Can I use this paint on a wall?

Can I use this paint on a wall?
Asked by: june
We like how you think, June! Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch Ultra Cover Paint can certainly be applied to drywall as long as you use a primer first. We recommend using Rust-Oleum Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer Paint, which is an excellent, all-around primer. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Zinsser-Bulls-Eye-1-2-3-1-gal-White-Water-Based-Interior-Exterior-Primer-and-Sealer-2001/100398391

Can you apply polyurethane as a top coat over this?

We are looking to apply a good paint that has the ability to accept poly after it dries. It is for a dining room table top. Thank You
Asked by: Josh
Water-Based polyurethanes typically cause a white paint to yellow. We're afraid that if you used any polyurethane over Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch Ultra Cover, you'll experience these results. We recommend Rust-Oleum Ultra Cover Gloss Clear. We recommend a test area to ensure desired results are acheived.

Can this paint be used in the bath tub

Asked by: Tamy
Great question Tamy! We do not recommend Rust-Oleum Painters Touch Ultra Cover for an application to a bath tub. Immersion in water is a very aggressive environment paint. Most Rust-Oleum products are not intended to be underwater and will peel, blister, or show rust in a very short time. Instead, we recommend Rust-Oleum Specialty Tub and Tile Refinishing Kit for your project. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Specialty-1-qt-White-Tub-and-Tile-Refinishing-Kit-7860519/202246270

Do I need to apply a primer coat prior to application of this product?

Asked by: john
A primer coat is not required before applying Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch Ultra Cover General Purpose Paint. However, the use of Painter’s Touch Primer provides a sound base for topcoat adhesion and is especially recommended for bare wood and metal. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Painter-s-Touch-32-oz-Ultra-Cover-White-Primer-General-Purpose-Paint-Case-of-2-224430T/204823000

Customer Reviews

32 oz. Ultra Cover Semi-Gloss White General Purpose Paint is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hard to beat! I was hesitant to use this on my windows trim in our bathroom, but after a month, it hasn't peeled and protects the wood trim very well from water. Water never directly touches the sill, but the spray does and moisture. Water beads off and the paint lives up to the Rustoleum name. I have used many rustoleum products for projects that needed a rattle can, or the enamel for my boat trailers. Always I am pleased with their products performance. This was a first using paint for my home, and I couldn't be more pleased. The white is nearly what Kilz white is, so it's a very true white paint. Looks exceptional and it was straight from the Quart. I recommend this product to anyone looking to paint trim, lawn furniture or various other projects. It covers very well!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice results! I recently painted the ceilings on my first floor. When they were finished I realized the ceiling vents and recessed light canisters needed some sprucing up. Not only did they look dull/gray/yellow next to the ceiling white, some were a little worn. I'm not ready to install new lights yet, so I decided to paint them and the vents for now. I have always had good luck with rustoleum products so I decided to try this one. I did use 2 coats, altho I think one would have been enough. I just didn't like the first coat because I used a paint brush and you could tell. So the second coat, I ran over them with a little roller and the finish is much better looking. Now the vents & recessed lights look just as fresh as the ceiling and it was just what was needed to make everything look finished. Overall I am really happy with the results. I did buy 2 cans so that when I get to the upstairs, the whole house will match. But one can is probably enough, because one coat really is enough. I'm sure I will find other uses for this paint tho so too much is not a problem! I do recommend it and the price is really a good value. I have included before and after pix. Read the directions on the can and follow them. You won't be disappointed. :O)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Product for Price Bought this product to use to apply paint where this surface had chipped on some inside window and door frames. Brown paint that was underneath the current semi-gloss white was visible in several places in two rooms. With little preparation, the Rustoleum paint was easy to apply and covered well with two coats using an inexpensive 1" chip brush. Dries quickly and did not have a paint odor. I am very pleased with this purchase and would recommend this paint to others.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Got the Job Done, But Will Try Something Else Next Time I used this paint to refinish a wall cabinet for a bathroom. I needed a smooth, brushstroke-free finish and this paint was recommended by a few bloggers for painting furniture. The paint is very thick, and dries pretty quickly. This made it kind of difficult to get a smooth finish. I started with a chip brush, but quickly switched to a foam brush which worked much better. A foam roller probably would have worked the best. I ended up kind of having to glop it on to get it to stay workable long enough for me to get even coverage and smooth it out. I was painting outside and the paint in the can started getting a skin on top at one point since the sun hit it, so make sure you are not in direct sunlight or it will dry very quickly. It got the job done, but I feel like I could have used any white latex paint and gotten the same results. I'll finish using what's left in the can, but I'll probably water it down a little but to get a smoother application. Next time, I'll probably just get a basic white, latex paint.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Pretty Disappointing in this I'd say I'm fairly experienced with refinishing furniture. I usually use a sprayer but for a little dresser for my daughter's room, I decided to go with a brush on paint. I sanded the piece down to bare wood, used a sanding sealer and then 3 coats of primer, sanding lightly with 220 grit between each coat. The finish was paper smooth when I began applying the color coat. But the stuff is so thick and gummy that after one or two passes with a brush, even with a very light coat, it starts to dry to the point that it gets tacky and if the brush touches it at this point, you end up with a gummy sticky mess. I tried adding varying amounts of water to make the paint more viscous but with no luck. The only redeeming quality is that it dries hard enough that after about a week, I was able to sand the finish with 220 grit sand paper and get the problem areas smoothed out. Now I need to find another paint to do the top coat with that won't react negatively with this stuff. Why in the world they think it needs to be this thick and dry this quickly is beyond me. I can't image that any other paint wouldn't have been better for this project.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from First and last time using this paint! I tried this product based on reviews alone. I had high hopes for that "Factory finish" Rust-Oleum boasted about on their website. It was virtually impossible to achieve a smooth finish. I tried using a foam roller, then a high quality brush but was disappointed with the finish both times. I sanded down my dresser, thinned out the paint with water as directed and attempted a third coat, but it looked just as bad as the first two coats. I will not be using this paint again! The only good thing about this paint was that it dries to a hard finish.
