How do I repair bubbles on deck coated with restore 10X? What do I do before applying 2nd coat after inital has been on 3 weeks?

Asked by: sassy
Hello! Thank you for your question! I talked to Rust-Oleum and the gentleman I spoke with said that there is an adhesion issue. He suggested that, wherever the bubbles are, sand the paint off with course sandpaper (60 grit). Then, patch it with Restore. If this does not work, please call Rust-Oleum technical support at 1-877-385-8155. As long as the weather is above 50 degrees when you apply the second coat, the only thing you will have to do it make sure that the surface is clean and dry. If the temperature drops below 50 degrees, you will have to wait until the temperature rises. Christine

can restore be used on painted concrete

Asked by: Anonymous
Restore will adhere to a previously painted surface if properly prepared. All peeling or flaking must be removed by stripping or sanding. Remove any algae, mold or embedded dirt. Glossy surfaces must be sanded. Surfaces that have been previously coated with a stain or water sealer that continue to bead water will require pressure washing or stripping to ensure good adhesion.

Customer Reviews

4-gal. Driftwood Deck and Concrete 10X Resurfacer is rated 2.7 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A product that does what it says! I read tons of reviews before purchasing this product. The day I went to pick it up from HD, a gentleman at the counter before me said that it really worked, so I was excited to try it. I applied it to a 140 year old tongue and groove porch that was cupped and splintering everywhere. I scraped as much of the old finish off prior to starting and followed the directions. It worked just like it advertised it would. Awesome.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Product Quality I purchased this product from Home Depot in August and I spent ~ 7 days preparing the concrete deck surface. I used 3000 psi pressure washer with the yellow (Paint removal tip) and I manually scrubbed with the Deck and Concrete cleaning. After the multiple days and many hours of pressure washing and scrubbing, all of the loose paint had been removed and no other paint was coming off. The next day I purchased all of the product from HD and swept the surface with a broom to remove any dust. After sweeping, I used compressed air to give it one last final blast to asure th surface was clean. I then put the first coat on. The next day I put the second coat on. I set up a temp. construction fence around the area to prevent my kids and dogs from getting onto the concrete to make sure that the product had sufficient time to cure. Just recently though the dogs have gotten through the fence and gotten onto the concrete deck. There are sections of product that are peeling up and I am very irritated about the amount of time that I spent do this right and now it is peeling off. I would not recommend this product to anyone. The concrete surface that I applied this to could only have been cleaner if it was new. The temperature in the area stayed within the recommended temperature range as well for around 3 weeks before it dropped below the min application temp for a couple days. There was no rain so the application criteria was all met. I do not know of anything that I could have done differently except for possibly sand blast the concrete which iI don't see as a good idea.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product is Awesome I am a 49 year old female and me and my husband purchased this product last year but I did 90 % ifof the work and I could not be happier. It dried really fast and sealed the cracks and splinters as the product promised. I put 2 to 3 coats on and also had enough left over to do a regular size picnic bench using the four gallon bucket and (2)-1 gallon cans of stain for the rails. I am enclosing pictures to show the results. The pictures include before and after pictures.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bubbling 1100 sq. ft. deck has bubbling and cracking everywhere. It is chipping at all the edges and because this product has pores it allows water to get to your wood and now our deck is destroyed!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible product! We applied this in September 2013. We followed instruction to a T. As soon as our area began to warm from our bad winter we be an to see bubbling through out the concrete patio. It is now June and we have huge patches missing, and raised bubbles in other areas! We spent over $350 for this product and our patio looks worse than it did before applying! I am now out of this money and mad going to have to spend days getting all of it up! Horrible, horrible product!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Buyer beware!!!! Applied following manufacture you can actually peel off pieces by hand 4months later. Save your hard earned money and look elsewhere for another product. Hope Rustoleum stands behind their product and resolves my problem.
