Customer Questions & Answers

Can this product be used on interior walls of drywall and/or plasterboard?

Asked by: Will
Likely, but other paints would perform better. Rust-Oleum seems to work best on metals.

Do I use a primer?

I'm going to spray a horse trailer. I've used Ospo on the rust. Do l need a primer? How many coats best?
Asked by: Cia
I definitely used a "high build" primer on my automotive DIY.

if using to paint a new wooden table, what should I use for primer first?

Asked by: ra1708
I would pressure wash the table first, use original oil based KILTZ after it dries for a day in the sun, use 2 coats of the gloss enamel , apply about 1 hour apart (allow the primer to dry over night)- if you don't apply the second coat the same day, sand the 1st coat with 220 grit sandpaper to give the surface some achor profile (the "soft' 1st coat will allow a chemical bond) Happy painting, you shouldn't have to recoat for 20 years

Airplane painting

I am considering using this paint for a fiberglass experimental airplane project. The project has been filled and primed for a very smooth surface. I have used the spray can product with great results for small parts like spinners and wheel pants. I have use Imron in the past for painting such projects, but the results were not as good as I would like and the cost is crazy now. Also I live in CA so it is not even available. Your product looks great when sprayed and seems to last for years. Do you see any problems with possible fuel exposure around vent areas and does this paint have some flex in it? Thank you
Asked by: Martin
no - not on aircract, it won't meet FAA regulations

This you won't believe --- I got quotes from Auto Body Shops to paint one of my trucks and the numbers were in the $2500-$4000 range so I opted to DIY using Rust-Oleum's White Gloss Protective Enamel. Purchased 2 gallons along with some Acetone (total cost for materials at Home Depot was approx $70) and set up a "plastic sheet paint booth" inside my warehouse. I used a gravity fed HVLP gun (older Devilbiss) and wet sanded (P320-P1500 grit) between coats to remove orange peel, other imperfections and the job turned out surprisingly professional looking. If you're not afraid of the in between coat wet sanding, you might try this at home --- had I not done the wet sanding between coats I suspect the project would look "amateurish". Great product for the DIY'r.

Therefore it took a lot more than I was expecting to use. I had to buy another gallon when one should have been enough. Once cured, it seems tough, but with 3 coats, it should be. I like the high gloss and the pure white color. It was not as expected for a moderately priced oil based enamel paint.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best High Preformace Enamel I was a N.A.C.E. trained inspector for 10 years, after leaving the "Oil Field" and starting my own business, I already knew what to look for in a "High Performance Enamel"- Rustoleum is the "Top of the Line" for long lasting and VERY High Quality products, metal or wood (prime differently) this is a 20+ year coating, I use 2 coats over properly prepared surfaces

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product delivers what is expected on initial usage. The components of this product delivers just as described. There were certain jobs the contractor managed and others I did individually. So being a first time user I was excited upon the product's handling and outcome. I was so proud of what I had accomplished.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT PAINT PRODUCT! We used this at our condo association in order to paint the exterior doors to all of our units - the paint went on easy - we used the little 2" rollers to apply - dried to a beautiful white glossy look - and cleaned up easily - would highly recommend this product!
