Customer Questions & Answers

How long does it take to be completely dry (put furniture back)?

Asked by: Jamie
Can says 14 days. Used a fan to speed up drying, particularly in closets and areas of low air movement. Furniture like wooden chairs will scuff if returned within a few days. I put small squares of hardboard (smooth side down) under furniture feet after about 4 days. My family couldn't wait any longer to get their rooms back.

Can this be applied on bare wood floors without using a stain

Old carpet was recently removed in the living room and dining room and I am wondering if this product can be applied over the clean wood floor.
Asked by: CoachM
Yes, I used it on an "Honey"oak floor. It creates a rich amber color with a few coats. Not dark, just warm. It will be darker with more coats, and thickness. I thinned first coat with thinner @ 15%. I used un-thinned for following coats.

Any suggestions on how do I STIR a 5 gal. Bucket of this polyurethane?

I purchased the 5 gal. bucket and it states stir before use, and I'm assuming stir before it leaves the container. One more questions, whats the difference between this in 350 VOC?
Asked by: dawn911
Just use a large paint stick. Make sure all the solids are completely dissolved prior to applying finish.

How do I apply this to my floor since spraying is not recommend?

Asked by: Raena
It recommends that you use a lambs wool roller cover, and roll it on, or brush it on. I rolled it on, then used a 5 inch brush on a pole to brush it smooth. I had to do this alternating a step at a time. The results were great. I had in the past tried either rolling or brushing. Rolling leaves a little of a pattern ( it does settle a bit ). Brushing is very time consuming. This method is quicker and the brush strokes are long and they smooth out invisibly. I recommend sanding lightly with 220 in between coats. Good luck!

Satin finish looks great, and does not highlight all sanding flaws as does the gloss. Rolling and immediately following with brush on poll makes application smooth and easy. Light sanding with 220 grit paper between coats makes next application much easier and finish smoother. Using fan to promote air movement shortens curing time significantly. Complete cure time is specified as 14 days. Thinned first coat, and used unthinned for next three. Four coats of the satin finish look great and provide good protection. Used small hardboard squares (smooth side down) under furniture to protect floor when returning to rooms earlier (2-3 days). Polyurethane produced a very hard finish. Harder than the varathane or the Swedish finish. I removed all three types. A great finish begins with a well done stripping and sanding. I used a drum sander, band sanders, and finishing sanders, with 24, 60, and 120 grit. Make the floor smooth and consistent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product at a great price! I am very pleased with this clear satin oil-based polyurethane. It dries overnight and ready for recoat. I applied oil-based stain and three coats of poly on approximately 1000 s.f. of sanded oak floors. It took about 7 gallons which equates to 425 s.f. per gallon. I recommend a light screening (sanding) with 80-120 grit screen after the first coat of poly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than expected Took carpet out of my house to reveal very neglected oak hard woods from the 1960s. After much work and sanding used this poly with lambswool applicator. Put 3 coats total and sanded with a 180-220 grit screen buffer after 1st. Waited a day or more between coats. Ventilated with box fan. Took 5.5 gallons total to do about 1000sq ft. Looks great, fiancé impressed! I waited 11 days to put furniture on and it took 15 days for smell to go away.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb Quality - Amazing Price - Ez to Apply After shopping all day for Varnish for our floors. We could not believe how expensive this stuff is. Prices ranging from 35.00 a gallon to 113.00. When we got home, I went online hoping to find something more in our budget. after just a few google searches this product popped up from The Home Depot - Online. It was exactly what we were looking for a Professional grade Polyurethane at a price we could afford. It was easy to order and was shipped to us in just a few days and was so easy to put down on the floors and the finish is truly awesome. Our home is over 100 years old but our floors look brand new. Thanks to The Home Depot and The Home Depot - Online
