I am refinishing a desk. The paint is not a white paint but a gray white. I have three coats on the desk. The paint has worked fine but is not a white. Can I spray over this with a pure white paint?

Answer:
Semi gloss just means the bright shine vs a mild shine. Color as to white will differ by brand. Pure white is usually a base

To protect yourself from this catastrophe I have used the following method. Several extremely light coats of a water clear semi gloss lacquer to create a protective shield over your existing paint, (so light they are almost dry when they hit the surface). Allow to dry overnight, then apply light coats of your topcoat paint. Rustoleum is notorious for bad reactions with other paints, something in the chemical makeup. Water clear is important as lacquers tend to amber with age. Patience is the key. Read Less

Are you sure that you mixed the paint thoroughly?

Answer:
That is odd. It is likely that the Rust-Oleum Ultra Cover Paint is appearing a gray-white because of coverage. Yes, it is okay to add another coat of spray product over this paint. If it has been more than a week since the previous coat, be sure to sand with an 180 or 220 grit sandpaper for best adhesion.

"White" is relative to everyone, and it can come in infinitesimal forms. Also, lighting can greatly affect the color. But, the white you have on there now can be covered by another brighter white.
If you lightly sand the existing finish, you can reapply a brighter white. Typically Behr has the brightest white we sell as is, called ultra pure white. Use it, and you won't have the 'white' issue, as you Read More

Answer:
As long as the paints are compatible (for example, both water based) you can use a small amount of another darker paint to alter your color. Just how good your color eye is will be critical in the outcome. Purchase a color wheel from an art store to help you. And mix small batches keeping the ratio of light color to how much darker color added to written down to help your progress.

Answer:
Depends on the color that you want to achieve. You can add another color of the same time paint. However, it will be very difficult to achieve the exact color you want. Remember, paint usually dried darker than it appears when it is wet.

32 oz. Ultra Cover Semi-Gloss White General Purpose Paint (Case of 2) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 36.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good for the price... The paint coverage was about average. I was hoping that the name "Ultra Cover" was a more accurate description of the paint. We needed 2 coats to cover over a darker paint - the first coat dried with small cracks. Would probably be fine over a light colored paint or over primer. The price was right.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good price and product Paint was as expected, some areas needed 2nd coat, but went on relatively well. dried quickly, but lifted if area was gone over too soon (had some rippling). .learning curve with the application. 2nd surface painted went better.
