Customer Questions & Answers

Can you use crack filler with composite decking boards?

Have saw cut in new composite decking and would like to fill, sand and stain / color to match
Asked by: mistakes1atatime
We do not recommend using Rust-Oleum Restore Crack Filler for Concrete and Wood on saw cuts. Saw cuts are designed to allow the wood to move and not crack, which will also allow moisture to move through the cracks, even if filled.

Is this available in Falls Church store?

none
Asked by: Louis
Hi Louis, I don't believe you can by the Restore Crack Filler at ANY Home Depot Store at this time, it is only available on line, which doesn't make a lot of sense to me. If you go into your local Home Depot, and talk to someone at the service counter, they can assist you in ordering it using the store computer. Or you can just do it from home. I also think if you have it sent to the store and pick it up, you're not charged delivery.

10 fl. oz. Crack Filler for Concrete and Wood is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 21.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good stuff This is essential when using the Restore products. This material is easy to use and cures to a stronger bond than normal caulk. I am using it with the vertical siding Restore to fill in cracks and where boards intersect to minimize cracks. I have bought a lot of it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent product, I would definetly recommend it. The Rustolem Restore filler is an excellent product, it definetly does what it is supposed too. This product is not like some latex caulk, it dries more like a concrete. The directions say to use a cloth and wipe away the excess, I would recommend using a small bucket of water and a cloth to wipe the excess away. It dries very hard after ahile and using the Rustoleum Restore X4 I can't tell where the filler starts and the wood begins. Great product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Should be sold in the store This is a great product for filling the cracks in the driveway before using the restore concrete. However it should be sold in your stores rather than just on line. We only purchased two and didn't realize how much we actually needed. So the wait time for shipping again was not good for the down time, so we used an alternate product that the store recommended. It was not as good of a product as the restore brand. We actually should have ordered 7 tubes instead of two. Good product, just need to sell in the store instead of waiting for shipment from Georgia.....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product I really like the simple process for ordering online and free pickup at the store. The product was used to fill cracks in a pressure treated wood support for our deck. While the color is not a perfect match,it was easy to apply and smooth. Good precept if it holds up!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Completed My Prep Work Arsenal This was used during the prep work prior to applying the Restore sealer to my deck. It was not available anywhere locally so I ordered 3 tubes online through the HD website. I had a 20 year-old deck that was in bad need of a facelift or makeover, if you will. This caulk/crack-filler was used to fill in the cracks, knot-holes, larger splits and generally anywhere I needed to make the deck smooth(er) and even. It did an excellent job and was easy to apply. Beside a caulking gun I used a disposable putty knife to spread it out and press it into the cracks and that's all I did and all I needed. I'm applying the Restore Deck Sealer tomorrow so the final outcome is TBD. The dark reddish spots in the photo below are where I primed the screws and nail heads so I wouldn't get any rust spots bleeding through. Not sure it was necessary but didn't want to take any chances in my prep work.
