it says 36 colors available how do I see what colors are available

Asked by: Anonymous
Hello Texas Nurse: First of all - Do not buy the color kit with all the colors for about $11 in Texas. You do not need it. Go to the store and ask them to show you the colors. Ask to see the color pack which has about 20 colors for you to select. You can also go on-line and look at the color kit- yes, somewhat difficult to judge the real color from the i-Net. Best to go and ask the paint person in the paint department to let you view the colors to allow you to select. Remember, based upon the surface the color may not be exactly what you select due to various surface conditions that affect color ( life should be so simple, huh?) I usually, for my customers get their primary choice. Then I get tones around that color, maybe three or so. Purchase at around $3 for a spl. Apply directly on the surface to allow an actual visualization for the customer and verification of their choice. You might consider this process. Yes, it is more involved. But, you are going to put some work into your project. Why not spend some time up-front to ensure you get what you want and what you like.

Does this product work on pressure treated decks?

Asked by: Anonymous
Hello; The pressure treated wood contains various metallic and organic components depending upon the age of the pressure treated wood. Wear gloves when working with PTW as the material is toxic to people depending on exposure - you do not want to burn it, e.g. The Deck Restore is an acrylic based resurfacer. Acrylic is known for its durability and bonding capability with a wide variety of surfaces, including wood. The pressure treatment also enhances the bonding strength due to the metallic-organic composition - The treatment chemical is generally copper, a fungicide, and a quaternary ammonium compound, biocide. Prior to 2004 treated lumber may have arsenic in it, as arsenates were used. Bottom line: I use it on pressure treated lumber and have had no problem.

Is River Rock Deck and Concrete resurfacer slippery? Can I use it to cover my lanai floor, which consists of river rock?

Asked by: Anonymous
Howdy EK: The product has been formulated not to be slippery and application upon final drying has shown good slip resistance. I would place the caveat that is you have fish oil or oil products that will contact the surface along with some oil type products and a bit of rain or water to mix the surface is likely to be slippery, If this unusual situation arises you can rinse it off as the surface is pretty durable. Usually, you can use it over the lanai. That being said you should be aware that time and treating with detergent, bleach, 'oxyclean', hot water can lead to various micro-reactions changing the surface somewhat - mostly you would see a black-gray areas. I would suggest that you treat a small area that is inconspicuous with TSP to ensure good bonding. Then apply an amount of the resurface r to confirm applicability. In the vat majority of cases it has worked fine. But it pays to validate.

4-gal. River Rock Deck and Concrete 10X Resurfacer is rated 1.7 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Product peels easily My husband applied the Deck Restore to our deck in September, which was in pretty bad shape (see before and after photos). The product went on pretty smoothly and we allowed two days before putting back the deck furniture. We have heavy cast iron chairs and one visit from my daughter’s teenage friends resulted in the paint peeling right off(see photos). In addition, paint is peeling by a section of the deck were rain falls directly from the roof. At first I was very pleased with the result and was glad that it would last for many years, but seen the damage from the rain and the chairs I am very unhappy with this product. I plan to touch up with regular deck stain. In addition not a good idea to put on top of the railing the product is rough to the touch. Definitely not as durable or resistant as advertised.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible product Awful adhesion and very brittle. A little focal pressure and the coat will shatter. Well see what it does when snow and ice are on. Acts like it will come right up with a snow shovel.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from get real Take a look at the installation of this product. It is very laborious, expensive, and cumbersome to say the least. Be prepared to use a putty knife ti remove the thick coating between your deck boards. Be prepared, once you apply to feather the coating with a paint brush. Otherwise you will have an ugly looking rough coat. Be prepared to have to use a sealant to fill cracks prior to coating. Be prepared to have to apply two coatings. If you need to redo, which you will in five years or less, you can only use the same product. This is a ridiculous product in this day and age when speed, ease of application, and minimum work are standard (SOPs). It is definitely not worth the tremendous effort. I would suggest an Olympic deck stain and filling any cracks with a paintable sealant that is low mod. - expands well -silicone acrylic should do the trick. That way you reduce the work by 75%, can use any coating the future, and get at least 5 years of good wear. Minimum prep also. The preparation for 'Restore" is simply ridiculously labor intensive. I started to give it a try and took the nonsense back for a refund.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Miserable Failure My husband and I spent last summer trying to refresh the deck in our backyard. We replaced some rotting wood, let everything weather outside for a few months, and then applied Restore at the end of August. We were very careful with prepwork. Sanded off any old finish (although deck was so old, we weren't sure it even HAD any finish), powerwashed a couple of times, and let dry thoroughly before applying Restore. The product went on fine and looked good. Winter came and went (we live in Colorado, so the winters can be intense) and it still looked good in the spring. However, the first time I walked on it, it started to crack and peel and flake off with every step I took. Next thing I know, the entire deck is basically a mess of cracked paint and paint dust. The paint is coming up in sheets, some of them up to 12 inches long, and we're having to spend hours cleaning up the loose paint and picking up the chips so they don't wind up in my flowerbeds. The decks looks worse than when we started and we're looking at hours of work just to contain the damage. We contacted the company and they issued a full refund for supplies, but that doesn't help clean up the mess in my backyard. Truthfully, they didn't argue much with the refund, which makes me think this is a pretty common problem. This product is absolutely a waste of time and money and should be taken off the market. It's awful that Home Depot continues to sell this. DO NOT USE.
