Happy to help! Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch Ultra Cover Paint is suitable for use on metal surfaces that do not exceed temperatures above 200°F. If the surface exceeds those temperatures, we recommend Rust-Oleum Specialty High Heat Paint! Please keep in mind that the surface will need to be heated to well above 200°F to fully cure the coating. http://www.homedepot.com/s/rust%2520oleum%2520specialty%2520high%2520heat?NCNI-5

I should have checked the reviews before buying but it was recommended by a Home Depot associate. It's super thin and as others stated it lifts as you're brushing. In addition, since it's so thin it dries very fast and if you just ever so slightly brush over a spot you just painted a minute before, it leaves a dull spot in the final finish. In addition, coverage is horrible. Normally this isn't a big problem and just requires more coats. But after letting it cure for 24 hours, I went back to add another coat and it left dull spots where it touched other areas that didn't need additional coverage. Wish I could return this as it's a waste of money. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money to get a higher quality paint.

It misleads leads the consumer to believe its a product that delivers with a "one-coat" application. Read the other reviews. I wish I had. I had just finished building some new living room furniture using only premium lumber. All surfaces were sanded to a beautiful finish and thoroughly wiped with a tack rag. I next applied Rust-oleum Painters Touch Primer per the instructions. After waiting 24 hours I "lightly" sanded the primer coat because "being water based" it had a tendency to lift the wood fibers. Then I wiped it down with a tack cloth again. Upon opening the can the first thing I found odd... is the paint in the can and when wet, is Navy Blue not black. However, it dries black so that wasn't not a problem. Application was disappointing. I knew I made a mistake within the first couple brush strokes. Coverage was anything less than Ultra. NOTE: I wouldn't call it this product "thin" like other reviewers have. The paint has body I would describe as thick like most latex paints. The problem that leads most reviewers to described it as "thin" is you certainly won't be able to cover anything in one coat, and only two coats if you are lucky. It just doesn't flow very well and even the very first brush strokes have a tendency to pull the paint from the surface so you see bare wood in the brush strokes. FYI: Per the cans recommendation I was using a "premium" synthetic brush. The second coat covers a little better. However... before applying the third coat it became evident I would have to sand it down again. After sanding, followed by a tack rag I applied a third coat. After the third coat dried it didn't look too bad, but brush strokes were still evident. It doesn't flow real well. I applied it when the temperature was only 65 degrees F, so the problem wasn't the heat causing it to dry too fast before it had a chance to flow. (I wish I would have tried adding some Flood Floetrol to the paint so see if it would have delivered smoother results.) Anyway... even though the cans instructions state "roller application is not recommended" I decided to try it anyway to see if I could get better results. I selected an ultra fine roller specifically designed for ultra smooth finishes. What a disaster! This paint DOES NOT roll well at all. Even worse than a brush it has a tendency to lift the paint off the surface as you roll it on leaving microscopic bubbles in the surface of the paint. I had to ditch the roller and go back to the brush. In retrospect, to get the desired finish I probably should have "sprayed" painted the furniture. Knowing what I do about the issues I had using this paint I imagine it might deliver better results if sprayed. NET: The final finished project looks okay but not great, not the beautiful furniture store finish I had imagined. The good news is it has a rich black color that mimics the same piano black color found in store purchased furniture and is "relatively" smooth for a brushed finish. That said, its limited inability to flow, the necessary sanding between coats and its inability to cover unless you use multiple coats will prevent me from recommending this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works on metal and wood WELL, plus even smooth plastic OK! I have used this outdoors and indoors on metal, wood, and plastic for a few years now. It covers well often with only one coat, and takes a few years to crack out in the tough elements here in the Northwest. A quick touch up re-sealed the cracks. On my plastic it did not do as well but it was smooth and I did not expect much but was pleasantly surprised. If I had sanded the plastic surface first I bet it would be as good as the metal and wood. Indoors it is like any latex paint and will last for many years. Note that it says to brush it on! It self levels and starts to set up the gloss or semi gloss quickly so if you over brush you could leave brush marks. Rolling would probably do the same and leave a textured surface. I have not tried spraying it but spraying would probably work with adequate thinning because it is a thick brushing "Ultra Cover" consistency. If I were going to spray I would use their non water based paints instead. I like it - and have no connection to the company! I have added a picture on Metal, wood, & plastic before retouching after a tough wet winter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product is my go-to I use this product for EVERYTHING! Because of its coverage of just about any surface, I have used this product with flawless results on furniture, vanities, doors, shutters, metal trim...you name it. I usually use satin, but this was all that was available the last time I went shopping for it - so I gave it a try. I absolutely love the sheen on my shutters and my interior doors and the added durability is perfect for my bathroom vanity. It's not an overpowering gloss but has a very nice sheen. It looks fantastic and is incredibly durable. I've never seen a chip or scratch and we are not particularly gentle with our home! I use Panter's Touch for everything that isn't a wall and I have never had a complaint. Best part - soap and water clean up. It also stays for a very long time if you wrap your wet brush in plastic wrap or a baggie - I've kept it for up to 2 weeks and used the brush with no problem when I picked back up on the job.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from About half usable I have used numerous Rustolium products over the years always with very good results, so I was very surprised to find that this paint was such poor quality. I brought it home (75 miles) shook it, opened it stirred it and found that most of the can was one lumpy mess. I again stirred, stirred and stirred, but most lumps remained. I eventually found some old window screen and poured it through into another container. About half of the paint was unusable. I would have returned it, but I was committed to my project and could not make a 150 mile round trip. The portion that I used seems to be okay so far. Time will tell if it lasts as long as it should. In summary: Stay away from these Rustolium latex products.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Inferior -- shocked it is a Rust-Oleum product! The negative reviews have summed up my own experiences with this stuff: it's too thin, it rolls up under brush strokes, streaks, takes multiple coats to cover, actually separates on the surface to which I've applied it, and leaves anything but a smooth surface. As an amateur woodworker and yard art / sign-painter I have used and trusted Rust-Oleum products for years and simply cannot believe Painter's Touch Ultra cover is a Rust-Oleum product. I know how to prepare paint and how to sand, prime and sand prime coats, etc. but this paint actually ruined some projects I was doing. I won't return it to Home Depot because I CAN use it for some rough backyard board projects, but will not ever buy this stuff again, and will check user reviews of all Rust-Oleum products before future purchases.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Won't buy again I didn't want to give a 1-star because i didn't go through the hassle of sanding my piece of furniture prior to applying the paint. But, I think regardless of what I had done prior, this went on extremely thin. After 3 coats and still not having the coverage I was expecting, I quit using it and went another route for my project. Probably won't ever use this product again.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Hard to work with. Thin and drippy, doesn't cover well, hard to work with. Open time is extremely short; you have about 30 seconds to smooth out your strokes before it starts skinning and dragging the brush. This forces you to paint fast, and makes drips almost impossible to avoid. Final finish is fragile and can be scratched away with a fingernail. I wish I'd bought something else. Definitely would not buy again. On the plus side, it's so insubstantial that it washes out of the brush almost immediately, so there's that at least.
