to prevent tannin bleed, we recommend using an oil-based primer instead, such as Rust-Oleum Zinsser Cover Stain Oil-Based Primer! http://www.homedepot.com/p/Zinsser-1-qt-White-Cover-Stain-Oil-Based-Interior-Exterior-Primer-and-Sealer-3504/100398403

Nothing too fancy. Had a can of Rust-oleum Ultra Cover paint (Espresso color) that I used to pain the support poles, so I figured I'd use up the rest of the can. The support poles were primered when we bought the house. Took one coat and then a touch-up coat to finish up the support poles. Figured I would stick with Rust-oleum, since I liked the paint. I primed up my shelves (and the previously painted wall where the bookshelf is mounted with this product......wasn't real impressed with it's "fill" factor, but don't really care, since it is a cheap, pine bookshelf. I am now on my THIRD coat of paint trying to get even coverage over this primer, and it will require a 4th coat to get it to look good. At this point, I am just slapping paint on it, and hoping it won't run too much. Now, I'm not a professional painter, but I have painted bare wood before WITHOUT using any primer whatsoever, and THAT usually takes 3 coats. So, really, what was the point in using this product at ALL? Can't recommend it, and I won't ever use it again. Get Kilz or something else. This stuff is junk.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worked fine as a primer Seems to be a fine primer, I'm no expert. Use multiple coats, sand lightly in between to get the smoothest possible finish.
