Does this product produce an amber tone?

Asked by: George
It does. Nothing major but does deepen the wood tone and add a slight amber hugh

Ok for steps or too slippery?

I'm putting oak stair treads in but obviously don't want the steps so slippery that they are dangerous.
Asked by: Mike
You should be fine.

Would this give antique heart pine floors an amber color?

Asked by: Pinefloors99
sure will. It won't be anything like a stain or dye would do but it will deepen the color plus the poly has a natural amber tone to it.

I first tried the Minwax super fast-drying polyurethane because I was on a time crunch and thought the advertised "Super Fast-Drying" and the "No need to sand" between coats would be quick and easy. Learned my lesson, floors took longer to dry and had tons of bubbles. Had to sand it back down and start over so I went with the old Rust-O that I have used before with great results. Did not let me down this time either. My floors came out great and even though it's not advertised on front, it's in the directions, if you apply a second coat with-in 8hrs you also don't need to sand between coats. I would still recommend at least sanding the first coat to knock down any burrs and just even things out to set up a good foundation for following coats.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Parks Pro polyurethane I used semi-gloss oil-based Parks Pro on a new red oak floor several years ago. It was easy to apply with a lambskin applicator and went on evenly and easily. I applied 3 coats - 2 would have been fine, but the applicator I used for the second coat was shedding and left fine wool fibers all over. A light sanding and a third coat and all was well. The floor has held up very well and still looks great! As with any oil-based polyurethane, there is a high odor, so plan to ventilate while using and allow several days drying time before using the affected area.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product DO NOT RUSH flooring... I recently inherited an old house built in the 40s with red oak hardwood floors. The floors had been redone in the 60s using paste wax and after all the years had developed an awful finish. Dull and ugly we decided to redo the floors. We drum sanded stripping off all the years and damage, vacuumed the dust and wiped with mineral spirits. We then stained with oil base red oak stain from Minwax. We let that dry overnight. Next came the poly. Open up all your windows and place a fan facing out, the fumes were not that strong but stay ventilated. Stir the poly I had some cans that needed more stirring than others. After brushing the floors with a tack cloth (Use this to get the little particles) we cut in the edges with a brush... went on nice, with the grain. We used a lamb's wool applicator (buy as many for as many coats you want to put on, don't think you can reuse these-they have refills but meh). Went on easy, it leveled out pretty well. I used the glare to catch high spots. First coat, dried in about 4 hours and I was able to walk on it the next day, still a little tacky but didn't leave any marks. Second coat went on faster but went through more poly for some reason. Second coat dried FASTER (air was dryer and maybe the weather was a little warmer). I could walk on it less than 10 hours later....beautiful!! I was so scared this would dry sticky and it didn't. I've VERY pleased. Whole process took about 7 days, but if the floor isn't right then why try making everything else nice. Put more time in the floor, it's worth it. P.S. the finish is durable, but all poly will scratch if you run 200 lb furniture over it. Invest in pads for heavy furniture.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clear Semi-Gloss Polyurethane To be perfectly honest, I first bought this brand ONLY because it was the only polyurethane left on the shelf at HD that offered me THREE gals., for which I needed. The other polyurethanes were all gone or had a can of the satin-finish left, for which I did not want. I bought (3) gallons of the "PRO" brand and wondered if there would be a huge difference. I had just completed installing wood flooring and didn't want to end up refinishing it again in a year or so. I have to say that my experience with this product was great. It covered well and really looked beautiful. I applied the finish to the floor with a wide, high quality brush in 2 heavy coats. The unit was empty so the heavy chemical odor wouldn't be a problem. It took about 3-4 days (one window open) before the odor dissipated enough to enter the place, Besides, I wanted the coats to completely cure, but that heavy odor is typical of any floor finish. So far, it's holding up well in areas of heavy foot traffic. Although price was not my motivation for buying this brand, it was indeed a savings.
