Customer Questions & Answers

How long does it take for deck paint "Restore" to dry?

Asked by: Anonymous
This sets up pretty fast but takes a few days to dry and up to a week or more to dry completely depending how thick you apply it. Check the weather. If it's going to rain, make sure you cover with plastic otherwise it will liquify and puddle - this won't ruin anything but you may have to soak up the water if this happens and reapply. The label says it can take up to 2 weeks to completely harden but that's depending on the weather and temperature. I applied mine in the late fall and it was starting to get really cool and raining a lot but I was still able to apply it successfully although it did take a week or more to completely dry because of the cold weather and rain on some days.

want to cover pool cooldeck and what are the prep requirements?

Asked by: buddy
Unfortunately Restore is not recommended for use on Kool Deck surfaces as there is a chemical in the Kool Deck which prevents proper adhesion.

4-gal. Sandstone Deck and Concrete 10X Resurfacer is rated 2.1 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Would not recommend, I gave this product the Benefit of the doubt after reading negative reviews,... Would not recommend, I gave this product the Benefit of the doubt after reading negative reviews, I used the roller that was recommended and less than 12 months the product 10x Advanced starting peeling,, its been few years now and the product is peeling multiple places. I have three or four unused 10x Restore that I don;t want and the store will not take the product back after it is mixed. I bought approx 5--6 4 gallons of this product to do my deck and it was a big mistake. I will say the restore stain product for the rails is actually working well. Now I am looking for a way to remove all the Restore 10X plus off the floor of my deck , hopefully with a power washer. This job has turned into much more of a job that it should have since I used Restore 10X plus. I would recommend to stick with just regular Deck Stain and avoid this 10x advanced.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not impressed We chose to try this instead of replacing an old deck. The employees were really pushing the competing product instead, but we wanted to keep our cost down - turns out we should have listened. It says on here that it covers 100 square feet with 2 coats, but on the product (in store) it says it covers 100-120 with 2 coats... it's really more like 60-80. We bought (2) 4-gallon containers - the first container only covered 140 sq. ft with one coat. We ended up having to go back and buy more... Our deck is 170 sq. ft. So 2 containers should have covered 200-240 square feet, with 2 coats...right? It also says that it will fill cracks up to 1/4 inch deep, which is true, but only if you apply the paint side-to-side over the crack - it will NOT seep in (too thick), and it doesn't cover by floating over the surface. We did better with the second coat, because we ignored the directions. This product has a 'special' roller you're supposed to use, and the instructions tell you to only roll it on in one direction. We realized that this was why it wasn't covering like it was supposed to, so we got out the regular paint rollers and acted like we were painting normally (back and forth) and it spread much better and still gave us the texture. This paint is VERY adhesive, which they list in the "pros" section here, but which I think made the job harder - obviously you want it to adhere, but it was really difficult to spread it around this way. So, my small deck looks better from a distance, but we're going to have to reapply something on it again next year. Value-wise, I would have been better off with one of the more expensive products (assuming that covered like it should) rather than 3 of these. Heck, I could have spent $200 on outdoor paint and taken my time and it would have had the same effect. Not recommended.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Camel Colored Cement Coating for Concrete Steps My concrete steps started to disintegrate last year and the stones were showing through so I patched them with DAP concrete patch but the grey color didn't match the beige color of the steps or short sidewalk. So I found this sandstone colored Deck Restore online and ordered from Home Depot. The 5 gallon drum arrived promptly. It has a lid that can be pried off like any large drum and also a nice screw off spout which is what I used. The compound is fluid and pours easily. It is truly a "cement paint" that goes on like very thick paint but dries like cement. I did NOT use a paint roller since that made a weird texture and was uneven - instead, I used a plastic putting knife - about 6 inches wide - to spread it on and smooth it. After you apply it, it takes awhile to dry - sets up in one day but remains soft for a few days - which allows you to smooth out any dripping that sometimes occurs on vertical surfaces. The camel color reminds us of the colors used at Mexican resorts we visit every spring on vacation, and it looks very nice. Our neighbors complimented us on the very cool look and color. Note that the photo shows only the FIRST COAT and as you can see it looks really nice in comparison to the grey color which you can see on the top landing. Recommend two applications - the second coat smoothed out the inconsistencies but I'm showing the first coat to show how it covers right away. The key is using a putty knife to apply it, not a paint roller, and smoothing out more after it is partially dried. I'm VERY pleased with this product which gave me exactly the solution I needed for my steps. We will find out this winter if it flakes off from shoveling although right now it appears to be very hard and impervious to shoveling and I think it will hold up very well. I have a hunch that this is a solution that a lot of people are probably looking for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great results Restore was used on a 6 year old deck. The product was applied with recommended textured roller. Preliminary results are great. The texture provides a non slip surface yet allows a bare footed usage. this was not possible prior to application. Product dried quickly and coverage was as stated. Long term results will telltale the value of this product as a substitute for more expensive replacements such as composite decking.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from HORRIBLE PRODUCT!! I used this on a new deck with NEW wood. The rails, stairs are now split, warped and wasted after putting 3 coats on. This after only 8 days. NOT cheap wood either, RWT , pressure treated, expensive. I followed the instructions to the T and now my deck is garbage. It needs to be scraped and replaced. That's $1000 wasted. It also LOOKS like you get 5 gallons, the small print states 4 gallons, when you open the container it's 4 inches below full. VERY DECEPTIVE packaging, HORRIBLE product, the color error is on me, I accept that, should have gone darker, but I know have a 4 gallon ($85) and a 1 gallon ($30) left over that cannot be used. HD won't take it back because it was mixed, not their issue to resolve. THIS PRODUCT IS EXPENSIVE, WORTHLESS, AND THE MANUFACTURER SAYS SO SORRY SO SAD, NOTHING WE CAN DO!! USE THOMPSON'S OR SOMETHING, ANYTHING ELSE BESIDES THIS STUFF. IT'S A WASTE OF MONEY, TIME, EFFORT!!
