Questions & Answers

We are trying to decide whether to use 4X or 10X. There are cracks in some boards, not major though.

Also, does the 4X have the same color & texture as the 10X?
Asked by: Elsie
You've come to the right place, Elsie! Rust-Oleum Restore 4X Deck Coat is recommended for newer to moderately weathered surfaces and helps conceal hairline cracks. Rust-Oleum Restore 10X Advanced Deck and Concrete Resurfacer is recommended for use on heavily worn decks and fills 1/4" cracks. Both products can be tinted to one of the same 60 colors. The Restore 10X Advanced will have more of a texture than the Restore 4X. http://www.homedepot.com/s/restore%252010X?NCNI-5

can you apply restore 4x over a patio that's been covered with 2 coats of 10x about 3 years ago to change the color
Asked by: pingpong
Great question! Yes, you can apply our Restore 4X Dune Deck Coat over our Restore 10x product. We recommend cleaning the surface well, then priming the surface with a single coat of our Restore Deck Start Primer prior to applying the Restore 4x: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Restore-1-gal-Deck-Start-Wood-Primer-301233/206869729

Can the Restore 4x or 10x be applied over old paint?

Asked by: Dean
Hello Dean! Thank you for your question. If the paint is not peeling and if it is not shiny, than this can be painted over paint. If the current paint is peeling, you will want to sand or scrape the surface. If the paint has a shine to it, the best thing to do it strip off the paint. However, if that isn't possible, scuff and sand the surface. Have a great day! Christine

Can Restore 4 X be applied over Thompsons Sealer?

Asked by: pc0320
It is suggested to remove previous coating for best results. Please review prep video: http://www.rustoleum.com/Rustoleum/pages/homeowner/how-to-videos/restore-projects/
