Smoothing surface

I used this product around my spa. What is the best method to smooth the surface for bare feet?

Does this product work on vertical surfaces?

I have a concrete porch with staircase that is in rough shape. Old loose, flaking paint plus small cracks and little chunks missing means paint won't do the job- would all show through. Restore looks like it will cover well but no mention made anywhere of vertical surfaces. How would the product be applied on stair risers and such, and would it stick?

How large a surface will 4 gallons cover?

Asked by: poncho
One 4 gallon bucket of Restore 10X will cover approximately 100 square feet, depending on the condition of your surface.

I used Restore last summer and very happy with the results. But I should I clean it this year?

Asked by: Anonymous
We do recommend performing regular maintenance on your surface to keep it in great condition. Basic maintenance consists of cleaning with household cleaners, brush and water when necessary. For difficult stains, a solution of diluted bleach commonly cleans the surface area. To remove dirt and grime build up use a light pressure washing to thoroughly clean the deck or concrete area. Be sure not to use a high pressure wash as this can tear or damage the product and/or your surface.

Customer Reviews

4-gal. Redwood Deck and Concrete 10X Resurfacer is rated 2.1 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product I would recommend watching the Restore videos on youtube prior to starting. Wear OLD clothes as the material tends to splater some. For sure you will need 2 coats. Our deck was in BAD condition and we were contimplating wood replacement. My deck is around 400 square feet and we used 4-1/2 buckets. About $430 in materials. Besure to grab a couple extra rollers, you will need them as they wear down as you move down the deck. All in all, my wife and I are VERY happy with it. Took about 9 hours to put down 2 coats. Second is a little easier going down. We will finish the rails in a couple of weeks with just the brush finish. You do need to fill the holes as you go. We had some deep ones. Watch it if you are in direct sun it tends to dry fairly quickly. Clean up is great, all we used was the hose and in 10 minutes we were done!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible product, please DO NOT USE! I applied this product following the directions exactly. I spent about three times as much time prepping than applying the product. It looked great for a few months, but then it started bubbling and cracking over about 75% of the deck. Even the parts that haven't bubbled up chip very easily. I have never been so upset about any product this much before, very angry and upset that Home Depot is still selling this. I really wanted it to work, which is why I put in so much prep time. You will regret this purchase.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't last one season Yes I watched the video. Yes I used two coats. Yes I made sure the weather was appropriate for the application. Yes I followed all the instructions as per the video. I applied the restore product in September and by January a quarter of it had peeled. Apparently this product is not made for the brutal winters of the northeast. Now it's March and nearly three quarters of the deck has peeled. NOT A GOOD PRODUCT. Do not waste your time or money!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Rustoleum Restore - Unfortunately not a long lasting product I researched the product - Rustoleum Restore - on a lot of websites before I decided to use it on my deck. There were a few poor ratings but the majority were quite favorable. I watched the product's application videos, cleaned the deck as instructed and spent almost 3 days applying the product as instructed. It looked beautiful. This was early Fall 2013. During one of our first freezes in early January 2014 I noted one vertical floor board on the deck had peeling/blistering of the product. I thought, ok I can handle that and reapply when the weather gets warm again. Now, February 2014, we have had freezing weather with several days of snow. Of the vertical floor boards I can see, that don't have snow on them (3 of them at this point), the product is blistering/peeling all along each of them. Now I think I am one of the raters that will have to give this product a 'poor' rating. Like previous raters of this product have stated - don't use it. I too spent a lot of money, time, and effort and now I will have to redo it with another product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Initially we were very impressed with the Restore #46545. We did watch the video and prepped all surfaces as required before applying this product. Its been almost a year since this was applied to our deck and railing. Now it is chipping off in pieces all over including the railings that don't get any wear and tare. This product is not cheap and we fill like now it was a waste of money. We are going to have to figure out how to remove and reapply with another product. Very disappointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Peels after less than a year It was a very expensive project for us. We followed all manufacturer's instructions, cleaned the painted surface as described in the manual, painted a front porch and deck with restore only to find out that it peeled off very easily. And now our deck requires repainting again it did not even last a year.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from never again Thought I was doing the right thing with this but not so happy now, at first it looked great was very happy but once the snow got on it now it is comming off all over the deck. Was hopping i would not have to ever stain again but now i only have two choices either do it again or cover it with out door carpet and I HATE out door carpet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am going back to the store this year and try to atleast get some of my money back.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!! This product is hard to get even coverage. After following the recommended surface prep procedure the paint either started chipping off after a week, or it turned to sand and left nothing behind but ugly tint.On the areas where the paint actually did stick, any dirt or mud that gets on it will only come off using a pressure washer. I now have two options. replace my entire deck or sand all the garbage off it and use a better product.
